A friend, who had just returned from a trip to England, recently showed me photos of a beautiful blue small tree/large shrub with blue clusters of flowers that she had seen while she was there. I work in a nursery part time and had just finished planting a vitex for her. However, she was still pining for something that would more closely resemble the lilacs from her childhood in upstate New York. Lilacs don't grow terribly well here in OKC, although vitex do. So, we started researching and found that this plant had to be what she had seen. Your article added to our knowledge with the information about its propagation in England in the 1800's. We had been wondering how Ceanothus had "jumped the pond" and this makes perfect sense.
Thanks again!
