There's always room for more folks to join us. If you're just stumbling upon our June thread or have lurked in the past and would like to join the fun, here's how our group works. During your Birth Month, you will receive a Birthday Card from each of the other participants. And in turn, you are to mail a Birthday Card to each participant during their Birth Month. Who doesn't enjoy receiving a thoughtful Card instead of junk mail and bills? A Card and a 1st Class Stamp, it's as simple as that. Purchased and handcrafted Cards are both welcome.

Interesting information about the month of June courtesy of Wikipedia...

June (Listeni/dʒuːn/ joon) is the sixth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and one of the four months with a length of 30 days. Ovid provides two etymologies for June's name in his poem concerning the months entitled the Fasti. The first is that the month is named after the Roman goddess Juno, wife of Jupiter and equivalent to the Greek goddess Hera, the second is that the name comes from the Latin word iuniores, meaning "younger ones," as opposed to maiores ("elders") for which the preceding month May may be named (Fasti VI.188). See: Months in various calendars also called the season of the unicorn.

In both common and leap years, no other month begins on the same day of the week as June. June ends on the same day of the week as March every year.

June is the month with the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest daylight hours of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.

June in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to December in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa.

In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological summer is 1 June. In the Southern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological winter is 1 June.

At the start of June, the sun rises in the constellation of Taurus; at the end of June, the sun rises in the constellation of Gemini. However, due to the precession of the equinoxes, June begins with the sun in the astrological sign of Gemini, and ends with the sun in the astrological sign of Cancer.

June is known for the large number of marriages that occur over the course of the month. According to one etymology, June is named after Juno (Hera). Juno was the goddess of marriage and a married couple's household, so some consider it good luck to be married in this month.[1]

In Iceland, folklore says that if you bathe naked in the morning dew on the morning of June 24, you are supposed to keep aging at bay for longer.

I guess we could all watch for dew here on the 24th and take a splash in it, or at least possibly wet our feet.

Thanks for bringing that up Frootz. No, I could not have eaten fish for a month. We were both craving meat by the time we got back.

Faye if you find that magic dew, by all means call. I need it worse everyday. We are supposed to go to a pool party tomorrow afternoon. Bob asked if I was going swimming. I looked and him with one of "those looks". No way am I getting into a bathing suit in public. He says , " you did at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland.". Yeah I did, but then no one there knew me and in Europe it's a whole different mindset. Never saw a fake boob in the whole bunch. Not one. :0)

We had a Siamese cat when I was in junior high. Had to be careful if he was in a playful mood when he was under the covers, though. If you moved, he'd pounce on whatever moved... Pretty funny if you had covers between him and your toes, but not so fun if he was under the covers with your toes! :) Sure loved him a lot!

What a whirlwind day that started with the groomer's call around 8 asking if I could be there earlier than the appointment time. Now you know that just made my day that early with an hour's drive down there. We made it though. Mickey and I stopped at Lowe's, wasn't about to leave him in the hot car, and what should have taken 5 minutes to pick up light bulbs turned into 30 with people stopping to pet him. Course I strolled through the garden center but didn't grab one single plant.

HI all ... LK, sounds like you had a good time for your b'day!

I want to thank ALL who sent me birthday cards in May. I don't remember if I thanked each one individually, and for that I apologize. I loved each and every one of them.

My philosphy is "better late than never", so I have sent out b'day cards way past their b'day. But hey, that is better than not at all, right? ^_^ What's better than getting a late birthday card after all the others have come in. lol

Welcome Kobie. You will love it here. Great group of gals! I use to work a D&A treatment center for juveniles. Recently I worked at a youth treatment center for criminal juveniles. (youth prison?) We had everything from murderers, rapist, etc. down to the smaller things youth were convicted of. Very interesting field of work.

Sorry to hear that Char and Charlie are not going to be with this thread anymore. I'll miss the nuzzles.

Off to conjur up some more mischief, or better yet, go plant some flowers!

Hi, all.
Lori, welcome! Great to have you join us!
Got Kobi's card ready to go... Better get one ready for Lori, too! Glad I stopped by :) I'll let you both know when the cards are in the mail.
Oh, no... I missed Strawberry Parfait Day and Pralines Day! Oh, and hey, where'd my doughnuts go? Those would have been such tasty treats :) LOL
Oh, and speaking of basketball, if you ever want to read about a bit of history, I read a book about basketball in its early years. In case you're interested, the book is "Full-Court Quest: The Girls from Fort Shaw Indian School, basketball Champions of the World" by Linda S. Peavy and Ursula Smith.
Went on an outing last Thursday. Got to wear waders for the first time. Visited one of the rivers, and we waded around a bit, looking at the insects and critters there. They explained that you can tell how clean the water is based on what insects and critters are in it. While some insects/critters can tolerate various degrees of polution, others cannot tolerate any. It was an odd sensation walking around in the river wearing waders. I realized that I'm really used to knowing I'm in the water because my feet are wet. But my feet didn't get wet with the waders on... need some of those for rain storms! :) LOL Other than feeling the coolness of the water through the waders, I couldn't tell I had stepped into the water. Of course, once we started walking around in the river more, I could also feel the current. But it remained fascinating to me that I still wasn't getting wet!
Didn't take my guide dog on the outing. Had a friend take care of him for me while I was gone. I wanted to be able to participate in the outing activities without having to worry about what he was getting into while I was otherwise occupied :) He had fun, though, too. So, all in all, Thursday was a fun day!
Well, better be going for now. Have a great Tuesday, everyone!

Oh Fruity, chocolate pudding is so easy to make from scratch, you could do it with no problem! But any chocolate pudding is ok, even I will succumb to the little four packs every now and again so that I have an easy quick snack.

Geez, I am still working on last Christmas. I keep finding things and decorations tucked away, don't know why I do that but it is always interesting. I had bought a couple things on clearance because I thought there would be a Christmas in July swap, now I am staring a snowmen and a Santa Claus while the temps are 103 so far today. Sigh.

Now I can't find my cards again, sorry Lori and Kobi, this too shall pass. I know they are here somewhere on my desk. You know, the one with everything on it.

I will make the July thread while I am on here today. I go for days without getting on. I spend all my days watering. We have been in triple digets for several days now and more forecasted for the next 7 days. I have a feeling this is going to be another summer like last year. UGH! Our normal 100's is usually 15 days, and we are going to hit that by the first week of July! No rain. Just d*mn hot! Up to 106* is the hottest forecasted so far. I dread my water bill this month and the months to come.

Crit I can relate to the watering ordeal. I have a little over an acre and it is nearly impossible to keep it all water, much to expensive. I just water around the house and pray that someone or something don't start a fire. By the way, I hope that any one that lives in Colorado is safe. Yall are in my prayers.
I wonder how many places have hit over 100 this week?
try to stay cool everyone.

Patti, I'm out of here for the week-end. Where's the link to July?

June 29, 1915 -- Juicy Fruit chewing gum was trademark registered.
Today is National Almond Buttercrunch Day

June 30, 1896 -- William Hadaway was issued a patent for the electric stove.
Tomorrow is National Ice Cream Soda Day. Seems very appropriate since we'll be having hand-churned ice cream at our Round-Up.

We're going to miss those of you who couldn't make it.

Really? National Almond Buttercrunch Day.

Who makes this stuff up?! Fruity I think you're pulling our leg(s).

I am giving serious thought to bringing my neighbor's goat to my backyard. Don't tell Court. But since I go over there everyday anyway... He would of course eat everything, so I would have to fence the things I'd rather he not eat. Since everything's grown from seed and mostly natives - it's not like I'll be out a lot of money. He will love my rudbeckias, and besides - I won't have to work so hard to keep everything watered. :D

Thank you everyone for the birthday cards!! I'm amazed at how talented everyone is :)

It's been a tough few weeks and I really appreciated it!! I work in drug rehab and we had a patient die. I'm used to patients dying because of drugs but this was just a senseless act of violence to a very sweet young man. I'm been having a hard time dealing with it all.

Anyway the cards made me definitely smile :)

Thanks,
Kobi
