This is a first time volunteer to my zone 10b garden and i would be very interested to know what it is. The leaves have a faintly pleasant fragrance that is somehow familiar but i simply cannot place it. The first photo is a digital macro and the second one is not. what say you experts?

I think it is Heliotropium indicum, Indian Heliotrope. That flower spike is pretty unique.

thank you meltonw and juhur 7...i took a look at the online info re H. indicum and i believe this is correct...the spike definitely un-rolled or un-furled as described.
