I'm going to guess March 11 for the final Robin landing. The real robins should be back in Ohio by then, a sure sign that spring is here!

Here I am... been busy planting sooo many trees and shrubs.. Finished reading the posts on the other thread and thanks susie and fruity...I forgot about our list. And by the way that was only a list of what I had sent into susie to get the robin started. Forgot to list my wants, will have to work on that...

Garden Quail...not sure about the upper zones on that Penstemon palmerii, can read up on it at HighCountryGardens.com. I put in just before July 4th last summer (2011), I remember cuz I had plantd 2 or 3 just before that big hail and horrible deluge on July 10th I believe. I lost all but the 1 plant. It started as a quart sized pot, and this summer had matured to 4-41/2Ft^ X 36">. Flowers were a light pink,(duh)...I forgot to smell, lol...I can't believe I forgot to smell as much as I touted the thing...gads!!!), but years ago had smelled at Den. Bot. Gardens and is sweet. They grow wild in New Mexico and southern climes of Colorado, maybe over to Ariz.. I know they had listed as z5 and up but don't remember what. Will repost pix when I get home as am sitting Gkids this weekend.

Off for a few days sitting the gkids and am glad for the change of scenery...LOL. Gosh I've been planting like crazy to get things in the ground before the weather sets (so far I gotten 108 trees and shrubs planted in the last few weeks that's why I've been missing, lol), in toward that yucky stuff, tho we had some gropple today and might get a few inches of snow tonight.

Gotcha, Susie, and will forward the Robin to Lanakila. Since those two NC gals live so close, I'll stick with my original guess. Can't wait to see what the prize is thisyear. You always have nice ones.

Your situation is totally understandable, Chris. It's great to see you back with us.

Question about Spaghetti Squash -- > I roasted a whole one yesterday, not thinking to cut it in half first to remove the seeds. Since they've literally been baked, are the seeds still viable? Guess I could do a spout test but wondered if any of you have done the same thing and already know the results...yea or nay.

I've been voting in the Photography Contest a few categories at a time -- there are so many entries this year in every category -- and came across Salpiglossis sinuata "Painted Tongue" which is just a breathtaking annual. Do any of you by chance have seeds of any cultivars?

Fruity...love Painted Tongue too, if you find any seed remember me too. If not, there is one nursery in Denver that sells 12 packs of the mixed plants and will get and save the seed... Haven't had for more than 10 years so if I have any seed of it, probably very old... If I remember right the seed needs warmth but darkness to germinate, (so indoor start). And probably should get another spaghetti squash, remember the seeds next tiime...lol.

Burry this weekend, had a bit of snow and ready for it to warm up again so I can get planting. 17* this morning. Yuck!

When I have seeds that need darkness, I just put several sheets of newpaper over the top of the lid til I see germination. Am thinking that Violas like it dark to start also.

These were not harvested from my gardens, but are fresh 2012 seeds. I've indicated the number of available packs and quantity of seeds in each one. My apologies the quantities aren't greater but is the way the numbers worked out after dividing and thought it better to offer several than in a lot.

There's a stand of Purple Mexican Petunias at a house I pass on the way to town. I've admired them for years but never had the courage to stop and ask for a division or seeds until last week, and wouldn't you know it, no one was home. And as tempting as it was, I resisted going rustling...lol

Fruity, I was that way with the neighbors apple trees. There are 4 trees in the neighborhood that go unpicked...what a shame. I stopped at one house this year to ask if they would mind if I harvest - and they didnt answer the door. Next year I WILL harvest apples...even if I end up using them to feed the deer - right now they get tossed in the trash :/

That's a shame, Steph. We lost out lone Apple tree a couple of years ago. We've been here almost 20 years. The Apple tree and Japanese Cherry Tree were just about the only ones on the property. Stupid people working for the cable company wrecked our Apple tree with a bucket truck and it never recovered. Last year in June we lost a huge limb out of our Cherry Tree in a storm. Our neighbor across the road went through the same thing with her Apple tree when the orange Asplund trucks hit the neighborhood. She literally had to stand her ground because power lines overhead were 'close' they said. Yeah, right, they're still a good 5' above her tree. She won :) Hubs was out at the same time guarding one of our Maple trees. He transplanted saplings from our woods on a hot August day many moons ago. They never should have lived but are now really nice specimens upwards of 50' or more.

yup, another plant that has to be controlled. I have Mexican Petunia planted on our fenceline--it is a great natural barrier.
All I can say is don't plant it where you don't want it growing forever:) I haven't seen seed pods on my plants, have been checking all summer but no pods.

Now you've got me thinking where to plant the Mex. Petunias, Paula. We are on the line of hardiness, so maybe a pot is the way to go. Will be an interesting experience trying new seeds.

Fruity...lol. I know ...I should have listed what was in the arrangement...Nope no Freesias (but they do smell soooo good tho). 2 football mums, purple is an Aster from the garden (can't remember which one tho, is at my daughter's house and I keep forgetting to get some for home, maybe next spring), Counterclockwise... Origanum from the garden, Alstomeria and of course Gypsophila (bought as it was out of season to use mine)and a few spikes of grass from Miscanthus, and a couple of Hops vines twined in. Gosh with all the planting I did this season I sure hope I get to make some neat bouquets next summer.

Just a couple of hollyhocks from this summer, am hoping my baby Hibiscus put in this season will bloom in '13. Same family but LARGER flowers. By the way, my tallest hollyhock this seson was only 3 foot, most were only 12" on the seedlings...COME ON EL NINO. (sp)...lol. I want snow (after I get done planting...maybe after the 1rst part of December!!!!!!

Busy planting all day, whew, I'm thinking I'll relax this evening...

No worries, Donna. I'm growing Baby Bok Choi in our Fall planters and may be able to save seeds later on. Really glad you enjoyed the big fat bird.

Speaking of big fat birds, with Thanksgiving around the corner what's everybody here doing for the Holiday? It's just hubs and me, maybe my MIL if she's up to traveling, although I cook enough to feed a dozen folks. We are also feeding two neighborhood friends who live alone. They won't be lonely Thursday as both have daughters and their families nearby, but they will welcome leftovers by next week-end. Turkey gets roasted Wednesday. Hubs always goes hunting Thanksgiving morning and I prepare our sides then and crank up Christmas music or sneak a peek or two at the Macy's parade.

Edited to add I'll be using some of the Rosemary you see in the planter as well in the Turkey rub and some finely chopped in cornbread dressing. Would like to one day grow culinary Sage instead of using the powder.

Hey susie...yup the perennial Lupines won't bloom first season, one that will is an annual, Lupine 'Sunrise' take a look, it's at tmseeds.com. I may have some extra Lupine seeds if there weren't any in the box I sent you. They will be a deep (wine) red and dark purple. I did have some of a light pink also...will look and see what I can find for you, remind me again later in the week as it's late tonight and am off to sit my granddaughters in the morning.

Finished planting the backyard today except 1 large tree, will try to get in next weekend. And any time I have left before the snows will be spent lining out all plants I can't get in where I want them til spring. Lined out about 20-30 vines, shrubs and a few perenns. so far. More than 120 trees, shrubs and 33 peonies in as of today, not including those lined out til spring. The hoses are possible paths, just not sure yet (the yellow one is watering all my new goodies). Open areas in the lower part of the pix will contain paths and perennial plantings. Whew!!!! Tho I still have sooo much to line out. Later gals...Kathy.

Ooops, almost forgot...will look at the Origanum tomorrow to see I can find any seed. Or anyone have any rooting info on the stems?

Our Sour Cream Banana Nut Bread is history, but I did make Blueberry and Poppy Seed muffins yesterday.

Any kind of jam, made from Fruit ya know, works for breakfast, lunch or dinner ;) Enjoy your days off, Alana.

Gosh, Karen, that means Big Bird should land here one day next week. Does having a slice of pizza for breakfast break the rules? Must be hot; can't stand cold pizza.

Neighbor gal stopped by with apples, no pie in hand, but her family is in the middle of storing many of those huge round bails of hay to feed their cows over Winter, so she's forgiven.

Happy Birthday Stephanie!!!!!

Hey Susie...did you call the other day? Sorry I missed it, and then couldn't think who it was, after about an hour it dawned on me, that's if I guessing correctly...Silly me.

Hope everyone is having a great day...still waiting to eat here..made two pumpkin pies and whipped cream fruit salad, cranberry sauce and stuffing. Everyone else gets to make the rest...still waiting for the turkey to arrive.

Hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Since it is only the 3 of us here, I made lamb chops (turkey is not a favorite of mine). Roasted red potatoes, Squash, green bean casserole,
creme brulee, and a red velvet cake. And 2 nice bottles of wine.

Have a great evening everyone!

Made it to our church's Thanksgiving meal :) Even got to bring leftovers home, so we'll have more turkey for Friday :)
Lanakila asked about some seeds she'd like to receive if I have them available... Hope to update my seed trade info soon.

Again, thank you for the birthday wishes :) you are such a thoughtful group.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Braved Black Friday by heading to Lowe's for a microwave for the rental and pick out ceramic tile for the basement floor.
I dont need anything to brave the other retail stores. Neither does anyone else in the house.

OH DJ -- how awful for your classmate and his family! We've had three staff members who have had members of their family die this month...it's been awful!

I did brave black friday on thursday at michaels last night...they were having 30% off everything including sale prices! I'm making an afghan for my boss for Christmas so I saved $22 bucks on the yarn! YAHOO!

below -- check out my garden cupcakes for a friend's birthday today! It was fun to make all the veggie rows...everything is edible - either chocolate or starbursts or mm's

Your cupcakes are too darn cute, Candi.

Leftovers will end tomorrow after making turkey stock / turkey soup and deliver plates of food to two of our neighbors who live alone but did spend yesterday with family. Hope Thanksgiving was a great day for all of you!

Among the many blessings in my life, I'm thankful having 'seed head' friends.

Hi, all.
Candi, those cupcakes sound fun :) What a clever idea!
Lanakila, I finally got a chance to check my seeds. I've added you to my lists to receive the following:
Cerinthe "Pride of Gibraltar"
Heliotrope "Deep Marine"
Stock "Ten-Week Bouquet"
Creeping Thyme
If anyone else is interested in any seeds, let me know.
By the way, it looks like one of my rose bushes has grown a couple of rose hips. How do I tell when they are ready to be picked?
