There's always room for more folks to join us. If you're just stumbling upon our Birthday thread or have lurked in the past and would like to join the fun, here's how our group works. During your Birth Month, you will receive a Birthday Card from each of the other participants. And in turn, you are to mail a Birthday Card to each participant during their Birth Month. Too funny, Paula! I am not going to show that to my hubby...lol

Why wait til next year when you can jump in now, Alicia. I've seen your cards and know any of us would love to be your recipient :)

We had a nice surprise Thursday morning when our mail lady showed up way earlier than delivery time and left several Pumpkins she's grown on our porch. She also left a few Butternut Squash that I'll roast or make soup with. They are so good drizzled with melted butter and Maple syrup. Time to get crackin' and make a Fall display. Anybody else here make one?

So much for the two dwarf Pampas Grass plants I bought three years ago that weren't supposed to grow more than 4' tall. Both are obviously different cultivars and their blooms now reach above the eave of our garage.
We also rescued one with variegated leaves from a dumpster the same year and it's planted in the Wild Child garden out front where I hang large flags that change with the Seasons.

LK I have a wooden witch like the one you posted that I have been trying to get painted and put together for years now. I need a few more hours in the day for all the things I want to get done. It would look so cool smacked into one of our trees here.

Would someone explain to me what genetic fault men have that they just have to go play golf even when it is raining cats and dogs? Something in that strand is missing for sure. Just because he took the day off to play doesn't mean he has to go or does it? :0)

OMG Can I relate! If it's not "his idea" it's not a "good idea". Ya'll, I do believe our husbands are long-lost brothers.

Hunting season starts here Saturday. I don't know who's more excited...me or him! A few hours to myself will be Heaven. Truth be known, he probably feels the same way. Over the years I've seen him play golf rain or shine often in 100 degree temps, come home from hunting freezing cold on snowy days despite being dressed like the Michelin Man, and before we were married I've heard the story more than once how he and a buddy went fishing one snowy day and their snot froze!

Hi, all!
Alicia, welcome! It's great to have you join us :)
Paula, what did the bumper sticker say?
Fruity, what a neat surprise to find :) What kind of displays do you like to make for the fall?
My mom bakes acorn squash with a mixture of brown sugar and butter in them. She bakes them long enough that the squash gets nice and tender and the butter and brown sugar gets to a nice syrupy consistancy. I've made it, too, but it's been a while. Might have to do some of it again soon!

Michelle, There were several bumper stickers in the same photo. One said "Your Silence Will Not Protect You", another said "I haven't been the same since that house fell on my sister"...lol But the one with a Halloween theme said "My Other Car is a Broom".

Fall display...well, we usually have a cluster of Corn shocks tied with twine and bales of hay stacked up strewn with Pumpkins and Mums. Nothing fancy and still haven't begged enough Corn stocks to use. Nobody much had a good stand of Corn this year due to lack of rain.

Did you all hear the shortage of Bacon reported last week here in the States is mainly a hoax to bolster pork prices in Great Britain?

Just checked the calendar today and Monday is a Holiday. National Children's Day and Columbus Day observed in the US; Thanksgiving in Canada; and Health and Sports Day in Japan. That means for us in the Birthday Club there won't be mail on Monday, so get those cards and letters in the mail to Neener as soon as you can for her big day next Tuesday.

Hi, all.
Neener, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope your day is wonderful :)
Back to fall weather here after we briefly revisited summer! Still need to finish replanting freesias... Got the largest ones replanted before the heat returned, and they're already growing! Still have lots of little ones to replant, and they, too, are already sprouting. Hope to get them replanted this week some time so they can really get on with their growing! Want to get various kinds of seeds planted, too. So many other things to do, though, so I'll have to see what I get to.
Hey, my dahlias have buds on them again! They died back when they went so long without being watered. But when I started watering them again, they started growing leaves again. And now, they all have buds again :) Will be neat to have their flowers blooming again!
Have a great week, everyone!

Michelle, You're next in ye olde Birthday queue! Do you have plans yet for your birthday or that week-end?

Since Saturday, I've been living vicariously through our mail lady's texts and pics from her vacation at Myrtle Beach. A girlfriend went with her and they stayed right on the beach. Lucky dawgs! Heard all about their good times and fresh seafood they ate when they stopped by today to retrieve her friend's car that was parked in our backyard. You know how some people bring you a T-Shirt with a saying about their vacation? Didn't get one, but instead we were treated to a big box of Salt Water Taffy. It's been years since I thought about how popular that stuff is and its different flavors.

Our Time Sharing is at "Regency Towers" and we too were on the water front. 3 bed.rm, corner suite with windows on the entire side of the living room plus balcony. Because of Ray's health I will not be joining them this year..in fact our week starts Sun., Nov. 4. I think I have a buyer for my half of the share.

Hi, all.
Neener, the card arrived! Found it in the mailbox Wednesday.
Sorry, all, no pictures... The suspense continues... But I will say, the card is done in such a way that I can enjoy it too! :)
Yum, salt water taffy! I also haven't had it in a long time.
Susan, your comment about visiting the beach vicariously reminded me of when my husband was in Cambridge, Mass. for training for his current job. We talked just about every day, and I had fun hearing about all the yummy food he had. Didn't get a T-shirt when he got home, either. But I did get my husband back! :)
Crit, so glad you could stop by! I do hope your back feels better soon! And do stop by when you can, even just to wave hello :)
Well, better go for now. Take care, everyone!

Hi, all.
Celebrated my guide dog's 8th birthday on Saturday, October 20 :) He got to do lots of his favorite things... went for a nice walk, hung out with doggie friends, had a nice nap on the big bed (our bed), enjoyed the sunshine, played with us and a people friend of his, and enjoyed tasty doggie cookies after we sang happy birthday to him :) All in all, a very nice day!
Faye, congrats on getting the new car! Sorry you weren't able to post the picture. Hopefully, you can find a way to post it at some point...
Best be going for now. Take care, everyone, and have a great Tuesday!

Ladies, we have lost Carolyn from the Birthday thread, her husband is pretty sick, and she needs to take care of him, and things at the house. Please say a prayer for him.
In the meantime, we need someone to fill in and take over the month of March for her, and post a new thread when the time comes.

I mailed a musical card to you today, Michelle. You'll know it's from me when you hear the dog bark Happy Birthday To You, over and over...so cute and pretty good for a Weiner Dog...lol

I've been thinking about your card making the rounds, Lanakila, and it must be one everybody signs or perhaps makes the rounds to see how far it has gone. Am I close making a guess? My SIL started a card a few years ago that did the same thing, plus we had to calculate how many miles it had traveled, The prize was a Christmas ornament. It was fun for all of us who participated.

#####

Our Annual Christmas swap is now open and you're all invited to play...come one and all...the more the merrier!

Hi, all.
Fruity, that sounds like a fun card :) Wonder if my guide dog will get interested, too, with the dog barks LOL
Regarding the card from Lanakila: I've been encouraged to share it with others not in DG as we're each going to be getting our own special card. These are perpetual birthday cards, so be thinking about whom you'd like to share yours with! Neener sent the one she received from lanakila to me, so I'll get a picture of it to post (hopefully sooner than later) so you all can see it. It's pretty cool! It will be neat to see what all designs lanakila comes up with for all the cards. Would be neat if everyone could post a picture of the cards from lanakila so everyone can enjoy them :)
Carolyn, sorry you have to drop out. Stop by and say hello when you have a chance. And I'll be keeping you and your husband in my prayers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Michelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had written a LONG thread, when something happened or I hit a key but the WHOLE THREAD just disappeared! Not just what I was typing!

I have cards to catch up on. I will work on that as I feel well enough to. Glad I bought a roll of 'forever stamps' a while back! Since most bill pay is done online, stamps last a long time!

Hi, all.
Thank you, everyone, for your birthday wishes!
yummy... Thanks for the cake, LK :) And thanks, Paula, for your wonderful description of it! It sounds lovely :)
So, cake for everyone? ... Thought so! ... Consider the cake served :)
Had a lovely day! A friend came over. We originally planned to play board games, but spent the time visiting instead :)
And before she arrived, I admired my garden while enjoying some warm sunny weather. I discovered several paperwhites in full bloom... They smell heavenly! And I was excited to discover that at least one of my calla lilies is still alive! Wasn't sure if they would regrow after going for so long without water, so was very happy to finally find some green shoots!
Even discovered that a sweet alyssum volunteer is now flowering (purple flowers), and there are other sweet alyssum volunteers coming along :) And I have dahlia flowers, too :)
A week or two ago, I was surprised to discover a tuberose plant getting ready to bloom! It's getting closer, but not there quite yet.
Later, I had fun reading through all the cards that have arrived from family and Birthday Club members :) Thank you, Crystal, Fruity, and Faye! I received your cards! :)
By the way, Fruity, my dog seemed to
understand that the dogs singing happy birthday weren't really there, so he just hung out with us.
We typically hang our cards up on a ribbon throughout the year so we can enjoy them longer, but we kept Fruity's card down lower where I can reach it more easily. That way, I can replay the dog's singing happy birthday whenever I want :)
And my husband and I went to one of my favorite restaurants for dinner and dessert! The food was all very delicious... I'm looking forward to eating my leftovers, including some yummy chocolate cake, for lunch :)
All in all, a lovely birthday :)
Stay safe, everyone, and have a great week!

What a fun day, Michelle, and lovely to know you still have blooms to admire.
Mickey tries to eat every musical card, whether dogs are barking or not.
For my 50th, we had a big cook-out and all the attendees signed a huge musical card that plays 'Who Let the Dogs Out'.
I still play it sometimes just to irritate him...lol
Pretty boy was groomed today, can't believe he's almost seven.

I'll get one, LK. He's down for the count. Days he gets groomed wear him out. He even slept most of the way home. The vests I'd knitted and gave to the groomer were big hits. I'm still kicking myself for not taking a pic of her black puppy wearing the one that was orange and black. Her other dog is a 13 year old Shih Tzu, blind in one eye, and sported one of the brown two-toned vests. Another went to a tiny Yorkie customer.

Hi, all.
Hee hee hee :) Fruity, your story reminds me of my previous guide dog. Except, instead of barking dogs, it was quacking ducks that really caught her attention. I have one of those soft cuddly stuffed animal ducks with a thing inside that if you squeeze it, it quacks. I used to make it quack, and she'd get so silly, bounce up and down, run around, and try to get it. I had to keep it up out of her reach, but it was always funny to see how she'd react. She finally caught on, though, and figured out that it wasn't real and started to ignore it. But I have some funny memories! LOL
I received Lanakila's card today! We're hoping to get a picture of both of the cards that Lanakila made some time this week. Will post them as soon as I can :)
Thank you, Lanakila! The one I received today is really neat, too. The colors are a lot like the colors in a quilt my mom made for us: greens, blue, and purple. And the star pattern reminds me of a blouse my mom made me that also has a star pattern :) Very cool!
Ooo, Shirley, your birthday's next... Coming up quick, too :)
