hosta freeze

Charlotte, VT

It got down below 30 degrees last night. Apparently it tied the record low. About half of my hostas look dead today. Will the roots send up new leaves or are they dead forever?

Peoria, IL(Zone 5a)

They will send up new leaves.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Oh man, I'm sorry. I have been out covering all mine for the third straight night and am hoping night is the last night for it....it is such a huge pain.

Charlotte, VT

I never knew that they were sensitive to frost. I am greatly relieved to know that they'll come back!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Some are much more affected than others.

Ottawa, Canada

Helen - Sorry to hear that your hostas got hit by frost. I was at a few local nurseries yesterday. The hostas at one nursery were hit by frost and looked terrible. A second nursery, which sells their plants out of a protective structure had gorgeous hostas. I was tempted to buy a second 'June' until I remembered that I had seen a HVX infected hosta there about two years ago.

ViolaAnn - I hope your hostas did not get hit. I've been spared so far.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Irene - some of mine have been hit, but I'm not worried.
