Oh how I love your stories about Aunt Bett and her knowledge of plants! (I wish that I could have had an Aunt Bett in my family when I was a child). It's clear that she was deliberately passing down her knowledge and skills to you. She needed a protege' to mentor to, in order to pass down the old mountain traditions.
You were very fortunate, even having to wear that awful bag showed how much she cared for your safety!
