I never have snipped off the garlic scapes.

They uncurl and stand straight and then dry out and after they are dry and the flimsy covering dries out and breaks open - and I see these purplish kind of "kernels" inside - they are like cloves but not cloves. Mildly aromatic of garlic...

If these aren't seeds, what the heck are they? They are not for planting? Can they be used for cooking?
