Has anyone tried or succeeded in starting manzanita from seed? On two different tours from two different Rangers I heard two different requirements for germination (if left to natural devices). One Ranger in Joshua Tree said that the seeds needed a particularly wet year to wash away the waxy coating. Another Ranger at Bryce Canyon said that fire was needed (presumably to get through the skin of the seed pod). Both scenarios are understandable in nature. But how about after I have picked the seeds out of the tiny apple for which the plant is named?
