I bought my house in October 2003. There were amaryllis, just like in the photo, in a pot in the back yard. I put a drip in it so they wouldn't die, but that's all the attention they have received in the past 8.5 years. Temperatures below 15 deg F haven't seemed to faze them. A cholla has come up from seed in the pot and is now taller than me. I guess I'm going to have to break down and start treating it like it deserves to be treated - like a houseplant and not just a weed. Thanks for letting me know what to do!

I've really been amazed by how tough amaryllises are -- yours is a case in point! Mine would probably rather be in your back yard in the winter than next to my basement window. :-)
