Lathyrus vernus is a small shade-loving perennial and not the plant the author was discussing.
Japanese beetles can be a major nuisance on Rose of Sharon (and other hibiscus)
Columbines can be weedy and leaf miners can make a mess out of the leaves.
Gee, I didn't mean to be so negative. These are nice worthwhile plants. Thanks for the article.

I just yanked out my Rose of Sharon's!! Japanese beetles devour them when they flower, and I spend hours every spring yanking out the hundred of new starts. Doing the same with my trumpet vines. Stress free? Hardly! I do like all the other plants on the list though!
