Help needed with argument please. I think that this is a Ruellia, but don't know which one. It is growing in Portugal,
and grows to 4 or 5 ft. Needs full sun and lots of water. Cuttings root easily. However my garden centre has never
heard of Ruellia, but has a similar plant which only grows to 12-15 ins., which they say is a Solanum. They do not
take kindly to second opinions!! Flowers all summer, and flowers fall off between 5 and 6pm.
    Thanks, Bill Ure

It is definitely a Ruellia. I still call the species tweediana, but there seems to be some controversy or name-changing/reclassification going on. I must admit I don't think much of your local garden centre and they don't seem too knowledgeable. If they had a computer, they could learn a lot. Tell them to check out DG, LOL!

Thanks Vanillaman. It's not really a garden centre, more a village shop with plants.
    And as for computers!! Bill.

I understand billure. Sounds like here. There are little places that sell plants and pots, etc. Once in a while you find something interesting or unusual. No actual garden centres however. Naturally most of the names are in Costa Rican Spanish too, LOL! Sorry can't help you with its toxicity.

Many species of Ruella are considered toxic. This link does not specify, but this is the plant in question. Followed by general info on Ruellia link.
