CLOSED: Our cat was chasing this insect in the house

Kanata, Canada

Our cat was chasing this insect that somehow got inside our home. I have never seen this kind of insect before. It was about 3 inches long. I didn't get a chance to get ruler beside before it flew off. The "tail" looked segmented like a scorpion. The back legs had bulges. Any thoughts on what it might be? I am in Kanata, Ontario, Canada. Thank you!

You are very welcome, Chris. I found it interesting that that is the only species of Pelecinid found in Canada.

regards.
