I am pretty sure these are some sort of wood spiders and are harmless. We have removed 3 from the outside of our house so far. They are the largest spider I have ever come across in real life. They are a little bigger than a quarter, not counting the legs. It looks small in this picture, but those wood boards are bigger than they seem.

I just want to make sure they are indeed harmless and not something scary.

It's a orb weaver (Araneidae); all of these are harmless.
