Juvi White-throated? When I was filling the pond, it flew into the backside of the pond. The foliage is so thick back there that you can't really see anything. All I knew was that a small reddish bird had flown into the back. Then I saw it by the patio eating grass seeds. Coloring is similar to Swamp Sparrow. It was pretty small though like a Lincoln's. I don't know what the heck it is. Only 2 bad pics before it disappeared back into the thick foliage around the pond.

I have looked at this bird several times now and still haven't come to a conclusion. But since it has been days without a reply, I thought I'd put in something. :)

If I had to lean one way, it would be an immature Swamp sparrow. A Lincoln's crown would be more streaky, even at the young age, but the crown of the Swamp would be brown or black. (From All About Birds)

I hope someone will come by with more certainty.

I've been stuck with it too, if that's any consolation! Seems to show characters of both Swamp and Lincoln's, without being fully right for either. Wonder if the two ever hybridise??

I'd decided that it had to be a swamp sparrow, but a hybrid is an interesting idea.

Thanks to both of you for your input.
