    This is about 7 feet tall in August here in zone 5B. A customer brought in pictures for me to ID. I was stumped because I couldn't sell a spiky plant like this! He says the goldfinches love it. Any ideas would be helpful please. Sorry about the scanned picture.

    Thistle of some sort--I'm sure there are some that occur in your area, or else if this person does bird feeders it could have popped up from birdseed (finches love thistle seed)

    Thanks for the birdseed idea anyway! I might be able to do some research along that line.

    Probably a Spear Thistle, but needs some closer pics to be sure.
