I saw this bug in my front porch last week, and brushed it outside and then took a picture of it.

It appears to be some sort of large beetle, but with an upturned tail reminiscent of a scorpion. Can anyone identify it?

I'm in the UK by the way.

A large rove beetle; looks like one known as the devil's coach horse - http://www.buglife.org.uk/discoverbugs/bugofthemonth/The Devil’s Coach Horse

That does look like that's what it is, thank you.

By the way, the link you've posted appears to be invalid.

That's odd - wonder why it worked when I accessed it. Oh well - try this one - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil's_coach_horse_beetle
