Hi! I had this beautiful bush that was growing against our house and killed it when I moved it into a pot because we built a new deck. It's heartbreaking to lose this beauty! She blooms twice a year, once in June and again in late summer with these gorgeous, sweet smelling multi-petal white flowers. We'd actually nicknamed her "Heaven" because of the delightful fragrance! I need to know what she is so I can get another! She grows on woody stalks that grow straight and has mid level green foliage that lasts all spring and summer. Thanx so much for any help!!
I don't know what it is, but many times, if you leave a 'dead' plant in the pot, it will come back - sometimes, when moved into a pot, the plant goes dormant.
Hello Portland! Your "heaven" was a "mock-orange" - genus Philadelphus. I don't know which cultivar from your pictures, but the staff at your favorite nursery (Potland Nursery?) will be able to suggest several. Some forms bloom all summer...
Oh man, thank you so much Vestia! I am going to keep "Heaven" in her pot to see if she does decide to come back next spring, but I have little hope. She started shoots just after I cut her back in the pot, but they all quickly died. We'll see... In the meantime, however, I am going out to my favorite tiny garden center Deep Creek, in Gresham to find a new friend for her, maybe 2! :) I really appreciate the help!!
That was one of the double-flowered forms of Philadelphus - Mockorange. Most selections of this species are fragrant, but not all. Test drive one while in flower before purchasing.
