...just wondering does anyone know what this insect is? I have found two in my house the last couple of weeks and its freaking my girlfriend out!

Rove beetle (family Staphylinidae), maybe one known as the devil's coach horse. General predator on other small arthropods but harmless to humans.

Thanks a lot, we were just wondering as both had never seen one before. Read on wiki that they like to eat woodlice which makes sense as we seem to get lots in the house.
