I've tried growing this vine for several years in my Zone 9b garden. It wasn't worth it. No matter what (now warm or cold the winter), it would NOT start blooming until so late in the fall as to be discouraged by the slightest cold snap (not very cold, indeed). The pictures of it are glorious, but the reality in my case, not so much. It usually looked ratty. I wasn't a bit sorry to yank it up and consign it to the trash.

The pictures in the article are from my garden. It has bloomed all summer, though it is mostly bloomed out right now. I'm sorry it didn't do well in your Texas garden. I guess all plants don't do well everywhere.
