Hello! I can't figure out what kind of hawk or other raptor this might be. The distinct quality are the bright red colored feathers on the back. It doesn't look like any pictures I've seen of a red shouldered hawk. The picture isn't the greatest, I was using my phone camera. This was in a suburb southwest of Chicago, Illinois. Any guesses would be great, thanks!
Red-tailed Hawk, juvenile. It has wing tags on, in the hope of tracking its migration, etc. If you can get some better pics, you should be able to read the letter / number on the tags, and find out where it has come from. A bit like banding, but more visible.
Wow! Very interesting. I saw this while at work so I only have my phone on me to take pictures. I will keep an eye out. I was told by someone else that this was a red shouldered hawk, but I didn't really think so based on what I have looked up.
