As a child in grade school, we celebrated Memorial Day with an outdoor program. I was honored with the 'job' of reciting In Flanders Fields during the ceremonies. At the conclusion of the ceremony, our 2 best trumpet players played Taps. One would play it at the site where all the classes were gathered. The other would be at the other end of the school to play the echo. It was very moving, and I was so proud to be a part of the program. Such a touching poem. Thank you for reminding me of this honor I had as a child. Schools should continue to have assemblies like this throughout our nation lest we forget.
