The local nursery did not know what was causing the edges of the leaves to curl - if left alone they curl and roll up tightly and completely from right to left till the leaf looks like two parallel sausages - inside are tiny white dots. I just check weekly and remove affected leaves, but am wondering what it is. Of course if there is a non-toxic-to-me-and-bees remedy I'd like to try it.

Some pictures would help but maybe leafrollers?

"Leafroller"sounds like a good description of it.. I should be able to get a photo at the weekend. What cleans up leafrollers?

The red-banded leaf roller will attack violets, and also violet leaf midge will cause leaves to curl and spidermites can cause some leaf curl. (scroll to bottom for image of pest and damage)
