Space is always at a premium here in NJ but probably like some others states started the "green space" initiative awhile back. Mostly for new developments so they weren't putting mcmansions on a 1/4 acre lots.
Was driving thru a town near where we used to live, they have NO open space there, tiny little residential area with shops, restaurants and homes. there is an ice cream shop that stood in front of an L shaped shopping area, antiques and book shop, a exotic bird shop(that had a fire awhile ago) well, they razed the entire area except for the ice cream shop and declared it open space WHAT???? Isn't that the most messed up thing? Hey how about bulldozing the whole town? That would really open things up
I wish we had more universal hand gestures for communication between cars. The 'one' that we all know is what I always assume others will think I am using. And more choice in car horn. Some are hard to force into that ' non aggressive beep beep"
25 hrs a week, to me perfect. I will have to drive - ok. My supermarket is 3 miles down the road & the next is 25 minute drive. So what, I can plan the day & have lunch or what ever with my husband as I will drive right past him!!! lol
Wait till he hears this - oh boy too funny. 1st gotta get the dang job...
Saw this woman at the Mets game last night who must have had size DDD implants. They looked ridiculous. She looked like she had been around the block a few times! No spring chicken. Cowboy hat and bright red lipstick to go with the ultra-tight Mets tank. Think she wanted attention?? The guy she was with looked like a real loser - like she picked him up on the way in.
My DH & I actually picked up someone at a Mets game...actually they picked us up...had seats right behind 1st base, & their friends couldn't make it...asked us if we'd like to sit with them...Doug bought them a beer...they wouldn't take any money for the tickets! We were 5 rows up from the field...
Yes, Sherrie...how do kids get old so fast? Memory, I was taking my class to lunch one day, & one of my students pulled out her lunch ...a chicken neck...I told her to order hot lunch & she began crying telling me her Mom would kill her...I explained there was no charge that day, & spoke to the cafe ladies...another time she threw her lunch in the garbage & when her teacher called the Mom said pull it out, wash it off, & make her eat it...Dad was a minister, Mom was writing the Great American Novel...kids would come into church on a Sun. morning & eat the sugar out of the sugar bowls...
Overhear a family in Target in the next aisle asking little boy if he likes his new hair cut, Mother " oh it looks cute like that" I come around the corner to the girl wiping her hands and putting back a jar of hair gel in the back of row, nice! Really couldn't wait till you got home to spike the kids hair...freaking pigs!
Post on fb from my friend
A car pulled into the spot next to me at walmart. I looked over to find both individuals completly naked. I imediately thought they had been running from bad guys and lost their clothes in the scuffle, or had to swim through the swamp and remove their clothes do to leeches. All reasonable conclusions, far more reasonable than this being the all time low of what you acceptably wear at Walmart.
We had a GE fridge that was pretty young (less than two years?) and the defroster went bad, major problem. We ended up buying a new fridge and getting the warranty. I've never beleived in those appliance warranties but for new fridges I just fear that they have gotten too complex and squeezing so much efficiency out of them ...kind of backed up by 'cathy' in the appliance forum.
To amend- I think I got five years out of the GE but had a repair during that. We sucked up the first repair but had to question the second. Meanwhile the Kitchenaid that went to the basement is going strong after 20 plus.
Wait till you get a new car with the tire sensors. Something like a computer module. A neighbor had a friend that had one go bad. GM wanted $130 for the sensor & plus labor (here its 80 ph) as you have to have it programed!
Friend got an after market sensor 57 bucks, charged 20 to put it in. 77 bucks, saved 53 bucks. Still costed 157 bucks for a computer to contoll your car.
We have a questonable air bag light- Is it the bag or just the sensor? It seems you can only guess and check, at car owners cost of course.
There comes a point where the benefits don't make up for the cost.
Last night news was talking about new emissions standards. I can't 'save' a couple hundred a year on gas when I can't BUY the new $20 000 car.
My niece bought an expensive Samsung fridge...had all kinds of trouble with it...my son & DIL bought a GE...mold began forming, repairman couldn't solve problem, GE finally gave them a new one, but they had to pay something towards it...I have a Whirlpool of 2 years...hate it! The tire monitor went on my Tahoe...every time I turn the key the computer says "Service Tire monitor"...such a pain!
That does it - I'm keeping the 2002 Saturn for another 167,000 miles! I am also keeping the vintage Whirlpool washer until I can't find parts on Ebay any more. I swear - I am just getting old and grumpy!
True, Marilyn! Google has had driverless cars for years, testing them over 300,000 miles and they say that the only accident was when a human driver was in control! Nevada already allows driverless cars and if the Governor of California signs the bill, California will have driverless cars on the road, too. The combination of a breath alcohol testing ignition and the driverless software could prevent drunk drivers and the death and destruction they cause. Now we just have to figure out how to deal with the texting and cell phone talking drivers!
So now you have a so called Woman in a Mans prision, that cant happen so you put a so called Woman that is actually a Man in a Womans prison? Or are they going to build new prisons for He/Shes? How do you make sense of this?
I'm just posting this pic, for what it is...and that's that. I was driving from Dunmore into Scranton, and this was one of those banners that goes across the street from telephone pole to telephone pole. I almost wrecked my car getting the picture. I think there is a PR, or Ad person that definitely raised more than a few eyebrows with this.
Was walking Winston this morning when I see a women pushing a baby stroller with a net cover on it and all of a sudden it begins to bark...Didn't appear to be anything wrong with the little dog...and no baby in sight!
Oh yeah they do! Wallingford found a bird on the ground that Meeyow had killed and left and he ate it up before I could even grab him! I friend at work walks her Siamese on a leash in a rural area and she has gotten a couple of vols - while on her walks! (The cat - not the friend.)
Today I saw a boy that was somewhat disabled get on the school bus. His mother or care giver helped him to get on. Next I know the woman unloaded the grocery cart full of groceries and get on it herself!! The bus drove off with just them 2 on it. Since when do Tax Payers pay to take someone shopping on the SCHOOL BUDGET
Was the bus labelled with the school district or was it a private company? here in nj there are individual people that own their own bus and the "rent" their services to the schools, so no tax payer $ involved if they are using their bus on their own time
Is it just me but does it seem people are just doing dumber things?
Pulled up to drive up mail box guy in front of me instead of just putting it in the slot tries to toss it in, of course, most people know what happens when you try to throw a piece of flat paper, DUH
Then a lady is flying thru the parking lot of local shopping center, instead of driving the regular roadway she drives thru the pick up area by the lumber entrance at Lowe's, surprised she didn't take any customers out
Girl definitely in wrong line of work...cashier at grocery store after EVERY customer cleaned her hands with antibacterial gel
Our youngest son and fam live outside of Houston and they were walking around on a golf course with some friends. The kiddos were running around and the other father saw a snake on the fairway and was close enough to see thatit was a coral snake. They moved the kiddos away from the area pretty quickly. Got the adrenaline flowing for sure!
Both my son and the other father had remembered the rhyme, so they took precautions.
DS also almost invited a skunk into their house. They have a black and white shitzu and he opened the door to let her back in. Next time he'll turn the light on first. He is amazed they haven't been sprayed yet. Heehee. Seems there is a skunk patrol. In their neighborhood. it was right near the bushes by their door. Think I'd let the dog out in the back yard that is fenced. Less likelihood of skunks getting in there. Heehee
Job update: looking for 3 years and got this. I work now for a Floral company.
I service a market for Bouquets. I work in my town. Went to work Monday and got a call to go 30 miles to another store. Got travel time & pay. By the time I was done I worked 9.5 hours Monday. Tired, lame & beat to death.
This is a Part Time Job. Mondays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays. Saturday I have to go in for 1 hour to make sure everything is Pretty. I get 15 to 20 Hrs per week, depending.
Again this in my own opinion, is is a flat liner job. It is not a guarentee check. It bounces on what they need.
I am my own boss in a sense. I do like it, but, if a better job comes around I am clocked out.
It's been crazy traffic wise around here lately
With still one bridge out if I need to go a different way I really have to go out of the way(all of you living in the country know what I am talking about)
Hubby texted me before I left today to go a different road cause of a back up but I get to that road and there is traffic backed up so long I can't even see the end of the line
So I have to turn around and go miles out of my way to get the kids to school, of course we were late...took me 25mins when it should only take 10
Why is the bridge out? Did I miss news of some event?
Hmmm. Woman at the library today was stumped at making a Username and Password that she had to do in order to do an online application to WalMart. Think ing about it- as life goes more tech, who are we leaving behind? Yet another obstacle putting the less advantaged job seekers at the end of the line.
They are redoing every bridge that crosses over the Tpk from 7a on down cause they are widening it, for a while we had 3 bridges in a row out...why couldn't they work on 1, finish it and THEN move to the next one???
Yes, they are leaving some behind that just don't "get" computers...I find with older married couples, though, that 1 will take to it and the other doesn't
I'm guessing the bridge work had to all get done to fit with using Stimulus money.
I'm including myself in the ranks of those who re threatened with technology going far beyond me. I can well see younger people blazing past me in use of advanced smart devices. Imagine if I applied for a job that wanted Twitter skills...ack!
Hubby hates the computer
was helping him upload a program last night it was like teaching a kid something, can you please use both hands to type? it would go so much faster!
It's crazy! every road I want to take they're doing something on it
even for the field trip yesterday the bus takes the turnoff for the cranberry bogs and it ends up being a dead end, guy that lives on that road was outside and told the bus driver they recently closed off the road that went straight thru to the bogs, had to back the bus up and go a different way
Jen we got reminders all the time in grade school (my kids) but to actually find them would have been a real shock to me too!
The last hotel we stayed in, in NYC, had gone to sparkling white for all the bedding. I bet thats so people can see there are no bedbugs.
We'll still have to write by hand no matter what. It just won't be pretty. or script. YEah it will be kind of lame. Some sort of print I guess. My former boss (man) had the most beautiful cursive writing, I admired that. He would have learned in the 1930s.
I saw that about the cursive writing but then talking to a teacher they said they wanted to start cursive earlier because it was actually easier for little kids to make the loops and stuff
So you never know where they get their ideas from
I think that with so many people without power they are realizing you can't really rely on computers esp if you have no electric
One of the funny things about a blackout is when you are forced to clear out the entire fridge/freezer and you come across something buried or blocked for a long time. I still have this!! Clinton was still president...
I know I say this all the time, but time really seems to be flying extra quickly lately. Thanksgiving in one week?! Did not even start Christmas shopping. The storm made it seem like Halloween never happened. Weird.
Was a bit unnerving.. Taught us new respect for password security.
And who, in the end, takes the hit for the money lost that we got reimbursed? I guess all of us collectively, as part of doing business in this era.
I can look at it and watch it actually split. Its usless right now, its just like an ear ache or tooth ache throbbing. No wonder why they cant keep help. Whimps cant do this job. If I cant get this healed, I will probably have to miss a day.
Combination of winter heat, ripping leaves off & the water. No moisturizer will even come close.
My friend that I've known since I was 10 just went on date with guy that was a freshman in my high school when I was a senior, I worked with his twin cousins and keep in touch with his sister on fb...small world
Ya never know who you might run in to- good or bad lol A guy that I barely knew in college, like 'seen me around' not even hung out with ever even once, recognized me in the Chuck E Cheez after some fifteen year span- What facial recognition! Good for him cuz he's a cop. Girl I hardly knew in highschool recognized me when I visited my dad in rehab center, easily twenty-five years span. I must have very poor face remembering skills.
I remember faces but it's the names I'm not good with
I was working at a school and 1 of the girls in the office was sooooo familiar to me, finally I was walking down the hall one day and had to run back " I KNOW WHERE I MET YOU!!!" she almost fell off her chair, we attended the same church about 10 years prior
Eek...I'm not great with faces or names... remember people's dogs though, don't know what that says about me...however, when students I had 30 years ago say, "Hi, don't you remember me?" I should be forgiven...don't remember any students with white hair, beards, and weighing 200 hundred...
And how did that make you feel?? (chuckle)
You do tend to see a lot of seniors in certain doctor's offices.
I enjoy, much more, going to the Gym and seeing people older than me. There's a lady who I am sure is at least ten years older and I bet she can kick my butt. She'll do Zumba and stay for the power class. Way to go !
Charity begins at home ...our town cannot afford a track for the high school kids...they run on the sidewalks & onto a state highway...so much money, millions, was spent for stupid TV ads on CT's Senate race...so many towns could have used that money...I can't justify sending it abroad when there's such a need right here...
This from a post from a guy I used to work with, he gets calls like this all the time...ROTFL
Me: Hello, Security, this is Roric
Man: Hi, I need to speak to the manager please.
Me: sorry, he is not here, he works M-F 7am to 3pm
Man: I have a huge problem. I was there about two hours ago and one of your employees threw change at me and I am not going to tolerate that kind of behavior.
Me: Sir, I am not sure I understand you. I think you may have the wrong number. This is Carnegie Center in Princeton.
Man: No it's not. This is the number I was given. The operator wouldn't lie to me.
Me: Sir, this is Security at Carnegie Center.
Man: I know you are lying because Carnegie Hall is in New York. Am I on a comedy show?
Me: Carnegie Center Sir. Not Hall.
Man: What is Carnegie Center?
Me: Sir, is there anything I can help you with?
Man: This is stupid. I just called to complain about your employee.
Me: Sorry Sir, your coupon is in the mail. Goodbye.
another one from the week before
Me: Hello, security, This is Roric
Lady: Hi Roy, do you guys still have the metal shovels in stock. I went to your other location and they were sold out. Before I come all the way out there I wanna make sure you have them.
Me: Wow! Listen, i'd really love to help you but I am the security officer at Carnegie Center. Think you may have the wrong number.
Lady: Oh, so sorry. Thought I called the right department. Could you transfer me?
Years ago Jim & I both had a bad cold, bought Mucinex and took it. A year went by and Jim kept saying - WOW I am dry. Come to find out he was taking it as Ibprofen!!!!!!!!!!! Dumb butt head. Laughed so hard, still smiling.
More Twilight Zone. Please remind me why we are there.
"A proposed new handbook for Americans serving in Afghanistan warns them not to speak ill about the Taliban, advocate women’s rights or criticize pedophilia, and the general in charge is not happy with it."
Lady at church tells a funny story about a lady at the assisted living where she used to work had gotten an Elvis tattoo way back when and now Elvis looks very unrecognizable, can't remember who or what she said it looked like but she had me crying I was laughing so hard, she told her daughter that story when she wanted to get one and she never did
DS is watching a really interesting documentary on Netflix, "Urbanized"
-Mumbai has a ratio of something like 500 people to a toilet. (Supposedly) working towards their goal of fifty people to a toilet.
-Brazil has a bus system with exclusive bus lanes- much cheaper than building a subway. So a bus with a hundred people gets a (theoretical) hundred times the space on the highway. So smart! In some areas, pedestrians and bicycles have a nice paved path alongside a mud road for cars- encourages the bikes and walkers. Yay!
-Now showing The High Line in NYC that I read about but we did not get to see when we visited last month.
Very disrespectful people...maybe drunk or drugged...who knows...I was in the supermarket yesterday, when an alarm kept going off...the PA system was calling for security to check out several zones...I was so paranoid, I was looking for a place to hide...
