I have just gained interest in these two colorful types of plants. However i would like to know some things about the Heucherella species compared to Heuchera.
I know that heucherella is a cross with heuchera and Tiarella. But are there any advantages to it over regular heuchera? (such as hardiness, drought tolerance, disease resistance, etc.)
As with most plants, once you get down to the cultivars they're all different. There are Heucheras, Tiarellas, and Heucherellas that perform wonderfully in my zone, and just as many that perform miserably. But there's not much consistancy when it comes to which genus they fall under. My advice is to shop your local independent garden center (as opposed to the box stores) and seek the advice of their nurserypeople.
