I don't normally follow this thread, but I am so tired of watering, I have to scream into the ethos...or more accurately the cloud, I guess. The whole month of July had exactly one-half inch of rain. I've never had drought like this in Maine. I'm not set up for irrigation and the only method is standing there with a hose and praying the well doesn't go dry. Every single thunderstorm has missed us. It sure gets discouraging. The only good part is at ,least the temperature isn't in the 100s like in the Midwest...
Yesterday was miserable on land so I stayed out on the ocean most of the day. Humid and sticky heat I don't like...dry heat I can tolerate.
68 now high of 82 today.

Last night's storm advisory missed us except for the lightening and thunder. Garden is dry dry dry. A little rain isn't enough. All my garden energies are in getting more and more mulch down. 90 degree days keep happening until a cooling trend is predicted midweek. Rain promised for 7 pm today too. Leaves have turned over already. I'm going back to dump more bags!
I know that newly planted shrubs need water every week the first year, but in the second year, how often do they need to be watered, do you think? And how about established shrubs/dwarf trees, how long can they handle no rain, any ideas?
I don't like being cold either, but being hot and sweaty makes me really grouchy and shortens my fuse tremendously. I am sure if I ever killed anyone, it would be in summer. ^_^
Cue the music to 'If Ever I Would Leave You':
'If ever I would kill you, I'm sure it would be summer. Seeing you in summer, I never would let go (of neck)!
Your hair streaked with blood stains, your lips blue as sky, your face with a puncture, it's time now to die...'
Already over 70 & sticky...storms predicted for later...talked to my doctor yesterday & how much the heat & humidity have bothered me...older folks have more trouble regulating body temp...he confessed after an hour of working on his farm, he's in the barn drinking water...never happened just a few years ago...also, this past July was the hottest on record for the USA...
Was at BJ's and I rushed to get home cause it was getting real windy and super dark
weirdest storm EVER front yard super dark and in the back yard the sun was brightly shining, it was pouring both sides, very loud thunder no lightning
Woke up @ 3:45 am to the sound of glorious rain! Rained for a good hour and a half! I think I heard alot of AHHH's coming from the back-forty. ^_^
It's 68 now, variable clouds and thunderstorms today high of 75.
rain, no thunder & lighning as yet. tornado watch over springfield area is down. Lots of tree damage in Glastonbury CT. Problem was the heavy damage prediction area was where they had tornados lost June. Not needed for those folks.
I think that pirl is east of that county.
2" of rain early this evening & more at the moment. Very humid so uncomfortable even if temp is 73°. There was a worry earlier this afternoon as the storm seemed to be heading towards the sites of last year's tornado, but it turned into a rainstorm instead.
have had two days of sporatic heavy downpours here - it was pouring this morning and it gave me a chance to see if the downspout i buried into a trench and the rock wall i built up above the stream are doing the job of diverting rain from washing into the pond - happy to report my efforts worked.
now do i dare venture out for a hike - supposed to have more rain.
was too humid to open the windows even though the temps were low last night.. I kept everything closed.. too bad.. 70 now going to 82 .. some scattered storms around.. woke up to the deck being wet.. yeah no watering!!!
It's raining. ...(Big Grin) 64 now clearing later on this afternoon high of 68 for today! ? Might be a typo but if not i'll take a cool day with no A/C! Only down fall is we have flash flood warnings all over the place. :(
74° & mainly sunny. At 11:30 last night it suddenly sounded like the roof was caving in. the thunderclap took me by surprise as I had not seen any lightning. It rained & a closer thunder storm went on for a bit over an hour. Shut the bedroom window as the rain began to blow in.
DH measured 3 & 3/4" in the rain gage this morning.
We had thunder showers that knocked out several antennas in the region last night. This am our internet tower was down, and cell phones were disrupted. The day ended up sunny, and thanks to RCN 's repairs, this message comes to you tonight.
Great sleeping night last night here as well. Nice day today. High was 83.
Weather in YS was exquisite. Never higher than the low 80's and ridiculously dry - a bit too dry. We all had dry skin, lips and throats. Woke up to 30's each morning. One morning was 30 degrees! Warmed up quickly, though.
