Windy 15 to 25 mph, 53 degrees , cold it is, cloudy.
I was reading the DG article about Japaneese beetles for June and July. If it would stay like this I would never see them,I wouldn't see any summer either!.I don't usually see any until the temperatures stay high 80's for a few weeks. From the forecast maybe it will be July or August before I see any of '"THEM"
A lot like the mind playing ""GOOD THING BAD THING" it is.
Brisk trade winds continue. A few more showers today and tomorrow but still around 80f and not too humid. Tomorrow is the weekend already, Yeah
Having a garage sale stall at the local farmers market tomorrow to try and sell some "stuff". Expect to bring most of it home again.
Anyone want to buy 1970's Aloha Shirts for $15 - Like new. Might take some bromeliad pups along for $1 a piece.
Winter has returned. Rained all night and continued to mid afternoon. Now sunny. Windy, misty moderate rain was going almost horizontal at the Farmers Market this morning. Still a good turn out but barely got above 68f. Everyone in rain jackets. Small amount of wind damage on Maui yesterday.
Waded through water in the duck pen to pick up eggs.
Next 6 hours
Partly cloudy with temperatures falling into the mid 60s. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph.
Today's High was 82░F at 2:05pm when conditions were Partly Cloudy.
Tonight: Scattered T-Storms
Busy busy here.
I have been getting spinach in the freezer. Pulled all the radish and now we're eating peas. I hilled the potatoes today after I watered them. I planted 30 and only two haven't come up yet.
The rainwater didn't go very far so we've been watering, but can now select what really needs it instead of everything.
I've been walking the flower beds over and over till I've gottten all the obvious weeds. The larkspur went nuts and I love every plant!
Yesterday the town had the city wide yard sale. I walked over to the neighbor's because her kids are as skinny as my oldest grandkid. I found pants and shorts for him. Yayyy! Being the oldest, he has no hand me downs.
Sally, those peas look delicious! Mine are only booming right now, far behind! The garden looks so tidy ,, no wonder you were so busy!
I could go inside the veggie garden and weed yesterday, after so much rain we've had.
It's sunny and hot, 85F.
Was sunny today, felt hot, "the tv.people" said 78 was the high, but it felt much hotter like about 86. Got windy and cloudy a few times towards this evening like it was going to rain, only never happened.60's forecast for tonight.
High Pressure to the North East bringing brisk trade winds. Strange upper level lower rotating just east of us and moving our way. Wish it would make its mind up to come our way and then move off to the west. Otherwise just disappear. The upper low just brings more frequent and heavier trade showers. Last week Thursday the weather folks thought it would move over us by Sunday and now they say progress has slowed and maybe it will be here tomorrow. During all this wait and see time we keep getting frequent showers. What happened to summer.
Fresh cut Gladiolus in a vase on the dining table. I seem to have found the right spot. Next year I give them more TLC and get them to grow straighter. This first year I'm happy to get good blooms. Looks like all 56 bulbs will bloom.
Nice day today, wind has dropped, just about 80f with some sun. Maybe thunderstorms this afternoon on the mountain slopes as upper low passes over and moves away tomorrow. Ground is still very wet after over nite showers. Makes gardening difficult.
Kwanjin - I promise not to complain about our heat. We never get over 90f. I cannot imagine 99+. Is a dry heat?
Volcano is playing up again. 3.6 and 3.0 quakes this morning (we did not feel them) plus yesterday there were over 30 small quakes too small to be felt but 11 were shallow and focused near a camp ground on a fault line in the National Park. So this morning rangers went out looking for new cracks in the earth but nothing so far.
Kwanjn; I remember being taught how difficult that can be to do,good pic, How about I "rip ya off" for a poster, while I keep that book marked.Solar photos are "cool man' (that should be a "hot one").
Warm and sunny 80 or so, mostly light breezes 2 or 3 mph, no rain, none forecast.
While I was walking the rows in the garden day before yesterday and a bird let go above me and "it" splattered on my forearm. That made me think to your bird photos just now,I thought you might like a laugh about that. I'm to light of mind somtimes(lol)
Its one of those gorgeous Hawaiian Mornings you dream about. Sunny, white puffy clouds against a dark blue sky and a gentle trade breeze. Still wet under foot, but hey, I can live with that. Supposed to be like this all through the weekend. But warmer.
It was 88 degrees here an hour ago and still climbing, clouds are cooling that as to heat index now though, well... .dry ,hot, more of the same expected.Only thing is 50's low60's at night are sometimes really nice.
I saw a forecast about that same hour ago that said 77 with a high of 80,I'm not gonna tell ya all what my first "thought wit" was when I saw that and ,finish that with NO WAY!!!!!
My computer crashed last night, back together now. 94 DEGREES AT 5.45PM no wind calm in the 80's now.Getting really humid 89 forecast for tomorrow, IT will get mid 90's if it stays as usual,no rain. Really hot to index.
part 2 musical... fungus...fungus...fungus...tra,la,la,...la-----la,la...la.
Up to 92 today/low 74░ should be sunny, slight chance of thunderstorm. We were on vaca in south Florida all last week, it rained four inches here at our house during the week. Luckily we just had cloudy weather and no rain there.
Some cloudy pictures of Sanibel Captiva Island and Ft. Myers Beach where we were vacationing for our 30th anniversary. The clouds kept the temperatures in the mid to upper 80's and lots of good breezes...we were delighted...since it poured all day everyday back home here. Garden looks great!
light misty rain in the morning and then partly cloudy and humid hot in the afternoon. We are losing our tradewinds and looking forward to some muggy weather over the next few days. Ground is still very wet so plants will be OK for a while but its tough on the pots in the greenhouses.
Light or no wind, plenty of sunshine and slightly humid. Really not much weather.
Drove around the island yesterday to visit Costco. Found low cloud blowing through the trees with mist in Waimea at about 3000 ft level and light showers in the winding road through the forest on the way back down the other side of the island. Round trip is 220 miles. As usual though, where Costco is in Kona it was HOT and more like Waikiki with tourists and a cruise boat in the harbor. I don't like Kona.
lots of gusty winds today off and on ,quiet now with the slightest breeze ,about 85 degrees now ,saw a couple running around this afternoon that said 91 and 88 degrees.hot, sunny, dry ,no rain, nice evenings and days in the shade.day 14 without rain.
89 DEGREES at 5 pm sunny hot and clear , community broadcasts 6mph winds, about the same as a while. no rain, not any of the plants seem bothered ,all looking rather well for as bright and sunny with 50's nightime. 70 degrees forecast for tonight.
microb; That sounds like a pretty drive!! Scenery must be incredible!! The micro climate sounds interesting also, tropical paradise climates must be facinating. I have never been to any tropical climates, maybe someday(sigh)
We get a few plants that give us a idea of what that might be like, only the Imagination tells us there is much more.
Beautiful day. Tradewinds have returned and that humidity has disappeared.
Juhur7 - yes we have to pinch ourselves and realize how lucky we are. On the other hand the grass is green on both sides of the fence. You can grown things we cannot and the mainland has scenery we admire. I did take some road shots on Wednesday, not the best but might give you a bit of an impression of some of the scenery.
Th first one reminds me of the eastern Mountain region on the mainland. I haven't seen anything in my experience like the second. Brings to mind FUN!!!
Someplace between 94 and 99 degrees currently, sunny, dry,2to3 mph wind, same as none in this heat, WOW!!!
Day 16 without rain.Still very humid though. You could just about wade through the dew this morning.
Hot, mostly sunny, today ,missed the temperature reading .The forecast was 87degrees and I am sure it made that and then some, still humid only not as has been recently. no rain, day 17. Boooooooooooooo...
9O DEGREES!!!! WINDS 10 TO 20, EASY TO GET SUNBURNED, dry Still no rain day 18. sunny,
pepper23: looks villa, forbidden city, or monastary No I think I like "peppers porch palace"
kwanjin: When that get to say maybe,14 days of 100 degree days, maybe we will see your area on the news. I lived near Salt lake City for a year, way up on the side of a mountain. Loved the sunsets, the views were awsome. and so is that photo of "yorn" "nice pic man, "really."
Windy today - 15-30mph with some areas forecast to get 50mph. Where we are its probably 15-25mph but that is much breezier than we are used to. Dry and partly sunny with the wind. Rain forecast for tonight and tomorrow.
Your mainland temps make me uncomfortable. I just cannot imagine living somewhere with high 90s and 100+.
Thats a great sunset Kwanjin
Nice Lily, Pepper
I purchased an unusual Lily Saturday from Farmers Market. Have not downloaded the photo yet by will share. Probably put it on DG Forum it have it ID'd.
90+ today no wind early. Light breeze later.
We were lucky, working on a remodel project. House has central air.
Crops are growing like crazy. Picked 21 pints of strawberries tonight. We get that 3 times a week.
We put bird netting over them, finished today. Sure did help. Birds are baffled!
IT wind around 8to10sw low 90s haven't checked my garden thermometer in a day or two, feels like 100, index is getting near. humid air . still dry though. no rain; day 19 and a half
kwanjin; far eastside of Saelt lake city about 35 minutes from dowtown. Everything was bigger and farther out west..
microb; those are some nice ""orchid lilly""? We have very few to compare, and it is even more rare for the flowers to look that good.
pepper23; Cannot remember any lillies ever blooming that way at all. Most of mine did not bloom this year. Couple of stargazers in the garden that might still
The cats will complain at you to bring them back if you move them; you know cats,We don't care if we like them or not ...those are ours now!!
SUNNY!!! Nice breezes today, miserably hot, about 94 the high, still humid, Day 20 no rain, getting kinda dry now. Really too hot to do much in the garden.Planted five oat grass plants though, wore me down! Too Too HOT!!!
kwanjin; Where it said hill and then it was a full mile almost straight down to Salt Lake,Yeah, I know a few jokes about that too..
pepper23; Your lillies look nice too, didn't want to leave you out, just kinda got by me a minute or two.We don't get all that many tropical flower type looking blooms,it was nice of you to share them with us.Well are the cats getting shade on the porch deck,or are they still gonna get even with you. (Are they eyeing you like something is in mind).Cats always have something going,it just is that nobody has an easy time guessing what that maybe.
Rained most of the night, rained all day and "they" say it will rain tonight and tomorrow as well. Low foggy cloud at our elevation. Kind of a soaking misty rain, not a heavy downpour. Its just a combination of wet tradewinds, and our mountain slopes.
93 DEGREES AT 5;15 in the garden ,one melon vine looks really good everything else is noticeably stressed. It has been sunny and hot all day ,cloudy now and it looks like it is getting ready to storm.still 21 days without rain.Winds are at storm speed 25 and gusting higher. humidity not as uncomfortable as past several days.
I hope it rains this time; I'm a praying it does. Goodness it's dry!!
pepper 23 Is that a milkshake coneflower in the lower left?I got one this morning and was wondering.
Weather here is about the same 80's hot with nice mornings and evenings, every so often a breeze that makes it as nice and comfy as could be. Still dry even after yesterday's rain. humid mornings. Breeze is about non existent
Wet, muggy, not so hot though, we've not been over 88 degrees in nine days now, last weekend was so nice, low humidity, but then this tropical wave has been here for a few days now. Almost two inches of rain yesterday, more expected today, tomorrow and the next day. Should all clear out by Wednesday.
The frogs are making lots of joyous croaking.
This was the dawn a few mornings ago when a storm was coming in, I woke up and the whole house was pink, so grabbed my camera and ran out and got a shot before it was gone. I don't see colors like this very often.
Everybody stay cool, drink lots of water...can't believe how hot the country has been already.
Started out in the low 70s this morning and it took it's sweet time inching into the 90s. We had some rain come in this afternoon and it brought the humidity and heat with it. Can't hardly breathe outside it's so muggy.
If it was big enough to split I would give you some to pair with your yarrow. That would be a neat combo. Yarrow, daylily and coreoptis. I just got it as a gift from someone last year. I actually forgot about it til it put on the bud. lol
Raining...still. Windy and a few small tornadoes have done some damage around the state but not here. Debby is a mild storm, but really dumping the rain down on some here. She seems to be lingering instead of moving on out. Rain gauge shows 4 inches since yesterday morning. West coast over ten inches.
Yesterday was not too bad. Sun came out and for a while life was good. A few light showers and a nice breeze. Almost changed back into shorts from jeans.
Today started off not too bad but by midday, just as I was leaving work in Hilo a large grey bank of cloud moved in from the ocean and by the time I got to run errands around Hilo it was blowing with a heavy misty rain. Now have grey skies and rain for the rest of the day. Cars driving around with headlights and the higher up the mountain we get the lower the cloud gets. Not complaining though. The forest is glowing with green moss and rain drop covered ferns of all sizes.
Weather here is brutal, seems that way everywhere. Nice for a few minutes morning and evening though.
80 forecast for tomorrow then near 100 the remainder of the week.(BLAHHH)!! Like looking forward to misery!(YICK)
You all stay weather wise.
Only up to 79 yesterday, not as much rain but more wind. Lots of power outages, we can hear generators so just a few streets over no power. Guess we lucked out so far. Today up to 78░, windy and some rain. Debby is supposed to cut across the state just north of us...but she seems to be enjoying just hanging out on the west coast. We are on the east coast, inland about 28 miles.
However we greatly appreciate the six inches of rain she brought us. :)
We've been on the run, had the kids, all four, a lot, and I've been out to DD'd a lot. Then there were birthdays, anniversaries and a late graduation party.
We are still watering. The last bit of rain we got didn't last long... again! I have one more nice day today to move more plants. I have some I potted for myself to be set back when I make room and more for the free pile. I brought everything and the sign back over so the property owners can mow. I hope they do pretty soon!
My garden is really looking good. The potatoes now have flowers, and the tomatoes and peppers have fruit set on. My Dad dug a few onions already. I got one last picking off the spinach and pulled it up. I foundas bag of very loooong sprouted potatoes in a cupboard. I planted them and a couple actually put up leaves, LOL! One was already growing tiny potatoes. All shriveled, but I keep them waterd so we'll see. These will be Russets. I'm eating beets and their greens and am watching the Brussels sprouts get bigger, LOL! Oh, and the peas put on a second crop, but I let the Grandsons pick and eat them.
We live trapped and relocated three large raccoons over the last couple of weeks. Luckily we have nice creeks in three directions so they should be able to relocate with no problem. A person really needs to take them 12 - 15 miles away so they don't return. I think once trapped tho they will not come back around.
It's been hot a few times, but mostly beautiful out. I'm moving plants and watering every day. Today is our last good day and then it's the 90's.
We do hoe a lot!
Glad your sister is better
Laughing. I know I have the panarama but have never tried it yet. Love your results!
Awesome lily! How beautiful and exotic!
Lovely flowers and I adore! Penny Lane! She's exquisit!
Mainly clear. Warm. Low 76F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph.
It was hot today! I finally dug all the wilted, drying up and dried up astilbes, and transplanted them to the shade. They got a lot of water and I expect to see perky leaves tomorrow. This should have been done a lot earlier. I found one more I need to get.
Sunday we had a family reunion for DH's side. We always take my Dad :o)
We had the boys the night before, kept them after the reunion and took them home Monday. I stayed all day so DD could get the swimming pool set up without too many boys around to ''help.''
June is almost over. Boo hoo hoo. It's my favorite month.
rained on and off all day yesterday, grey and breezy
Rained most of the night, had heavy shower when waking up at 5.30am.
Today was passing frequent showers heavy at times, still breezy with just occasional glimpses of blue sky. Forecast is for the same frequent shower pattern to last through Friday. That means that down in Hilo at sea level its partly cloudy with showers and as we progress up to our 2200ft level we become mostly low clouds and frequent showers all day. Garden is squelching under foot with visible puddles in low spots. Should not be this way in June.
Mid 60s at night and high 70s during the day. I think I prefer this to 100+ degrees.
26 inches of rain in Florida , 110degrees in Kansas, Dry mostly every else, even with some rain in the southwest.Mother certainly is having a word a two.
billyporter; There was a raccoon standing on the other side of the screen door only inches from me when you were talking about yours. You have to be careful of them here as they are very friendly.
As for me I'm playing beat heat.up early, to sleep early.Too, too, hot! under that daytime sun for me.
Forecast for 102 degrees today, was near 90 yesterday. not much wind maybe a 3mph off and on .Lower humidity is making the dry effect increase.Still only 3/100 dreths for June as far as rain here.
pepper23; I have the parent plants of your Daylilly, Trying to make some seeds.Takes a while with those it does.
.sunkissed; That was a pretty sky pic I hadn't seen any in a while(live view I mean) A relative was talking about drying her car after retrieving it down your way.Had an aunt and uncle that lived at Fort Meyers beach years ago. All the houses up on poles(self explanatory lately)
Always good to see another old timer :o)
I'd love to have your rain!
That made me smile! Since raccoons are the biggest carriers of rabies, I never want to make a pet out of them. To me wildlife needs to stay wild. That's why we have dogs and cats :o)
Oh, that reminds me. I have seed pods on tulips and a couple other flowers opening, and I want ot catch the seed before it drops. I will be going out in the heat after all, LOL! I knew I would. I can't stay inside all day as long as the sun shines.
We ran to town this morning and got home early. It's 103░ on the screened in porch, but only 95░ outside right now. I watered a few things and came in. I needed to catch up on recording the plants I've moved around so I don't forget to water them. Now I have to water one I forgot!
Very dry and very hot. Well over 100 degrees for a high and still in the 90s now. Our grass is still partly green but crunchy.
I was talking to a friend earlier and I told him that if this keeps up Colorado won't be the only ones fighting fires. We will too. We are in a moderate drought if I caught the right part of the news. Dry enough that my coneflowers are drooping.
106 DEGREES yep, that is a real temp. not an index, over 100 forecast for today. Saying winds were 17 with 25 mph gusts or more but I never saw or felt any here. Thought I lived in the cold north? Humid, uncomfortable.
Thunderstorms likely this evening. Then the chance of scattered thunderstorms overnight. A few storms may be severe. Low near 70F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 80%.
I was suprised to see I had it when I downloaded pictures :o)
If you have mosquitos you will have all kinds of dragonflies.
My coneflowers seem to droop every year, but this is the driest year we've had for a few years.
But such a positive picture of the sky!
I'm glad you are cooled down and getting rain. I hope we see some tonight. So far it all shifted north, but we had a really nice 3/10'' this morning. I thanked God because I prayed for rain.
DD called yesterday in the heat of the day. She had a chance to go on a semi run with her DH. Could we take the kids overnight? All of them? So, the twins had their first over-nighter and did very well. I must say two small babies take up as much room as the two older boys when they were two and four! They will be spending another night in a week or so. I think DD got over any ''fear'' that they would wake up and miss her, LOL!
Yesterday that 100 was Really 104 degrees, there is lightning and thunder right now as it brews up another storm, about 70 degrees and feels a little cool after as hot as it's been.
As I type now it just started pouring down rain, yesterday it was a little uncomfortable for four the four or five hours that the power had gone out. I hope we can forego things like that.
I kinda enjoy the wind ,thunder, and lightning this time of year when its this gets this hot.
Areas of dense morning fog. Widely scattered showers or a thunderstorm this morning. Then partly cloudy. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%
I feel for you.
We ended up with a total of 6/10'' of much needed rain. But we'll steam today.
We could have had winds like that last night, but I put all the chairs and tables away. When I do that we don't get the wind, LOL! Power out was one thing I hoped didn't happen, altho it did cool off pretty fast.
I like a good storm too as long as there is no danger of damage :o)
The weather started to clear up abit yesterday. A bit drier in the afternoon. Last night must have had quite a bit of rain judging by condition of the ground.
This morning is just great. Cloud clear away about 7.30am, sun came out and its been a beautiful, partly cloudy day but no rain. Ground is still very soft and will be for a day or so but at least was able to cut the driveway grass.
Looking forward to a couple of days of normal weather. Even the water lilies are trying to hold their heads up
Well this morning I drove past one of our banks in town and it said 97.7 degrees out. This was about 11am. Going thru town again around 5pm the other bank said 93. Very hot and it doesn't take long for the heat to get to you.
OK we've got the heat. Not 90's and 100's but well into the mid 80's but humid. Wind has dropped and sky is blue.
Going on a photo hike with nature photographer friend Jack Jeffery on Tuesday so need nice weather. His specialty is Hawaiian Birds. The aim is for him to give me some photo tips and instructions. We shall see if anything rubs off.
Only cool 70's so far this morning nice breeze too.It has been pretty hot here in the afternoon with all the sunshine. No rain this morning or last night.Thinking it is through raining for a couple of days.Saturated everything nicely the last couple of days.
Seems the rain missed some you and fell here, it was the other way around a short while ago.Still maybe you all will get some rain without getting washed away. I'm sure the people in Florida would have been more than happy to send us some of the rain they had.
Disney kinda fantasy if plants could walk and talk we would all be in trouble about the no water and were we put them sometimes.
They used to be called Forest Fires. That kept the under brush at a minimum. Now that people have invaded the woods, they can't let them burn. So the under brush gets thick, then a dry spell & whoosh, big fire!
Right Now: 95░
Next 6 hours
Widespread showers and thunderstorms developing around early evening. Partly cloudy with temperatures falling to the mid 70s. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.
A stray thunderstorm is possible through the evening. Some clouds. Low 72F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
I went out a couple times today and it's just too hot in the sun. Scrubbed all the birdbaths and refilled them.
