To my adoption agency, please send a pretty baby. But nothing in pink, that color is not in my color wheel and I refuse to raise an ugly, pink no good baby.

I actually only have 3 flowers in my yard that are pink, I will love anything else you send, especially if it is a perennial. < I PROMISE!>

I am open to anything-perennial, biennial or a tropical that can be held over inside or in the greenhouse. I am confident my baby will grow up to be the smartest and the prettiest/most handsome no matter what.

My newborn is in the ICU box right now waiting for the Stork to deliver it. He will pick it up tomorrow and it should be there on Friday or Saturday. It's a little on the small side being premature, but a fast grower. It should take off when Mama gets her hands on it but she should probably watch her fingers when she opens the box.
I am afraid the little bugger will soil it's diaper while it is en route. Sorry-not potty trained yet. My bad.

Oh Lord , the power of osmosis!!
I see Sistah Judy wanting to strangle br-- I mean babies!!
Ladies, be kind to the babies. They're BABIES not brats, please!!

Make sure your br--babies' nurseries are very safe, no chance of the wee ones feet standing on rocks, sticks or worse, burrs.

Lulu, no worries this year. I quit babysitting, even if you begged me to. I can't believe what I went through just because my little angel had to use the restroom :D

I'm glad I'm not getting new adoptees.
Sure don't want to be at the receiving end of Alana's wee one, nor impatiently wait on an immigrant from China.

Hey Sis Judy, sorry no Bailey's here. How about some lemonade?
Watched "Big Jake" last night, and it featured John Wayne. Thought of Jacob too.. strappy young man he's become.
Don't worry Sis, the only Indian was a good one, he was JW's asst. in looking for his kidnapped grandson, "Small Jake".

My beautiful baby girl arrived yesterday, but I was so busy with her I just didn't have time to post...She is happy and healthy and beautiful...

She arrived in her diaper, and it was full...but I took her picture before I got her all settled in. I did put her glasses on to protect her from the sun since she had been sleeping quietly in the dark bed...she is so precious and I am really excited about her.

Her sir name is Asarina wislizensis which stands for 'Red Dragon'...I know it doesn't sound very nice but
O, be some other name! What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet;

She is a spectacular, large, tubular & outward facing flowers are produced freely on this vigorous, fast growing vine with attractive, downy, heart-shaped leaves. 5’-8’ tall with many stems emerging from the base. Rich soil is best. Rare! Protect from serious frost or lift tubers in Fall.

We will need to spend some time together to come up with a given name... ;)

My Babies surrogate was poisondartfrog, who made sure my baby was well packed to say the least, not one little scratch anywhere! I will post again later when she is all tucked in.

The first pic is my new daughters arrival, and the second is how she will look in her teenage years... ;)

I am so glad she traveled well. Any bruising probably happened when I wrestled her into the box, not while she was in transit. I warned her not to drink too much water before the trip or she would soil that diaper. She is a stubborn creature but i have found that a cattle prod works wonders.
Good luck with her.

Fruity...mine is headed out of state, lol...I'm not sayin!!!! Nanner, nanner, nanner! LOL.. Thanks on the clem, it's one I planted for my daughter years ago, hate to say it but it's laying on the ground and blooming like crazy, was going to tie it back up, but all the bud had rearranged themselves so I will leave and tie up after it''s done blooming. I even took one stem last fall and pegged it to the ground, wanna see if I can make babies.. The cruddy four legged BRATS came thru my garden and devoured most of the tops of mine 20+ plants...drats!!!! Will have to see how many blooms I get. Either they will have scads of flowers as they were cut back or ???? Don't even want to think of the other, lol. I'll get blooms, yup. (Gosh, I sure hope sooo!). Have to get some pix this week as I have 2 shrub type that are in bloom now, rather unusual types. Also that clem above is planted at a downspout, hummmm, thinkin it likes it spot. I'm thinking I should plant those two flowers together in my border, the clem and the iris above, wow, almost the same color, I believe they call that color echoes... Here's another for that combo, oooh and a few more. Ok, I'll stop...Sure wish this crazy weather would behave...many combos that normally bloom together are a bit off kilter and will be a bit of a mish mash this spring. Shucks!!!!

With our crazy Spring weather, a few of my Hostas got a jump start unfurling new leaves with our early, unseasonably warm weather. Then bam, several were frost bitten. I just whacked off the soupy leaves and they've rebounded nicely, both in part shade to late afternoon sun. That's for now. When we really heat up in July and August, it'll be a different story for those in Sun, although a few of them are 'sun tolerant'.

Smellthis, I bet you did a fine job. Swaps and trades are like potato chips, you just can't have one...lol

Aghhhh what little precious ones you received...quads, wowzer!

I honestly worked with a guy whose wife had quads...they already had 1. The first Christmas they were all 2 years old, they nailed the Christmas tree to the floor, (back before flat screens) took all the knobs off the tv, dining room chairs were laid on their sides, and everything breakable was removed or had been broken already. Altho they were pretty well behaved 4 - 2 year olds are a mess...rofl. He did say he and his wife would take turns going to the basement every other evening for their sanity, course he said she always got more time in the basement than he did but she had them from the time he left for work until he came home, so he understood...rofl...
He said going anywhere was horrible because they couldn't get anything done in a timely manner, not because of the kids but everyone stopping them...

I got a Helianthus ‘Lemon Queen' Perennial Sunflower for my baby, and the others were sent to keep her company.

Physostegia virginiana/obedient plant, will go in the raised bed between the bougainvillea's. I think I will put them all out there, they will be pretty contrast plants I think?

Gypsophila repens, pink/ babys breath is a beautiful plant. I have never seen a pink one.

Saponaria ocymoides/Rock Soapwort is a beauty too! Thanks for making them all full sun plants.

These are my babies...

Thanks so much for the plants, I will do my best to be a good Momma!

I just got home a few minutes ago and found a scandalous spectacle that I will have to deal with sternly.
LuLu smellthis sent me two beautiful plants. Both of them are wild and shameless, and at such a young age! Consorting with strange bloomers, emptying the liquor cabinet, lying around in a drunken stupor; who knows how long they had been at it when I got here. They got the last of the 'shine! And I shudder to think what might have been going on in that box on the way here, especially with that Leopard Print tote they were using for a sleeping bag on the trip.
You would think the lovely and demure "Diascia Darla White" would know better! You can't trust an Osteospermum, especially one with an exotic name like "Tradewinds Cinnamon" but she obviously let him lead her down the Primrose Path.
I just don't know yet which one of them I will enter in the contest. I will have to think about that tonight after I calm down. In the meantime, I am putting them in separate cribs!

You're sending a nurse? Hope they don't play Dr. ...look what happened to the kids smellthis sent. They got in
that box all innocent and pure and by the time they got out of that box they were drunks and who knows what all else. I have them
confined right now until they pledge never to get into the 'shine again. I'm tired of coming home to an empty jug.

Hey, I know what you mean, but in my warped mind it also sounds like they could be running away from home. LOL! If that happens, let me know you trained them to do that.

My new Mama's babies have the colic. One or two more days of nursing them back to health is all I can stand!

Well I got mad at the weeds today and redid my whole big bed! That will teach them! Of course in the process I covered up all the annual seeds I had planted...but I actually like it better I think---Gonna stick with perenials in this bed. And do annuals in a different one. At least it don't look like such a mess. And once the flowers grow it will look really nice. Had to take 2 pictures to get it all in .

Did I neglect to say thank you Susan, I'm sorry if I did. Purple works great in any of my gardens except the Red, White and Blue one. Mostly they will stay in the pots I have them in. The 'Princess' is very pissed off at me because I have them in a very special place on the front porch and she is out in the lower 40 as I call the front yard. I told her to be nice and she refused, if she keeps complaining she won't get any presents this Christmas. She said she wanted to go back to Jaye's cause I clearly don't appreciate her title of Comtesse. She got the royal raspberry.

Must remember to make a note on my list to go shopping for new clothes for the babies.

For everyone asking about soilless orbs, they have a multitude of names (my daughter knows them as Orbees as toys) but here is a link to one place to get them on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magic-Crystal-soil-Water-Beads-Mud-Flower-Planting-Wedding-Adornment-10Bags-/290728999328?_trksid=p4340.m503&_trkparms=algo=RIC.CF&its=I&itu=UA&otn=5&pmod=270985326138&ps=63&clkid=4162071234805420

look in that category, they can be bought pretty cheap. One package is enough for one very big plant

If my baby is being sent to me in the next few days,PLEASE let me know when to expect... I'm staying indoors for the next few days as it's gotten horrible outside... Tonight the valley I live in has filled with smoke and visbility is down to 1/2 mile or so... and the other reason is the 100* temps... Kathy.

pix was taken 24 hours ago, that's Pike Peak next to the plume of smoke, which is about 60 miles away. This evening, I can't see more than a half mile...

in2art, I am the Mom that shipped your kiddos to you and I don't know where those brats must of gone...good grief! But I have some brothers and sisters that need out of this place cause I just have too many mouths to feed, problem is we are hitting temps of 105 and I am not sure they would make it right now. Probably won't be from the same clan but will get them to you.

The children that ran away were peperomia plants and a pink brugmansia as the nurse to watch over pep. She must of been a bad nurse! So sorry they didn't arrive. A couple of days after they were delivered I dmailed jordankittyjo because I was concerned when you didn't respond about receiving them.

Bad kiddos.

I frequently receive plants that have been shipped. In this heat, they are not faring so well. Most of what I get looks like it is dying before I see new growth after a week or 2. I have plants that look dead one day and have new, green leaves coming out of the same bud unions the dead leaves came from. Except the dapple willows, those just turn brown then send up new growth from the base.

Almost everything I have gotten in this weather has done this. If I was less sure of myself I would think all my plants were dying, but I am stubborn lol

Naughty brats! too bad for me, I love peperomia (might be a house plant here, but that's not a bad thing) and I positively adore pink Brugs and don't own any.

I understand about not shipping in the heat and I'm willing to wait.

Since it was not your fault, I'm grateful that you are willing to send others and am willing to contribute to postage.

I have my peperomia in an upside down pot.

But I will have other stuff hopefully you will like, just need a break in the weather here. Over 106 today and 104 the next 3 days.

Maybe they will let me be your surrogate? until the weather breaks ;)

Attached my upside down pot, I do really like it.

When you plant it you wait about a week or two before hanging and I guess the roots keep it from falling out, kind of like the tomato hanging thing. I got the pot as a Christmas present from a friend several years ago. I really like it also, took me awhile to find what I wanted growing out the bottom of it tho cause I didn't want a plant that would try to curl up toward the pot.

pix is of one of those species pendant types. No spots tho; Lilium pumilum at 18". Kathy

Kathy, the Tiger Lily was gifted a couple of years ago from my gardening friend here. Mature height has reached about 5', and yes, the pic is a true representation of its downward facing blooms with bulbils forming at the leaf axes. Some of them show in my pic.

Patti, I'll check to see if any bulbils are left. It's getting late in the Season but there still may be a few small ones I missed.

This time I am going to pin a note on that brat that if it is lost to please return to you, maybe write on it's leaf like your Mom use to write on our clothes... ;)

I always just sort of know when the kid is up to something and I need to check in...like maybe things have been too quiet for too long.

I am totally looking forward to being a new mama; and hopefully my brat won't run away from home! I would prepare a bed for it, but I have to see if it would like a shady spot or a sunny one first!

I need to take a pic of my brat, it has been so hot I think everything is just in suspended animation, too hot to grow even the things being watered. Funny I feel like we have already been thru August so it is hard for me to think this is the beginning of August not Sept.

I'll get a pic of mine later, after the rain or should I say shower, maybe I should say after the rain drop is done. Anyway they are both just hanging in there not doing anything. It's been way to hot. Even the tomatoes have stopped producing until this heat wave is over. Supposed to be in the upper 90s this week, I do love the cold front that is coming in to bring the temps down out of the 100s. This has been the hottest july on record for us. We've had a trace of rain since mid June here. Thank the Lord I pay a flat rate for water and it's well water to boot.

Robyn same here we had maybe 6 drops of ?rain? yesterday, but today is in the 80's and started out cooler and heavens is it wonderful! I seem to always need something to worry about but our spring was about 30 days early and every month has been about 30 days off, I am hoping August isn't Sept and so on. About the 1st of Oct up here in Mo. I have to start worrying about frost which I know is hard to think about since we have been over 100 forever now. It is like someone switch a switch because yesterday DH asked me if the tomatoes were done and I told him no, and now today I have picked several, amazing what normal temps will do.

Well I have a 2nd BRat to send but my 80 degree weather has skyrocketed back to over 100 everyday. One day it was decent. We haven't had rain since June. The weather guessers are saying 50 percent chance tomorrow. Temps oin The 80' s Friday. Has anyone mailed on a Friday? I think if I could get the package out of the Midwest it might be ok.

I have mailed on a Friday, and they arrive OK. Just wrap them in wet paper, and stick them in a baggie, or plastic wrap! I have also found that lots of packing peanuts helps insulate the plants!

My brats were received early on from Jax. Boston Nanny isn't looking too pert despite being in the shade and having a regular drink of water, but my babe Rosie is OK. WWK received her Stokesia twins from me near the end of July. How are they doing for you, Kathy?

happ, when I've mailed a package on Saturday to my SIL who lives in the greater DFW area, she's always rec'd it the following Monday. That being said, it's your call to mail on a week-end or wait for a week-day since we all know how fickle USPS can be 0:)

Sorry to say, Patti, there weren't any bulbils left except two that were swiveled up. Remind me next year and I'll save some for you.

My Mailman friend tells me Saturday is the best day to mail if the package is going out of state. It moves continuously on Sunday and is often delivered on Monday or Tuesday without delays. I've tried it and Saturday is now my preferred mail date. He says what you want to avoid is mailing when there is a chance it won't make it to it's destination on Saturday. If it is too late to deliver on Saturday it does just sit there until Monday.
I may have waited a bit late to get a photo of Clark in his prime, but he is still handsome.
My baby is all grown up.

WOW, can't believe there have been no posts here since August 8th!!!!!

Well, I received my brat from jordankittyjo. It is one I am not familiar with so I had to look it up! It sounds like something I will REALLY enjoy! I appreciate it so much!!!! Now to think of a name for her. Maybe I'll just call her Rose. She arrived in great shape with a nice card. I can't wait to put her in a pot and watch her grow. Look out girls, she's going to be a charmer!!!!

Since she was so unfamiliar to me, I took a picture of the tag to tell you what she is. lol

Great choice joradankittyjo!

Edited to tell you what she is. From Plant files: Desert Rose Adenium obesum

Fruity...sorry have been MIA...all my newly aquired goodies (including my babies), are sitting in pots about the driveway waiting for things to cool so I can begin planting...Gosh...I sure hope it's soon. More 90* all week, we just broke the record today for the most 90*s in one season and lack of moisture... Would rather keep things alive in pots for now, but hoping to begin planting soon...Probably after I get back from vacation...Leaving Sunday and will be back on Thursday... Maybe I should take the hot weather with me and just leave it there!!!!!!! Gosh , I sure hope next summer gets back to normal!!!!!! Seems like most of my summer has been spent hiding from the heat...yuck! And thankyou again for my babies...have always wanted them but never got around to getting any (Stokesia). Kathy

Red Volunteer Daylily will be named "Clara Barton" in honor of the lady who first led the American Red Cross - since it is a red volunteer :)
