I'm definitely not a cactus expert so I can't tell you what it is, but it's not an Opuntia. See pics here for comparison of the Opuntia you mention--it doesn't look like your plant http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/202540/

I agree with ecrane3. take a look at my image and you'll see it is an echinopsis.
