Lots of "shots" ringing out around here also...I know herds need thinned, but it is saddening knowing each shot means a lost life.
Sandy, You shipping "bad dog" to me? lol He and Izzy would get in so much fun together.
Bonnie, glad to hear the "crew" made it to the night stop and can sleep safely on their journey to you.
BonnieB, you have sure been busy. I know you must be tired, but accomplished to finish all you wanted.
We had a decent day yesterday. Needed to do some "window shopping" for some flooring samples that need replaced. Got that all done.
Went to my favorite Garden center, which is now all decked out in Christmas with a winter "fest" in there for kids, santa and lots of goodies.
DH found a Christmas flag we "had" to have. lol They had a huge bus there collecting for the City Mission and it was filled to the brim!
Also had dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse. He had a gift certificate from his birthday, and we had such a nice meal! I had a long iron steak stuffed with portabella
mushroom, and it was SO good. Came with a side of baked potato and broccoli. Had to be careful as almost every meal had peppers in it...including green beans which were cooked with little red peppers. BUT waitress was very helpful.
Not sure what lies ahead for the day...thinking of pulling up living room carpet. DH is watching American Beaver, his new favorite Sunday morning show...then will decide.
Vickie I am thinking of shipping him off!!!!
I am trying to remember who I still owe shawls too and what colors. I have 3 finished that I need to mail out but I can not remember who (MY BAD!!!) I can not find my notes.
I have gotten back into crocheting and I need to know. I do know that I have Lorette's done and Vicki's done
SO if any one else that I promised one too would you please let me know!!!!
Deb wouldn't that display look cute wrapped around under a nice big tree?
What a nice time and meal you had yesterday. Glad all went well with the choosing and no flareups! Rip up the carpet. Oh what is under it?
Sandy what would we do without Andre stories? Oh Deb would be posting them then.
I've been wearing my shawl a lot lately with the colder weather... it will go on vacation again with me this year. Can't thank you enough.
Bright sunny morning here. Yesterday was a nice weather day...
I was so proud of myself last night... went to the annual [Birthday Party] get together at our old house -- I know I've mentioned it in the past...
the menu is always the same ... pasta, which i do not eat [carbs, bad carbs... ] homemade meat balls - [which we fabulous last night -- he must have forgotten the romano cheese in them, because I usually do not like his meatballs] Italian sausage and CAKE. They are very good friends with the local baker in town... he makes wonderful cakes... this one had Chocolate Mousse at the layer filling... I did not have one little taste... OH and don't even get started on this guys cookies... these -- I did not even look at, you gain 5# instantly just looking at them.
I did have 4 glasses or Merlot ... but heck, red wine is good for you.
This was the first family party since the dad and "cousin Tony" passed away... not sure if I mentioned that, but they both passed on the very same day. Heart breaking for that family.
anyways -- it was a good evening, I saw so many that I had not seen in yrs.
I wear my shaw around here all the time, and if I don't have it on...Huck has it! He loves burrowing into it and sleeping.
Terese, glad you had a good evening. Sounds like it was nice time out.
Vicki, under the carpet is a very old hard wood floor. Too old to refinish as it wasn't cared for before we bought the house. Too big of "cracks" in the middle from
house settling. BUT we are trying to take control of the cat issue. This carpet is about...15 years old...gone through 4 kids, 2 dogs, cats, bunnies...and Lord only knows what else. Did I mention it is light tan...NOT a good choice on my part WAY back then.
Thanks for the new thread Sandy. I have a lovely shawl from you as well. Keep it in the office for cool days.
Debbie - my friend has a severe reaction to pepper too. She can't even smell stuff like BBQ sauce with pepper or she gets nauseous
. Sounds like a nice dinner. Helpful server can make all the difference.
Terese - I think I would have skipped the wine and had the cake. lol Is it weird to be back in the home or no biggie at this point?
Vicki - it just seems too early for all the Christmas stuff! We're gonna have an early TG so I bet the retailers are really happy for a longer shopping "season".
Loretta - Chloe was just worried you'd get a sunburn I think. hehehe
Bonnie - just one more item on that long list to tick off. Soon the boys will be at their destination and you'll be with family for the holidays. As each event goes by, you are closer to having your life settle down and back to a lot fewer worries!
I don't have much planned for the day. I need to get out and pick up more sticks & branches. I think I have to cut some of the branches before I will be able to haul them. DH said they were too big for him. The tractor is acting up - really need to get it serviced. (We just spent $550 to have a new starter & Gary put in a new battery. grrr)
Tam - it is also my childhood home. I lived there from 1973 - 1985, 1989 - 2001
It's hard to see it in the condition that it is in. They don't have a lot of money, so many things have not been updated, and really neglected... I guess they do the best they can ... been dealt a bad hand i guess.
One reason we sold to them, as they needed a home. But -- it is what it is... I guess it used to be harder on me, especially when she didn't take care of my flower beds... but they are good people.
Deb anyway you could still varnish or poly the floors to keep liquids from soaking in?
Tam we don't have to have things planned for every day. When I came in from doing the stove. I was thinking I should do nothing and have a partial vacation! LOL There are just so many things I need to get done that have been sitting. Or is it me sitting.
Vicki, on these floors? No, not a chance. We had someone in a before we carpeted to see if we could get them refinished and sealed. He said they were so worn. Original flooring...and this house was built in 1926 I believe. It is very old Victorian or Colonial,
Tam, I had that experience last night with DH eating horseradish across from me. It messed up my sinus big time and eyes started swelling. I have always loved
tacos...and now I can't even cook them as get very very ill. Can't even hold and clean a green pepper.
Patti2 and the boys were underway at 8:30 this morning. Patti said they were all over her last night. I don't know if she will get here before we leave for the ballet as she is stopping to visit a friend along the way. I am leaving a key at the front desk with instructions that the cats be set up in my room and leaving articles of my dirty clothes out so they can smell my presence.
Well I've got a slow cooker filled to make a nice beef stew and some beef cut up for beef & broccoli for dinner. I need to finish folding the laundry and then head outside to pick up the debris from Sandy.
Debbie - I like Vicki's idea! Just to seal off spills & such.
Debbie, can you create a new floor with litter boxes? I am ducking and hiding.
Vicki, the display is really cute. I hope while you have to work these long hours and weeks you are not working overly hard.
Bonnie - I bet those guys will be so happy to see you. Have fun at the ballet. Happy Birthday Claire!
I just went out to rake leaves and had to stop. I think the allergens are being raked. In the back yard - I was freezing and the front - sweating. I thought I could use the leaf blower/vac, but I couldn't find all the parts.
I picked up some artichoke raviolis yesterday. I can't wait to try them. I have some chicken breasts to cook up today. I was able to get my free ham yesterday.
I don't know if the expense of "sanding" and then sealing over is worth moving everything out into the yard...no walking on it for a couple days, and moving it back in, when we are fixing up the house to sell.
No the entire downstairs flooring eventually. Dining room, foyer, living room and small bathroom...kitchen and bathroom might be done down the road.
Just getting estimates and seeing whats out there honestly.
Afternoon everyone. Absolutely a stellar day here weather wise. I was actually doing wood in a T shirt. Got to play with my log splitter too so I am happy. I had never run it without having someone work with me. Took a few minutes to get the feel of it and how to work safely while alone.
Wish I was having turkey BonnieB. You have made me just drooling for a turkey dinner. Hope things went well for you at your church luncheon. How is Casper doing now? Quill just came in to remind to tell you she misses her Mr B and sends him lots of kisses and hugs. Blush, blush.
Looks like I will be buying myself an early Christmas present - need a new oil tank already. Geesh it is just 11 years old and is leaking badly. The guy was in to clean the boiler/furnace and shut down the oil tank. I can't get more oil until I get a new tank.A new one was equal in price to just having the pipes fixed. And since the insurance company expects you to change it out every 15 years or they will not cover you I went with a new tank. Wonder how many people know that? Now that could just be an Ontario law but because I am right on the lake there is also a huge concern from the environmentalists about oil leaks into the lake.Less than a month ago I needed a new water softener. When all was said and done that cost over $900.00 with taxes. Plus all of the smoke alarms gave up the ghost this week.Plus I have to have a plumber in as the infloor heating is not working downstairs. Grrrrr!!!
Sandy I think Diesel and Andre need a play date. Diesel is full of the devil but I am loving it. Please think positive thoughts about my Quill dog, she is not well at all today. Lethargic and won't eat. I don't think she had 1 of those spells she had a few months ago but she is right out of it except when I pick up the leash. She is not missing out on a walk that's for sure.
Speaking of ill dogs how is Izzy Debbie? Wise idea to get some estimates now on the floor coverings - it sure helps when you brainstorm about what to put down. As long as I have dogs I will never have wall to wall carpeting. After all these years of owning dogs I finally smartened up when we were building the house. The floors are either hardwood or tile - easy to clean and keep clean.
Bonnie I am positive the boys will be as excited to see you as you are to see them. Hurrah for Patti2 !!!! Did you take any pics of the ballet?
Need to get off of here, the dizzies are creeping up again. Will be glad to see this ENT specialist - sure wish it was sooner.
OH Sandy, thank you! I so needed that today...Elsie has been picking on me! Imagine that!
I am heading down there in two weeks, so I might just plant myself there the entire time! My Aunt Mary who has been going through cancer treatment is down there for her Grandsons wedding. Her daughter, my cousin, invited me down...and DH said "you are going". DH is staying home with Izzy...and possibly doing these floors while I am gone.
I spent the entire afternoon outside. It was in the low 50s but 'cause I was working, I was comfortable in a long sleeve t-shirt. I picked up a LOT of branches. Didn't get them all but made a good dent in it. I got out my mulching lawn mower and mowed up the leaves so they wouldn't mat down and kill the grass.
I gave the chickens the fat & gristle I cut out of the meat. Oh was it a happy flock of chickens! Except the few who didn't come when I first called. :-)
Debbie - a trip down south sounds wonderful. Wouldn't it be nice to come home to newly done floors!
Melva - I keep thinking about the cold causing a rash. Or maybe you are eating something new? A new soap?
Thought I had posted here this afternoon, but maybe I just composed it in my head and never got here to actually let the message flow from my finger tips.
The Thanksgiving meal went well at church today. Since the meal was all pot luck, and the church furnishing the turkey and ham, we had a good assortment of other dishes and desserts. I was maybe in the last 5 or so in line to get food, and the great thing about that, by the time I sat and ate, there were about 4 o 5 women who finished eating and started clearing the tables, and washing the dishes. I got through in time to grab a dust mop and help with the floor clean up and gathering dish towels and dish cloths to bring home to launder. Worked out well.
Debbie, even if the hardwood isn't good/pretty enough to have them finished to use, sealing them will help with the amount of dust that comes into the house, and will prevent some cool air from getting in through the floors. There is always a benefit to doing something like that. Glad to hear that Izzy is feeling better.
Dianne, I am hoping that the ENT will be able to suggest something that will eliminate or ease the severity of the dizziness. That has got to be uncomfortable, and unpredictible too. So sorry to hear that Quill is not feeling well. Us older gals sometimes just need to slow down and not attempt to do much. Mr. B is sort of bashful about his pictures now. His surgery about a year ago, has had him gaining weight, and he was hoping that Quill would think that he had stayed the same, and she wouldn't ask for any new pictures of him in his mature look photos.
Elsie, I think that whoever said that Chloe was protecting you from sunburn had that absolutely correct. She is such a caring pet, and will bear anything to keep her mamma safe.
Terese, that must be so bad to see your childhood home not being properly cared for. Even if it is friends, and they enjoy having the house, I still don't think I could see the deterioration every time you went. Sort of like seeing a family member whose health is declining.
Tammy, how much beef did you get? I think trimming it before you freeze it was a good idea. DH is talking abou buying a half of a hog. I have been wanting him to buy a baby calf and raise it for our beef. Don't know if that idea has planted itself in his brain or not. Sometimes, it takes awhile for it to take root and grow.
Melva, our weather isn't cold yet, but we are experiencing cooler weather and have been for a couple of weeks. I am having some itchies because of the change in temps. I keep hoping that is what your problem is. Why don't you try adding some oil to your baths/showers to see if maybe that will help you feel better.
Sandy, your pictures are very pretty. I know that Andre enjoys going to the beach even in cooler weather. While we were there last year Mr. B really looked forward to going to the doggie beach.
Bonnie, I am so glad to hear that Patti2 is getting closer and closer. Your boys will be so glad to see you. What is the latest on your DM and her reaction to moving? So did I understand that she will be living in the Destin area and you on the east coast near Daytona?
Well, I have been on the go constantly for the past 2 days, and it seems like it is catching up with me. My eye lids are moving so slowly, I am thinking that I need to close down here and get closer to the bedroom.
Morning everyone! Looks like I am up for the day. Dogs went crazy when the motion light on the south side of the house came on so I got up to look. There were 4 deer starting to lay down on top of the septic bed. One was a male with a huge rack - looks like he escaped again this year. I think the deer for miles around come here to hunker down during hunting season.
Excellent timing BonnieB!!! My mam's Group 4 Women's League with my parents Anglican church used to cater banquets and weddings. There was 1 lady who I will never forget - Mrs. Brett. Mrs. B took it upon herself to wash ALL of the pots and pans that accumulated while preparing the meal.And that was when there were no foil throwaway turkey pans!! She was a down on her luck hard working lady so mam's Group 4 used to make sure she got most of the leftovers to take home to feed her family. Food she would take, money she would not. I can still picture her very clearly up to her elbows in soap suds scrubbing away. I learned to wait tables for these functions at a very early age. When I was in university mam always made sure I was coming home the weekends there were banquets and weddings.All of the meals used to be served 'Home style' and boy did some people take advantage of that!!! My mam usually cooked at least 1 of the turkeys at home plus 4 or 5 pies. It seemed there was always a huge turkey thawing in our bathtub. Jamie my 1 nephew confessed to me a few years ago he thought all grandmas had turkeys thawing in their tub because every time he came there was 1 there. lol
Hope I don't have to start back at square 1 with my sleeping. Dr Death did not get my Rxs back to the local pharmacy in time for me to pickup Friday afternoon. I think she forgets our village pharmacy closes at 5:30 pm on Friday and is not open all weekend.Here's hoping I have them in time for tonight. The new Rx seems to be working - I can get 5 - 51/2 hr sleep. Best of all when I get up to go to the bathroom I can fall right back asleep.
LOL at Chloe Elsie. She sure is a smart kitty.
Debbie how is Shane enjoying his new job? And Miss Izzy????
Missy Quill seems much more alert this morning, still doesn't want to eat though. I just realized that Diesel has dug up the 200 tulip bulbs I just planted.Darn! Well that isn't exactly what I said when I discovered the bulbs sitting on the ground.Blue words certainly filled the air.
Is this Day 6 Vicki?
Time for hot chocolate! Make sure you all do something nice for yourself today ladies!!!
VIcki, I can't believe they are open all day Thursday. Just not right. DD has to go into work at Target at 8:30 p.m. and work til 3:30 a.m. Sleep for a few hours and back into work for Noon and work til til 9:00 or so!
Dianne, we have to get you a camera for those "deer" moments. The girls were here Friday for DDs birthday and Carrie was all excited...yet scared...as a bear was spotted across from their house. She is certain it is going to bust through her patio sliding doors while she is at work. Hope your prescriptions are ready today for you. I am so off my schedule I have to get back on them as swelling is back.
Shane works days and only during the week, so didn't see him during the weekend. Right now he is only working 25 hours a week, but better than none! Can't remember if I said, but he has a girlfriend, and she just happens to be the "older" sister to his friend he was staying with. SOOOOO that put all that in order and made sense as to where he has been.
Izzy is doing better, but she just isn't herself. She is sleeping so much, doesn't greet me coming downstairs in the morning with her toy and just kind of out of sorts. She doesn't seem in pain like she was before, so I hope she is just resting her body. How is Quill doing today Dianne?
Terese, they said 50 here all week also! Sure hope so as I have started getting arthritis in my hands and cold sure hurts them. Dieting the week of Thanksgiving? Make sure you take Thursday off...everyone needs to be thankful and reward themselves for the year!!
OK, going to go put the coffee on...but more wanting ice tea than hot coffee.
Good morning, it is warmer here today, and may get a chance to get out and do some cleanup on a flower bed in front of the house.
Sandy, beautiful picture to start my day. Thanks.
Dianne, several years ago, DH had a hunting dog who has bout 6 months old and he hadn't named him. Said that everything he came up with just didn't suit him. One day, I looked out and he was digging in a flower bed where I had planted spring bulbs, and his name came to me. Digger! That was his name. However naming him did not get the bulbs back in the ground, it took me to do that! So maybe Diesel was celebrating Diggers birthday, or something!
Need to do a bit of straightening today, plus there are bills to pay, etc, etc. Seems never to end.
Dianne - I'm glad Quill is feeling more alert. The whole crew hear is channeling healing thoughts her way (and yours). I love the reminiscence of those childhood banquets. I could just see Mrs B up to her elbows in soapsuds. :-)
BonnieB - I split the beef with friends and it comes already frozen. So one of my problems is that it comes in larger amounts than we eat so I have to defrost, cut up and refreeze. I'm taking a few of the t-bone steaks to my mom's for Thanksgiving. She doesn't eat poultry. When she was growing up on the family farm, she earned her spending money by butchering the chickens. It left a lifetime dislike for any poultry. But she loves steaks so that's what we'll have! I'm gonna make her a rustic pear tart. She's got a salycilate sensitivity and has very few food items she can eat. I found this recipe that works, as long as I skip the honey glaze & cinnamon. Its still good.
Loretta- that sounds like a prudent thing to do. Maybe if Chloe saw you had sunscreen she'd be less protective of you with that sunshine. :-) I hope the week at work goes fast - nice that its short isn't it?
Sandy - oh my does Andre look like he's having fun! Wonderful photos. I especially love the second one. I would think he would be leaving salt & sand in the house & car if you didn't rinse him off though.
Debbie - do let us know how Izzy is feeling. Is she recovered from the stinky side affect of her gastronomical issues?
I've got my TG plans made. I'm spending Thurs with Dad. We'll go out for our meal. Then Fri I will have the steaks at my mom's house. I'm meeting Maypoplaurel on Sat. I'm so excited. She'll be with her SO, and newlywed DD & DSIL. I've been chatting with her over on the recipe forum for quite a while. She's an amazing cook.
Debbie Layla is doing great.Layla's friends and neighbours had a fund raiser to pay for her surgery. They raised so much money they were able to pay off the surgery completely and establish a Layla Fund for other dogs in the same predicament. Layla is Diesel's sister. She was hit by a car a few weeks ago and they didn't find her for 42 hours.
Looks like another gorgeous day out there. Think I will split some more wood as I am a little short on kindling.Waiting for the plumber to call. I don't want to strike out with the dogs and miss his call. The dogs are not pleased with this disruption in their morning schedule.
Time for some breakfast - Shreddies sound good.
I still can't believe I saw that flyer on FB...from a girl that lives in Texas, who saw it and reposted a "lost dog" poster. I just looked at that face and saw Canada, and knew it was Diesels sister. It was just so strange! So wonderful they all came out to help her like that and establish the new fund to help others. I know I wouldn't have Izzy now if it wasn't for the kindness of DG family with all her past issues!
The last time I added oil to the bath, I wasn't able to get out without help...Phil thought it was funny...me, not so much.
Tam, the only thing different that I can think of, was my using the new blanket.
It does seem to be better, so maybe it is going away, I hope...
Melva, look for a product containing some coconut oil, or palm oil, of just plain baby oil, and instead of adding it to the bath (aware of the slip and fall issue) when I am through with my shower, I add the oil to a wash cloth, and then run that wash cloth over my whole body. That way, you don't get very much, but enough to satisfy the dry skin issues, and wahla, soon you will have smooth hydrated skin, and most of all the itchies from that issue go away too.
Oh, dear, I guess I missed the issue with Layla. So glad that the poor dear got the surgery and help she needed, and I assume that she will be well on her way to recovery.
I went outside this morning, and saw a chippie running across the yard, the drive way, and in under DH's truck. Immediately there were 4 dogs under the truck after it. (Does this sound familiar to anybody). Well, they all were scratching and digging up in the motor housing for the chippie, who was hiding there. I immediately called them all out, whacked each one with my leather gloves and scolded them. They are now laying on the front porch, and if I go outside, they are all treating me like I have plague. Guess the leather gloves sting. Maybe that is a cheap method of deterring them from more wire chewing and pulling. Called the neighbor next door to see if he has any live traps. Will see if I can borrow them, and we will see how many chippies we have residing here.
While I was talking to the wife of the neighbor, she was looking out her front window and saw a skunk walking across the front yard of another neighbor. Oh, dear heaven, I sure hope it stays over that way.
Sandy loved the second picture of Andre! I think it should be called the Giant bathtub!
Dianne so glad Quill is feeling better. You have fun with that wood splitter but be careful.Was so good to hear about Layla and the Layla Fund is also wonderful. What caing people there are.
BonnieB I can just see the chippie running with a pack of dogs behind. At least you know have proof it is not the dogs just being destructive.
Oh Debbie a Trip! You go and enjoy. Let him do those floors while you are gone.
Was off and runnig this morning to town. Bank, get my prescriptions and some groceries. On the way home stopped at the post office for some stamps. DH was getting ready to go back north.
He stopped at the store on the way home and I didn't even recognize my own husband.
With our bright lights in the store his hunting beard was pure white and he had a camo hat on and a orange sweatshirt! I never see him in that sweatshirt. LOL Besides he never comes there! He had a couple of questions and to tell me about his deer. A very nice 4 point buck.
So far I have the refridge freezer cleaned out and will start on the small chest freezer next. I need the room and cleaning them will do the trick since I didn't last year.
Better get going and get it done. Where is the help when you need it.
Vicki, you forgot the "Debbie don't read this" about the deer. Sigh.
DH said to me last night, after two days of shopping for flooring "I don't think I am quite ready to do this!" After getting me all excited and that its dead in the water and i am ticked. Ya just don't do that to a woman.
WAY back in 1995, when we got our first computer, I met a woman on what was called Parent Soup on AOL. It was a parent forum, and had lots of really fun stuff. AND it was a live chat type of thing. Anyway, I have been talking to Shannon since then. Although I am going to FL for my aunt and for a wedding, I will finally get to meet Shannon face to face. She really is like a sister to me. Matter of fact she was in the dumps last night and we talked for hours...and I hate talking on the phone! I was one of the first to know she was pregnant with her youngest daughter Kaitlin, and actually talked to her while in labor at home with a midwife. That little baby is going to be 15 next Sunday. lol And her oldest daughter just got married...so we have come a long way with our 'internet friendship".
Sorry Deb I did leave out the bad details and didn't post any pictures here or on FB.
That was very bad of DH to get you all excited about flooring! Very Bad! Oh you get to meet someone you have been friends with for years! How wonderful is that?
Gotta go and find that freezer. Its not getting done sitting here.
Well, I tell you this day and DS and his SO (I know I said I wasn't letting her come here) worked all day today on various things. DS cleaned the laundry room, while his SO cleaned and reorganized my pantry. I worked on paying bills and getting the paper work tamed. Sure felt good at the end of the day to know that all that work was accomplished.
Debbie, is Izzy feeling better tonight? Glad you are getting a few days away, and to get to meet a cyber friend, that is so great. Don't read my post to Vicki, skip over that.
Vicki, DH doesn't hunt deer, but we have had 4 taken off our farm just in the last week. One a trophy. Sounds like you got all the freezer space free and good for you. I certainly hate that job.
Elsie, so did you get a sunburn this afternoon? hehe that Chloe is preventing that from happening.
Dianne, so how much wood did you get split? You be careful with the splitter, they can be dangerous. Watch for knot holes in the wood, as they can cause the log to jump out of the splitter, something to do with the funny way they grew that hole.
Melva, how is the itchies?
Terese, tell me again when you surgery is? I though I had put it on the calendar, but don't see it.
Sandy, did you all get rain today? I hope the weather improves. My DTS is coming to Florida again this year, from mid December till the end of March. No, I am not going. Her DH is going to be with her most of the time.
Tammy, are you still on that diet, or have you decided to do something else? So glad that you are getting in a work out. How is the office help?
Well, gonna go with my neighbor to Louisville tomorrow to a knit shop. She is a knitter, and has a roomful of yarn, so have no idea if this is a buying trip for her, or something else. She asked me to ride along,and have lunch somewhere. We always have a good time.
Will check in early then will be gone till early afternoon.
terese, here's hoping that you can come home the same day. I am always more comfortable at home in my own bed. But if it is necessary, I am always glad to be where they know what they are doing and can make me comfortable.
Figured I'd check in as I was getting some tape. I use boxes to divide things in the freezers. Needed some more boxes and hope that makes it easier. Yes I am working on the last freezer. They are showing this episode of Love it or List it again in an hour. Just enough time to finish.
I watch a lot more HGTV than I should. THose shows are addictive. I still record House Hunters International but am starting to get a bit tired of it. I guess the novelty has worn off. We do watch the original - This Old House.
Yesterday I thought Pixel had gotten out of my office and was running loose. Called DH up from his shop after searching everywhere. I couldn't find Scirocco either. She's feeling so much better she is back to stalking PIxel. The two of use went through the house from attic to basement, two or three times each. I finally checked for Pixel outside - yep. I'd forgotten I'd let her out. But still - no Scirocco! DH finally found her. She was under the sheet we've put on the bed in case she ack's again. LOL I said "I guess that defeats the whole purpose of the sheet" and Gary said "I don't think Scirocco would agree". What a great hiding place! She was snuggled between the pillows so you couldn't even see her outline.
BonnieB - sounds like you are all set for Turkey Day!
Forgot to answer BOnnieB's question about the diet. I'm sticking with it 90%. I've lost 5lbs which is great. I am eating a huge quantity of vegatables, some fruit. I've not had beans for a few days but had beef instead. But just a couple ounces a day. I plan on having a tofu stir fry for dinner tonight.
Good morning. It is sunny and supposed to be in the 60's today. I am riding along with a neighbor to a yarn/knit shop today in Louisville. The neighborhood is an older one, and offers some very unique diners and coffee shops. We will have lunch before heading home.
Tammy, when you can't find a pet, it puts your heart in your throat doesn't it. Well, she chose a good hiding place!
Vicki, you can clean up the kitchen but don't have to worry about the freezer! (ducking and running). I have to do the same thing.
Tam, Lexi does that hiding to us, and won't come when called. Last time she was up on the shelf behind our closet door!! Huck is so mean to her and Daisy, they hid when he gets on a tear. (as I type this he just chased Daisy up here on my desk).
BonnieB, I still talk about that diner we stopped at on way to your house. Betty has also...best sandwich I have EVER had, and it was a simple Club. One of those bites that brought back a flood of memories along with flavor. I have tried to replicate with no luck!
The leaf truck woke me up nice and early...well 7:30 was early today as I was up late. Last day for leaf pickup so they have to get the village done.
The news here is my kids have all pretty much bailed on Thanksgiving, and think I will do it on Sunday for them as that is easier. Not sure what we are going to do
as yet...but I will be darned if I am going to make two complete dinners. DH won't wait til Sunday, wants it Thursday...and Shannon works Sunday. Grrrr!
Deb cook Thanksgiving for your DH and make it potluck for the kids on Sunday. They bail they can feed each other. Tell them what you are making and they can bring the rest. I won't have any company until the weekend and they might just get homemade pizza. Which is fairly easy to make and not near as messy making.
All I remember is we turned down a "Main Street" and it was on the right side. Parking lot right after building. It was a group of shops, restaurant was last one, and had two windows across the front. Boths on each side and tables in middle. They cut the ham & fresh turkey right there for the sandwich, it was not deli meat.
We were not 10 minutes from your house.
Vicki, there is something going on with the girls. I don't know if there is marital problems with the oldest, I don't know what is going on...but everything is always a secret and whisper behind my back. They are making me paranoid. Carrie came in and was all over DH with hugs and kisses and I got "hi mom". No doubt Shannon has said "Mom said" about something...and started a war I don't know about.
Deb so sorry about the girls. They should just grow up. If one is having troubles I hope they can fix it. Is that the one who's DH is away from home so much? Ignore them like there is nothing wrong. It is their choice how they are acting and they do know how to hurt you.
That is exactly what I do Vicki. And yes, the one who's hubby travels all the time. Now that he is home after the year of travel, she is annoyed with him being around and not being nice. They definitely know how to hurt me, and sadly, I am very vulnerable when Carrie gets involved. I told DH I just wanted to cook Thursday and be done with it, they are not going without and I think just want to go shopping Thanksgiving night. BUT again, it is a game and not saying.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing the right thing w/TG but then I read Debbie's tale and decide its the right thing. Thanksgiving is supposed to be about taking the time to reflect on what we have in our lives that is good and for which we are thankful. And to share this with those we hold most dear. I want my folks to know I care about them and want to spend time with them. Its awfully difficult with the two of them being divorced and not wanting to even hear the others' name let alone spend time together. I split my time as evenly as humanly possible and do what they want to do.
My wonderful DH supports me in this and so we've spent more than half of our TG's apart, especially in recent years. When my folks are gone, I will celebrate with him, either by hosting a dinner at our home, hopefully with friends or join friends in their homes.
Debbie - Make that one dinner & enjoy it. Ask all who attend to bring a list to share of what they are most thankful for in the last year. Maybe even take a few minutes to talk about each ones' list. It sounds like your family can sometimes focus on their own problems and not give enough thought to supporting each other and being thankful for each other. Just don't stress over not trying it twice. Those kids are grown and should be acting like grown ups.
Tam, not out of line and exactly the way I was thinking!
AND DS just said "Can I bring Karen for dinner Thursday?" SO...thats good.
I really think that if the kids want to do dinner with their in-laws...that is GREAT. Spouses deserve equal time with families, I have no problem with it. BUT
don't expect me to make another meal...so you don't miss out on moms cooking. It is a compliment to they like it...but...switch holidays. Do one family Thanksgiving, one for Christmas!!
Tam, my DH has 7 siblings. So his parents always had kids and family with them...and DH did for me, what yours does for you. He gave up holidays with his family so my Mom would have dinner with us. I was only child and she had no family up here but us. I have even tried to get DH to go have dinner now with his siblings and parents...but he won't.
Thank you all so much for your input...and making me feel better!
I'm so glad it came across as intended. And thank goodness my mom doesn't care for the traditional turkey dinner or I'd have to do two in one day! I actually tried to please everyone one year. I had dinner at mom's, dinner at my boyfriend's house (Thurs) and then another dinner on Fri with Dad. Ugh was I stuffed for a long time after that!
It does not pay to try to please everyone. So glad you are making it clear to the kids they have your support in their choice, if they need to go to their in-laws.
I've been a better girl at work today. Yesterday just could not get into the mood to be productive! I felt like Vicki facing that freezer. lol
Any one want a DOG!!!
I am ready to box him up and ship him out!!!!
What has he done now you ask??
Start with he stole my breakfast
Get into my crochet project and destroyed the yarn(think he was a cat in his last life)
Stole and ate a persimmon that I had picked to eat.
Flipped the eggee over the back fence 3 times.
Destroyed another garden hose.
And is being a pest!!!
You said you wanted to exercise...swimming, going to the gym...so Andre' is just, helping!
The hose...he thought that was a snake!!! He saved you!
Eggee over the fence, that exercise issue again...
Eating breakfast & persimmon...it wasn't a balanced breakfast, he was looking out for your well being.
Yeah! Thats it! he is innocent!
When Izzy gets on her Eggee rant, it is hysterical, I miss her
playing with that as much.
She is sleeping a lot. Vet said it is not from meds, could be from the arthritis or just not feeling good. BUT she is eating better.
I did find a blue mouse in the back yard...cat toy, not a little one cold and shivering.
Sandy, I like your DM but please don't send her here.
Tammy you are always the voice of reason. I was going to say sanity but that might be pushing it. hehe
Debbie, I sure hope you have a nice holiday with whomever shows up.
Someone posted on a thread about corn I started in 2003 - I find it too funny.
I plan on having a nice quiet day here with Chloe. I tried to get a free turkey breast from the grocery but I got a ham instead.
My parents are coming up in December for my nieces college graduation.
Needless to say I am looking forward to the long weekend. It is only Tuesday and it already feels like the longest week.
I started watching a show on A&E about the Miami airport. Interesting stories behind the scenes. They have drug sniffing dogs, bomb sniffing dogs and food sniffing dogs. Then they have money sniffing dogs. You are only allowed a certain amount of cash when entering the US. Right at the top of my Christmas list - money sniffing dog. Maybe that is the only thing on the list.
Good evening. I was gone most of the day, had a good lunch out and when I got home, sat and rested (like riding in the car all day was not rest) and then told DH that since we didn't eat lunch till later, I wasn't hungry. Bless his heart, he went to the fridge and pulled out some left overs and heated them and said no need to make anything. I may decide to keep him another day or two! hehe.
Debbie, I am mentally going over every town within a 10-15 minute drive from my house and trying to think of where you were. So far, I am coming up without anything, but I assure you that with that running through my head that I will awaken at 3:00 a.m. and sit straight up in bed with the answer to the riddle. I sure wish I had your telephone number so I could call you when it happens!!
Sandy, you can ship Andre to me, I can keep him busy for a few days to give you a break, but I will decline your mother, as I really don't need any mental challenges for me to solve, and she seems like a pretty sharp person and would probably embarrass me with a question I couldn't answer.
Elsie, how do you get a free ham or turkey at the grocery? If there is a trick, or a secret, please share so I can get one too. I have a turkey in the freezer, so don't need that, but would love a good ham! Oh, sorry that you are going to be by yourself on Thursday.
Tammy, you have described the kind of Thanksgiving that we are supposed to have. I think we need to stop to reflect on what we are thankful for, and I am sure that most would be surprised to see the list of things that we have.
To Debbie, Tammy, or anybody who are from families who have divorced parents, or grown children who need to visit two houses. I think it is time for you to sit down with the parents and explain that it isn't a good idea for you to do two households in the same day. Maybe work out a system where you can have Thanksgiving with one parent (family) one year, and Christmas with the other parent (family the next year. That way, maybe they will volunteer to do a later holiday meal, so that you wouldn't be stuffed with 2 meals.
When our parents were living, we would go to my DM-DF on Thanksgiving, and then to DH's parents on maybe the weekend of that same week. Then Christmas we would go to DH's parents on Christmas day, and to my parents maybe on Christmas Eve or the day after. The next year we would switch holidays, and it got so it worked out well, and even if we didn't have a traditional meal with turkey or ham, whatever food was served was good, and we enjoyed it. After DH's DF passed, his DM had 11 children, and we would all gather and bring a pot of soup. She loved potato soup and said that she would prefer soup to turkey, so we turned it into a soup and sandwich affair. Half of the families would bring soup, the other half would bring sandwiches, and she would furnish the dessert.
So holidays aren't really about what you eat, it is who you are with and how thankful you are that you get to be together at some point in the holiday week.
BonnieB, our grocery stores give you a free turkey or ham if you spend so much money between two dates. The one store lowered the amount after hurricane Sandy - I thought that was very nice. So now I have two hams. I will be quite content to be with Chloe - she doesn't like football either.
I am making an apple clafoutis for my dad today and will put together all the ingredients to make my mom a pear tart.
I have decided to drive into State College tomorrow morning and have a relaxing evening at home with Gary.
I just hope its not a stressful day at work. We're trying to launch our products into production and getting the
needed materials is just ridiculous! We were really tight on one item but I could see how we could do it. They pushed
out their delivery and have not told us yet when they will actually ship! Ugh!
Good luck with that schedule of yours today Sandy.
Good morning, going out this morning to the library, and then a stop by the pharmacy and then on to the grocery to pick up just a few items. It looks sort of cloudy out, but the WL's don't mention any kind of percipitation.
I have a hair appt. at 10:30, just getting this wild head of hair trimmed up. It looks like an afro when I get up in the morning... I look like a wild woman!
Then over to store to get rest of supplies for tomorrows dinner, come home and cook the squash, pies and get the stuffing prepared. Has to sit out over night to
"stale". I put the turkey in the fridge on Saturday, it is still pretty frozen! Grrr! have to get giblets out.
Trying to decide if I am going to make pies or purchase from Harper's. Love theirs but didn't order, so they may be out.
Morning! Was foggy last night driving home and couldn't see where to make my turns. But made it home and hardly any fog there. Was going to go to the store early this morning but still seemed foggy. So am waiting. Just wanted to beat the main crowd. If I spend $10 more I get a free 8# turkey or larger and pay the difference. Would have that for Xmas.
Have pork thawing and will make all the trimming with that for supper tonight. Hopefully DH will be home if not I will eat like a Queen.
I do think I will join you all at Elsie's if DH doesn't come home! I do prefer ham!
We are all caught up at work. Have to look for things to do. So I ran register last night and the other girl cleaned the mats and the floor really good behind the counters. Plus we cleaned the counters! Then she swept the floor(she likes the walking) and we washed them. Told her a few things she could do today if she was comfy doing it. Told her to tell the other AM that I said she could.
Tam here's hoping you have a stressless day today!
Deb go for the boughten pies if they still have some. I have a cherry pie in the freezer I will be baking.
BonnieB just be careful out in the sotres as you know they will all be nuts! What is your brine recipe? since I will have a small turkey for Xmas I might try brining.
The other night my flashlight wasn't working too good. Last night hardly at all. We have lights but I need it to check inside the stove. Got in the house and looked at the batteries and here one was starting to corrode. Went to my battery drawer and grabbed 2 others and one of those were also. Can we say I don't use that size very often! But all is good now and it is working.
Better go out and let Ty have a romp and I will check the stove.
Morning everyone! Bright sunnny but fairly chilly morning this morning.
Diesel and I have been for a walk. Poor Quill has pulled up limping on one of her legs so I made her stay at home while we walked. She was not a happy girl but I am worried about her hips. Diesel doesn't understand she is an old dog and flattens her every time she turns around while out walking. My biggest fear is she is not going to be able to get up 1 time when he hits her. There is no malicious intent with Diesel he is just being a puppy and Quill is an old arthritic gal. I am very proud of her and the way she has responded to Diesel.
Going to move some more wood this morning then I can't do anything else until the guys come to cut and split the wood I have in lengths for next year. The infloor heating in the downstairs is not working and I can really feel it now the temp is falling. Waiting for the plumbers - grrrr. Last week was hunting so there was hardly a male to find for miles and there are no female plumbers in the area or I would have called. Perry called me from the camp on Friday and said sometime this week. I just called and left a message reminding him I won't be home tomorrow. Tomorrow I go for my mammio - haven't been since 2008 so I think it is about time. Glad my appointment is at 11 am as it has been dense fog here every morning this week. Going to attempt to drive myself into Kingston tomorrow but have an old neighbour on standby just in case.
Don't fret everyone about the woodsplitter. I am very respectful of the machine and its power. Have been splitting wood for over 40 years - sure miss Warren though. He used to split it by hand right up until he was diagnosed with cancer and his back got so bad. What a guy! Not many 70 year olds could have kept up with him. I can't split by hand at all - I am terrible at it.
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow wherever you are and with whomever you are sharing the day. All of us here on HWYD have so much to be thankful for and I think sometimes I lose sight of that. I sure am thankful to have all of you here supporting me this last year. I honestly couldn't have done it some days without your encouragement.
Was wondering about our Bonnie and her boys too Debbie.Hope Shane and his friend don't disappoint you tomorrow by not coming. Have you met the young lady before? I can sure understand what Jenna is feeling right about now. For 6 years Warren was gone from Sun afternoon till late Friday night for 10 mon of the year and then in the summer was busy travelling doing shows for the SG business. When he retired I thought I was going to kill him the first few months he was home. I was just not used to having someone right there all of the time, questioning me, wondering why I was talking on the phone, the whole 9 yards. It was hard - very hard and took a lot of adjusting on both of our parts. Sending positive thoughts that Jenna will remember how wonderful their time was together before DH was called away for work. Jenna has a lot on her plate right now too, right? Isn't she taking a college course? Heck that alone says Stress!!
BonnieB I love the idea of soup and sandwiches. I am a big soup lover and make it often. That is the one thing I will take the time to make now. I think my poor oven is lonely - it has hardly been used for months. I am positive I heard the cookie sheets calling out "Remember me" when I was in the laundry room yesterday.
Enjoy your visit with your parents Tam. What a great daughter you are!
Elsie I bet you and Chloe have a fantastic day together - no football sounds good to me too. Your talk of ham made me hungry for one... think I will check out the freezer and see if there is one lurking there.
Vicki all geared up for the long work week? Do you always work the late shift?
Terese are your boys getting together with you and DH for dinner sometime over the Thanksgiving holiday ? How is Bud doing? His legs still fairly OK?
Melva glad to read you are less itchy. What are you up to for Thanksgiving?
Ok need some breakfast. I have to take 1 medication that I can't have dairy products for 4 hours either before or after - good thing I am awake between 4 or 5 am.
Make sure you all do something nice for yourself this Thanksgiving!
Good Morning... Foggy here. think it should warm up nicely for the next 2 days.
Probably just get in my work out, and diddle around the house today.
as for who to spend the holidays with and when... growing up in a family that works in the air line industry
you rarely get to do holidays on holidays.
When my mother still lived in IL, [they moved June of `99] I did all the holidays at her house, knowing she would only be in the area for a few more yrs.
If DH was home, he came with...
With the In Laws... we celebrated when DH and FIL was home... and now that he has passed [12/99] MIL is welcome to come with us anywhere we go.
The past 2 yrs, I've had Thanksgiving here. small and quiet, just our family.
But Thanksgiving is always on thanksgiving... if the kids are not available... they can have left overs when they get home.
Family Christmas is about the same... Christmas Day is here, at home [since mom moved to AZ] if the kids want to spend it here, they are more than welcome. We generally do an "extended family" get together either at our home or my Uncles house... who ever is available on that day... shows up. [our extended family is down to about 12 now]
when there are marriages and divorces that divide the family in so many pieces... you can only do so much to get everyone together. I try to keep things as stress free as possible ... when stress is involved, no one has fun.
I am also cooking ham. Dh seems to prefer it and it's easier than a turkey.
Dianne -- Buddy is doing great. He still takes off, running like the wind, chasing squirrels - and does not end up lame in the evening.
I have him on 1 Dasuquin a day.
and he is back jumping up on my bed, which is pretty high off the floor... so, all in all, for 9 and what he's been thru... he's doing great.
Good evening, made a turkey pot pie for supper and a salad. DH is still out to the garage cutting some plexiglass for a neighbor. If he doesn't come in soon, I will eat my pot pie hot, thank you!
Went to the grocery today, and it was WILD. I just hurried through and picked up the things I needed, and then out the door.
DS had a water line break and by the time the plumber came and did his thing, it was too late (she said) to go to the hospital. So may be on call for tomorrow morning to take her. Don't have anything planned until afternoon.
Oh, DH just came in, so gonna put the supper on the table.
Wow Dianne! If that works for Quill, let me know when you need more. I am sure we could do better with US cost + shipping than you got there!
Was the best day of the week. I got in a really good workout. (Why is it so hard to do and then feel so good when done?) We finally heard from the vendor - answer wasn't what we'd hoped but at least we know what we'll get from them. I cut out a little early and made my dad & his wife an apple clafoutis and Gary a nice big pan of apple crisp. I'll make the pear tart for mom at her house Fri so its nice and fresh.
The house smells nice.
BonnieB - glad you survived that trip to the zoo!
Debbie - only do the pies if you enjoy cooking 'em. I vote for simple & fun.
Dianne - our deer hunting (by rifle) starts Mon. I hope you get your heat fixed soon.
Terese - I didn't know your family was in the airline industry! Your parents?
Vicki - I hope its a nice easy day at work tomorrow.
Sandy - I hope your TG with family is a good one. How was the pound cake? Or is that for tomorrow?
Loretta - TGIW! :-)
OK - I'm gonna make myself another tofu stir fry. It was remarkably good last night. I want to use up some of the veggies before I go.
(I am going to recommend this diet to anyone trying to trim down a bit! I don't follow exactly but eat LOTS and LOTS of veggies. I have
not had a craving for a snack at night since I started. And have lost 6lbs in a little over a week).
Dianne so glad you found it for Quill and I hope it helps her. I remember when we got Dawson and we'd go outside our other dog at the time was an outside dog and he'd grab her tail and just hold on. Poor old girl but she never snapped at him. I work all evenings except for tomorrow. That is all afternoon.
Tam I can smell your house. Ahhhhh! I have never had tofu. Maybe someday.
Elsie glad you are having a 4 day weekend.
BonnieB do you use pie crust or biscuit for the pot pie?
Pork is cooked and in the fridge. Gravy made and in the fridge. Dressing is cooking. It is finally getting where I want it. Added a bit too much liquid. Made yukon gold potatoes with carrots and rutabaga in it. Oh my is it good. Was going to try sweet tators but they rotted on me. Hope DH likes it. I don't see why not as he eats them all in other things. I will definetely make this again. Was going to make a cherry pie but there is no room in the fridge. I can squeeze in the other stuff but a pie is a bit too much.
when Ty and I were outside working this morning. I started getting dizzy. Putting head down didn't help much. So I waited a few minutes and staggered a bit to the house or it felt like it anyway. Any hunters watching must of thought I was drunk early in the morning! Ended up taking a nap and feel fine now. Glad it wasn't a full blown episode.
Woohoo! The dressing is finally done. Think I will try to make something special for breakfast since I won't be here for lunch tomorrow. I don't know but cinnamon rolls sure sound good! I mean real ones not biscuit dough ones. Guess it will depend on when I get up in the morning.
I am so ready to watch the Wed. night TV shows. I hardly ever see them.
Vicki - get extra firm tofu when you decide to try it. It doesn't really have a lot of flavor. Picks up whatever you have it with.
I'll be watching TV with you tonight. But I'm watching recorded shows. Always weeks behind the real world. :-)
I think I'll have a glass of wine. Its not on the diet but its a health food afterall. (In moderation.)
>>your family was in the airline industry! Your parents?
Tam -- FIL and DH. with Jim's vertigo issues, he been on medical leave since 2007.
FIL worked for American as a Professional Flight Engineer ... forever. he started at AA in 1959. worked for them for 48 yrs.
What a day!!!!
Took Andre to the groomers, stopped and filled up the car just before the price jumped. Went by the bakery but the pound cakes where still in the oven. Stopped by Walgreen's to get some Arizona tea. Went home.
DM and I left home about 11pm, went by and picked up the pound cake for tomorrow. Went by Hobby Lobby as we where too early for DM's doctor appointment(spent to much money) Went to doctors office, everything is very good. Stopped and get food then picked up Andre. On the way home the not so DM said I need to get to picture frames for the pictures I plan to give my Aunt and Uncle----so back to Hobby Lobby and spent way to much money again.
Then I was trying to print out some more pictures and printed small pictures on large paper---DARN!!!!
Well, back home from chaos in town! DH volunteered to take me shopping when he got out of work at 12:30, so I did not say NO! Haven't been 100% so
it was a bit help, except we left at 2:00 and just got home at 7:00! Have the turkey giblets cooking to get my broth, the onions and celery are simmering, and the squash...which I tried to cut earlier and almost slit my arm...are now in the oven roasting. The rest waits for morning!
Dianne, I agree with Tam, next time you need that for Quill ...let me know and we will get it sent over to you much cheaper!!
I had a surprise. Had a pre-sale black Friday sale when we were at Target, and DD was also working...so DH got me a little Nikon camera that fits in my pocket instead of this 5 lb monster around my neck. That way on the trip I can take it to the beach much easier if I go. That will be my Christmas gift I am sure...and fine by me.
AND...took all of your advice, and bought the pies! AND DH said...if the girls want pies on Sunday...and they don't show up with them...thats their problem!!!
We picked up a small turkey...more for the price than thought of cooking on Sunday. BUT it is there for back up incase extras show up tomorrow and eat the 20 lb one...which I highly doubt!!
Waving to all, Have to put my feet up for a bit...
Well the turkey pot pie was delicious. We had a salad with it, and that was all we needed.
Vicki, I make the crust, like a pie crust but don't use as much shortening. I will send you the brine recipe, as probably no one else here is interested in it. It can be used for other meats, and they say venison is excellent brined. Don't know as I don't eat that meat!
Elsie, don't you know that when we visit cyberally, we don't take up much room, so need for you to move, unless you just want a bigger place.
Dianne, I am thinking the meds you bought are sort of like glucosomine for the arthritis? I am another who would be willing to order and send it to you to save on the cost.
Debbie, how many people are you expecting, a 20 pound bird? I think we fed 40 at church with a 20 pound bird and a 10 pound ham. OF course lots of other dishes too. Great on the camera, hope it takes good pictures.
terese, the airline industry has surely changed, or at least the one that consumers see, since the 1990's even.
Sandy glad you got the pound cake, and the 2 trips to Hobby Lobby sounds like something you may want to only do once a month. Hehe. Bet Andre is a pretty dude after the grooming.
Tammy when are you leaving for you folks? DH just said we would be doing 2 dinners tomorrow. Ugh! I will eat a little at each place, hope to have some fruit or salads so that it won't all be heavy food.
Well, I am getting sleepy, and it is only 9:00 here, but I am going to turn the tv on in the bedroom and hope that I can watch a little tv before falling asleep. If I go to sleep now, I will be up so early.
BonnieB, Normally we have at least 9...but up to 12 for dinner. My boys, farm boys they are, eat SO much! We normally get about a 24 lb bird, and have leftovers for usually a large turkey pot pie and a night of turkey & biscuits. Side dishes are the stuffing, (which has the sausage, apples, raisins, onions & celery), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, corn, green bean casserole and cranberrys & rolls. Then pies!
Even Carrie, who wears a size 2...keeps up with the men on Thanksgiving and packs it away!
Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your day will be wonderful!
I enjoyed catching up with you, especially reading about your meals. As usual, I'll be baking a pumpkin pie to celebrate with you... and I will bring it to Loretta's!LOL
Debbie, you must be so happy to have Shane at TG dinner with Karen...do you know her? tell us more!
Vicki, so you are working today...I hope it's nice and quiet so you won't have to work too much. Your meals sound so yummy.
Sandy, I love your pictures! Does Andre like the pound cake? Silly me, of course he does!LOL
BonnieB, I admire so much your work at the church. You are such a special lady!
Tam, your TG plans are wonderful! You are such a good daughter! I'd like to hear about your diet.
Dianne, I feel for poor Quill. I hope the new meds will help her limping.
Terese, ham sounds wonderful ! Will you be working today?
I can't wait to hear about your TG today! For me it will be just digging in the garden and watching TV.
Have fun everyone!
I've got to pack the car and I'm ready go this morning. I'm bringing my mom some of the steaks in my freezer.
I'll bring a dessert to Loretta's as well. That's the best part of the meal IMO. :-)
Adina - I read about the diet in a book called "Eat to Live". You are supposed to stick with a strictly vegan diet for 6wks and then add in meats & dairy in small amounts. It apparently will reverse diabetes & heart disease. I'm doing a modified version but following fairly closely. The simple way to explain it is for each day you are supposed to eat at least: 1pound of raw greens, 1 pound of cooked veggies, 1c of beans (or tofu), 1oz of raw nuts or seeds and 4 servings of fruit. You are limited to 1T of oil, 1 serving of starchy veggie (or whole grain). No processed foods. I just focus on eating as much veggies as I can. I get so full I have no appetite for other foods. It was a little disturbing to my digestive system (as in you don't want to be in a closed room). But that cleared up in just a couple days.
Adina -- No, I am not working today. My job is "seasonal - part time" - so I really only work from April 10th or so, until October 15th.
on the weather front... should be 62° with a chance of rain tonight... think that is what ushers in the cold, as tomorrow and the weekend are mid-30's to 40's.
I guess, all in all, not bad for this time of year.
Was up til Midnight finishing a few things and got in bed wide awake! SO dragging my tail this morning.
Keep our dear Bec No Va in your prayers. She has now also lost dear little Thor, only 5 years old. Thor passed in his sleep. Such a hard time for her between
illness, and now Sampson & Thor within days of each other.
I have coffee...I have to make breakfast...and get that dang bird in the oven!!
Happy Thanksgiving, I am so very thankful for each and every one of you!!!
Oh no, not Thor too! I am so sorry, Beck!
I am going to cook half a turkey breast we'll have broccoli and vegetables and whatever else I find. Going to make some dressing...I watched an Italian chef make it using sour cream in it...that sounds good so I am going to try that.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I swear I can smell turkeys cooking in the air. Makes me hungry for some.
Absolutely stellar day today although I did take time to watch some of the Philly Dog Show on TV.
Safe travels Tam.
Quill's pills have already been shipped. I looked around and couldn't find anything cheaper or a faster delivery. They turned out to be about $1.00 per pill which is a small amount if they will help. I sure have heard positive things about them so am hoping my sweet girl will get some assistance. Quill is so stubborn - she will not stay at home when I walk Diesel. She might be 40 paces behind us but she is coming no matter what.Gotta admire that spirit!
(Bec) I am so sorry to hear of Thor and Sammy's passing.Holding you close to my heart.
Bec, add my condolences to those of others. Just no words to express the sadness of your double loss. ((hugs)).
Well, I am stuffed, probably better than any of the turkey I had today. Not only did we go to DH's cousin's house, we also went to his DN's house. One was at noon, the other at 5:00. We both said we were not going to eat at the second house, but you know of course we did. The DN had a dessert that was just absolutely delicious. It was a bought prepared one, but ooooh, so good. Red velvet cake, then topped with a layer of cheese cake on top. I told the DN that it was better than s** you know.
Hope that you all had an equally good day. I am not ready to even think about turkey or ham for a long time, but you know that Christmas is approximately 27 days away! I wish we could celebrate Canada's Thanksgiving, it makes so much more sense than ours.
Dianne, if the meds help Miss Quill, then they are worth twice what you paid. However, if you need me to order and reship, just let me know, I ain't skeered of no g'vnment!
It was a beautiful day here. I got the rest of my leaves raked. I tried to get my poor little white picket fence back up but it was having none of it.
My ham wasn't all that good. I think it will go in the crockpot tomorrow.
I went out for a ride to take some pictures. I don't think I captured downed trees quite like I see them as I drive to and from work. I did get some nice pictures though. There is a back road to work that has a huge stand of trees and it looks like there is a teepee shaped pile of trees. But I couldn't get a good picture.
One of the pictures is at an assisted living home. The house is probably one of the grandest in town. It was built by a shoe manufacturer. Way back there were two factories in this little town. Well the home is just beautiful and to the one side was a greenhouse - that is no longer there. I would have loved to see the house back then. They have huge trees and one came down in pieces - which are huge.
I took some pictures of a nearby monestary which has been closed for decades. There are about 5 huge pines trees down.
Elsie, that is a lot of damage. I agree with the yellow house. We have quite a few of those here, just magestic! Love that front porch.
Dinner was quiet. Too quiet. Shane did come home...alone. Karen isn't feeling well, battling a cold. Thought it was kind of cute, he ate, helped pick up and do
a few things and went back to take care of her.
You asked if I had known her long. Well...since pre-school. lol I am really on the fence with this, as her brother is a real troublemaker...they are pretty much together all the time. I am sure he is one of the kids that helped shane go in the wrong direction. Funny thing is, cute as Karen is...at maybe 4' 10" to Shanes 6' 2"...she looks like she is about 12. Very tiny and petite...BUT...she is Shannon's age, 2 years older than DS. No problem really...if they were a few years older.
BUT I will stay out of it and see where it goes. DD really does NOT like this girl at all...and the older girls do not like her older sister. SO...like I said, will stay out and see where it goes.
Having some "swelling" issue, and need to get my legs elevated. Poor Shannon went into work, left here at 7:30. Works from 8:30 to 5:30 a.m. THEN has to go back into work at 3:15. I "think" she is staying at Jeanna's. Going to text.
Sweet dreams everyone, I hope you had a wonderful day...and safe travels.
Miss Bonnie Greer...it is time for you to check in!!!
Good morning, it is a bit colder here, not bad really, but it is trying to mist rain. Don't have anything planned today, except maybe straighten the house and do some laundry. Have plenty of paper that needs dealing with, so maybe that will happen too.
You know the day is going straight down the tubes when you wake up and since you went to bed last night the "martha stewart" neighbor has her house entirely
decked out her house from top to bottom along with the yard!!!
AND...the coffee pot is DEAD.
DH is getting dressed so we can go coffee pot shopping. On Good Friday. He has lost his mind!
Squirrelly girl is back on my wrapped around my neck with her tail tucked in. Think I will change her name from Darla to Squirrelly Shirley!!
Shannon got home from work about 8:00 a.m. and is zonked out. Leaves here at 2:00 to go back in.
AND...Vicki is sending snow this way! That means Terese is gulty too!
Debbie I think the lack of coffee get to you!!!! LOL
I need to go get some yarn, going to make DM a poncho.
I figured out I still need to do Lee and Kelly and one other each a shawl but have to find someplace I can get the colors they want. Lee's color choice is no longer for sale.
Get all kinds of yarn in my stash but not the colors I need.
It has warmed up a good bit here already 30 degrees higher than it was this morning.
Elsie yesterday was busy. They actually ran some good sales. Last year was $991 This year it was around $2500 in sales for the day. DM said whoever had the biggest raise percent wise would get a free lunch.
Well, DH was got an eye full today. He never really understood why I hated going out on black Friday!! HEY if you find a GOOD deal...it can be Good Friday Melva!!! pffffft!
Anyway, we pull into Kohls, and found a spot right away. I had my coupons and knew just what I wanted. WELL. We walk in and round the corner, there at the register...the line started, wrapped around down the front of the building...down the isle down past luggage & shoes...circled around again...and down past bedding. Had to be 200 or more in that line! AND...on the other side of the store...second set of registers had same thing going in the opposite direction. We walked through, looked...and LEFT. Went to Walmart, found almost exactly same thing...and were out within 15 minutes. NO waiting at the counter either!
Had a french dip for lunch and are now home...and all tired out!
Happy Good Friday!!!! May you find a perfect deal...hehehe
The temps are supposed to drop dramatically overnight. Snow & ice in the mountains State College is in the moutaines. So there was risk that I'd be driving through ice & snow as I came home if I'd waiting 'til the morning. Here in sunny Barto its just gonna be cold. Low 40s. Tomorrow I'm meeting Laurel from DG.
Dinner with Dad was terrific! We've gone to the Corner Room, probably the oldest restaurant in State College (1800's). It was the best meal we've ever had there! I had collard greens with ham. Never had it before but I am sold! We didn't need dinner after the large lunch. My step mom really has slipped physically. She looks 10yrs older than she did just a few months ago. I worry how difficult it must be supporting her. She's suicidal. Very rough situation but he seems to be handling it pretty well. He finished writing a book about the history of the Statistics Department at Penn State. (He was one of the foulsnding faculty of the department). He also finished picking up the leaves from his wooded 2.5acre property. So he was feeling a little out of sorts, wondering what he'd do next. I think he's planning to write his memoirs.
My mom took me to a new Italian restaurant she's been wanting to try. It was a cute place and the food was wonderful. I had gnocci in tomato. Yum! Mom had the lasagna and she was just raving about it. I helped her clean out an area in her hobby room that she couldn't get to easily. I swear she's got $1000's invested in all the yarns, fibers and knitting equipment in that room! But we got it all organized and cleaned. She's having allergy troubles so thought cleaning out this area would help. I hope it does!
Good evening. I did a variety of things today, and none of them amounted to much. Straightened the house, finished 2 sermons that I had started, and notes for another one organized. DH cut an ornamental plum tree in the front yard and a wild cherry in the back yard. He was just going to trim the plum, but saw that the trunk was split and we just decided to cut it all down.
Went to a nursery and he picked out a beautiful spruce tree to plant at his DB's gravesite. He will plant it tomorrow, and he plans to decorate it for Christmas. At least with lights.
DS was here and he grilled steaks on the grill and it was a delicious supper. Had salad and baked potato and garlic bread. I am so done with the turkey.
Tam, your kind of Thanksgiving sounds good to me. Italian, and then collards and ham. I love greens of any variety. DH has tons of turnips, but he didn't want me to cut any, and now the frost has ruined them. My favorite meal is salmon patties (croquets) kale and boiled eggs. Wierd, but I like it.
Terese, Burt's Bees? I know I have tried the lip balm and the foot cream. What other product do you use?
Melva, I am glad you told me about your penchant for looking for mistakes. You won't have to look long or hard to find some in my posts. Hehe, have giggled all day about you and Debbie confusing Black Friday with Good Friday. Guess you could call it Good Friday if you were shopping and found a good deal!
Vicki, did you work today? Does your DH hunt for deer, or for something else? The gun deer season is about to close here. We only have 40 acres, and we know of 5 that have been taken on our property. Only one was a trophy.
Debbie, the last coffee pot I bought, I had it for 2 days, and went to make a pot of coffee, (had company here for supper) and the stupid pot just went crazy. It was spewing water and coffee everywhere. It was only a few days old, so took it back and bought a reliable Black and Decker and it has been going for about 3 years now. Since I bragged on it, now watch it die. Girlfriends? The least you say the better it goes. I made the mistake of criticising one, and he married her, which only lasted about 2 years! So just make sure that any words you utter are words that won't be too bitter to eat if you have to!
Yahoo, Bonnie Greer, It is time you came out and posted and let us know what is going on with you and your boys, and DM. I have thought about you on and off for days.
Adina, thanks for your kind words about me. This time of year especially, I am looking for those less fortunate than I am to help during the holidays. I don't think with our economy like it is that I will have to look to far to find someone that I can help.
We have this cute little 18 month old boy in church, and I always buy for him. He loves his daddy's tractor, so I have bought him a toy tractor and a shirt that says "T is for Tractor" and it has a picture of a John Deere tractor on it. (Adina that is a brand name of tractor). His mother has a hard time keeping his shoes on him, so I am looking for something novel so that he will want to wear them.
Well, I am off to bed shortly. I need to run some errands tomorrow, and then try to plan something that I can cook ahead of time for our Sunday lunch.
Tammy, those sound like very nice places and meals. Glad you had a good time. I am pretty sure most people who use fabric or yarn have lots of money tied up in their crafts.
BonnieB, steaks on the grill sound yummy.
I didn't go anywhere today. I didn't see anything that would make me go out shopping today. After a couple of really nice days I think we are in for much colder windy weather.
Here is a link to the yellow house that I posted. I wish I could take a picture of the whole home. I found some interesting info. scroll down and see the second photo - on the right hand side is the green house. The wrought iron fence is still around the property. My great uncle lived there for a while - it was rather dark inside with all the dark woods. It would be wonderful to see the grounds when they were all planted. Just thought I would share. http://www.newtonnj.net/Pages/merriamhse.htm
nice score Sandy. PS is not cheap. I still have a very old version, my son's is more current, but it's a single license - and his is for school, on his laptop... when he upgrades laptops to a Mac, i'll get his version.
Tam, that sounds like two wonderful days. I really miss making lasagna for holidays. My ex's family had it, and it was fine me making it until DH found out it was a tradition I carried forward from that time and then he didn't want it any more for Holidays! He isn't a big pasta person anyways. BUT collard greens and ham just made my mouth water!
BonnieB, sounds like you had another busy day! John Deere makes adorable little sneakers with velcro straps on them to help keep on little feet easier. AND...they make tractor slippers that make an engine noise with the kids walk. If you have a Central Tractor or Tractor Supply Store...they have lots of that and very reasonable prices.
Sandy, I am looking to do the update for the Paint shop pro...I have it also and love it. The update is $29.95 I think, but I have been a bit spoiled and feel bad buying it.
Elsie, that weather is supposed to be all over the place. Make sure you have enough batteries and what ever you need, just in case. They say the fragile trees with the wind is the problem. Stay safe!
Well, think I am going to mosey up to bed. I don't know if I will sleep, worry about the kids being out and lack of sleep on Shannons part. She still has about a 15 mile drive to get to Jeannas, and between traffic coming out of the city...and then deer in the country, with her sleep deprived on top of it. I will worry!
Sweet dreams all,
Debbie ...who is already dreaming of waffles for breakfast...and a cup of coffee! lol
Good morning, brrr the weather surely changed from yesterday. It is in the mid 20's I need to run a couple of errands this morning, then I don't know what, if anything I will do. May just be a day here at home, doing some cooking.
Sandy -- I use Elements on my laptops and work computers. When i found our computers at work did not have any photo editing software, with the exception of the lousy microsoft one, I purchased an older version for 30 bucks and put it on 4 computers. On my "tower" I have Photoshop CS, and I think Alex has Photoshop CS5 or 6. I was able to get that with academic discount, so it didn't hurt the pocket book too badly.
cold and gray here today. I see ice on the pond ... when it was so windy the past few days, I flipped over Bud's water bowl, so it wouldnt blow away... that is usually my indicator on how cold it is -- if there is ice or not.
Terese sometimes our attic seems like Christmas, you never know what you will find. Then there are the times you open a box and find a nest of baby mice (mostly in spring). I need to find a box of pictures up there, and that is like a needle in the haystack issue.
Gosh, everybody must have been really busy today, no posts since around 11:00 a.m. Sorry, I could have been here, but you know how something always comes up.
I had errands in town and by the time I did them, went to church and turned the heat up, and came home, all I wanted to do was take a nap. However, I cooked a roast, potatoes and carrots for tomorrow's lunch, and in the morning, I will bake a casserole of sweet potatoes, and have some corn or green beans to round out the meal. I made a peach cobbler tonight, but the 2 men have just about finished it off.
DS grilled some burgers tonight, and that was supper. I may get used to him cooking and sit and wait for him to tell me what is for the next meal.
I think its wonderful that you are getting just a little pampering BonnieB!
We drove into Lancaster County to meet another DG member and her family. Was a very nice day. We stopped on the way home for some groceries & red paint. It seems like it should be Sun so I'm really happy that is still Sat! :-)
Debbie - have you met Laurel? She's doing well. It was a pleasure to meet her family as well. Her daughter and son in law couldn't be cuter! Her husband has a wood working shop too so he and Gary could chat about their hobby too. Laurel has an incredible breadth of interests. Its just so interesting to meet people in person with whom you've been friends only in the virtual world previously.
I think I'll work in the greenhouse today. I have a pile of pots to wash and dead plants to toss. And of course it requires its annual thorough cleaning before seed starting season.
Tam, I wonder if I got Laurel and Laurie mixed up...she does a lot of animal rescues. I haven't met her, just talked on the phone if it is the same one. Has helped me a lot with feeding the crew and advice on Izzy.
Good morning. Just a minute. Stetson crawled behind me on the chair to sleep. Now I am in danger of slipping off the chair and onto the floor as he slowly stretches. Okay I moved to another chair.
Debbie, it was Patti2 who drove me and the boys here. Not Judy. I hsve been here since 11/19. DM to arrive 12/7 - 12/10. Most of her furniture will be delivered to the ALF this Friday with the exception of the loveseat and the two wardrobe cabinets. I bought two 50" TVs for her. Maybe now she will be able to read the scores on the screen when she watches football. An artist friend of Judy's is going to do some custom painting on the bedroom furniture to coordinate with the framed art that is going behind her bed.
It is still cold and windy here. I had a difficult time getting to sleep last night.
Would someone tell me in d-mail what happened to Thor. I searched and searched for the message from Bec, but could not find it.
Hey Bonnie, how are the boys doing at the condo? I sure hope your DM loves the new place.
Tammy, so glad you and Gary had a good time visiting with Laurel.
Well I got to organizing again. Obviously I have no idea what I'm doing. I got a large garbage bag filled and it looks like I have more stuff instead of less.
I had to put new plastic on a panel on the front porch. I can't get the rubber splining in the little channel. I swear I got it 3/4 of the way around and the first piece started coming out. So I tried one of those window kits. AFter the plastic is adhered you use a hair dryer to remove the wrinkles. It looks so much better. I hope it helps with the wind and rain.
When I was hauling leaves out back I noticed how badly my one shed is leaning. I think it is from Sandy. I don't dare to open the door since I think the whole thing would fall on me.
Guys didn't show to do the wood this weekend nor did they call. Not the first time they have done this so I know not to fret. It is just hard for me as I am the type of person who when I commit to something follow through and if for some reason I can't make it I call. This behaviour is so typical of the people in this area and even after all of the years I cannot understand it. It is not as if I need the wood - this is for next winter. Right now I don't want to be using the chainsaw when I am alone. Once these dizzies are fixed it won't bother me.
My old neighbour from when we lived in the farm house called me to see if I needed anything in Kingston on Tuesday as she is going into the dentist. Turns out so am I ( same dentist) and our appointments are one after the other so we are going to go in together. If I don't get the dizzies and my root canal is not too painful we will probably go out to lunch plus she will take me to the pet store that sells Diesel's kibble. No one out this way will carry it or even consider getting it in for me. Need to get Diesel a new collar too - he has outgrown 2 already. He definitely does not need the puppy size collar now.
Good to hear from you Bonnie. It sounds like everything is going tickety boo with the move of your mam. How is she feeling about it? Will she miss Monique? Glad the boys are with you at the condo. How is your friend doing that had the surgery in September? More importantly how are YOU doing?
Debbie did you feel better as the day went on? Hope your dinner was a success. Was it pot luck?
Wise decision Elsie not to open the door of your shed. Would your insurance cover the fixing up or replacement or will they say it was like that before Sandy? Are people satisfied with their insurance claims? Haven't read anything about this matter in the news.After the huge Ice Storm in 98 many people were upset with the settlement they got from their insurance companies - nowhere near what they claimed. Although on the other hand food lost in freezers and refrigerators was replaced no problem, no questions.
Listening to a PBS channel that I think Debbie gets - they are playing Doo Wap songs. Sounds great!
I have been slowly ordering from Amazon DVDs and books to help entertain me though Christmas week. Its hard not to open them as they arrive but I know I will really appreciate them later. I did start the new bio of Bruce Springsteen. Very interesting - he sure had a weird childhood - no rules, no bedtime, apparently it was nothing for him at age 5 to be up at 3 am reading his books or watching the national anthem on the TV screen.
Quill, Diesel and I had a wonderful ramble this afternoon through a part of the property we rarely go. Diesel was a little hesitant at first which surprised me as he usually embraces each new situation with gusto. Quill was determined she was going to come with us but kept 40 - 50 paces behind us.In part she is afraid Diesel is going to jump on her and that causes her to fall every time. It must hurt like heck but she gets herself up and keeps on going. She sure was tired when she got back home. Of course Diesel was all reved up and ready to go again.Although he is napping now.BonnieB Quill says Mr B must have caught the pounds she has lost since Diesel arrived. She said she doesn't care if Mr B weighs more, it is just all the more to love.
Vicki hope things have been fairly calm for you at work. I still think it is terrible that retail stores are open on Thanksgiving. What is next Christmas Day? My DBIL sold furniture and until they introduced new shopping laws Christmas Day and Boxing Day were the only 2 days he got off in a row all year. Sunday shopping and wider shopping regulations changed that for him.
Sandy did Andre kill his toy completely? Was your pound cake good?
OK Diesel is awake and has his bowl in his mouth - guess he is hungry so off I go.
LOL at the dead toy. Diesel is terrible with toys. I haven't bought him many as he attacks them all with great gusto. Andre must have whispered in his ear that is what you are supposed to do with toys.
Diane, the shed was falling down before the storm. But the top of the roof has curled back. I am sure my insurance would cover nothing. I don't know what insurance is covering for this hurricane. I did see on the news a woman who owns a business in Red Hook. She lost about 80% of her inventory. Loans through FEMA are higher interest than her bank. She is still running her business on a generator. This is a family owned business and she is determined to keep it going. It is a welding supply business.
Its sounds like a nice walk with the pups. Have a good time with your friend. HOpe the dentist isn't too bad.
I was watching Animal Planet with the different breed puppies. How cute.
I've got a cranberry-lime loaf in the oven. Its not on my diet but I had a hankering for cranberry something so am giving it a try.
We're going to take Scirocco into the vet as soon as we can. She's lost another 1/2lbs. She's gone from 9.5lbs to 7.5lbs. And she's getting bald spots again. Poor thing looks awful but seems to be feeling good. She's been playing a lot lately.
The other company that was next door and they were drying paperwork with a hair dryer. So I assume since she was still using a generator that they still had no power. She said she would end up spending around $800,000 to get her place back up and running. After seeing that I would think there would be many businesses not opening back up.
Well... I did a real bone-head move today. I was trimming out the dead leaves from a big plant in the living room. The phone charger was nearby. I saw the cord in amongst the stems of the leaves but thought I could just be careful. Yep. I cut it in half. New chargers started at $20 and went over $40 for some. I told the clerk to stop looking for the one I needed when I saw the prices. I got some shrink wrap and we repaired the cord instead.
One of those times when you know you should stop and take precautions but don't. Bonehead. lol
Debbie, I don't when they saw it they would pay anything.
Tammy, oops Teddy's dad gave me a retractable usb charger for my phone. And with the new phone he gave me a new one. These are very handy - I can use it with the car charger. I don't know where you get them or how much they are. They are very handy though. The new one - I can download music from my desktop to my phone.
Loretta my DD used the hair dryer shrink plastic on her windows on Orcas every winter and they held up pretty well. Besides repairs were easy if they failed. Thermal lined window coverings were also extremely efficient in keeping out the cold. A small, electric radiator set fairly low did a good job of keeping the extreme chill out of the room we were using at the moment or in a baby's room.
I picked up dish towels and cloths and a couple of pot holders and cork trivets this afternoon for DM's place. Selected a set of four place settings + 2 colorful Corelle Watercolor pattern Dishes for her kitchen. Will get a four place setting set of flatware from Bealls Outlet tomorrow on Monday Senior Discount Day. She will only have snacks in her room anyway. Also found a pretty rattan covered dirty clothes hamper that had another hamper inside along with two matching rectangular trash cans and two cotton lined trays - JACKPOT! And the cutest of all a white, ceramic toilet brush holder shaped like a tall, slim, sitting cat.
Bed - Full size. Headboard only
Quilt & Shams - no bed skirt or Euro Shams. Quilt folded at foot of bed
Chest - will hold 50" TV
Good evening. Well, went to all the trouble of making those sweet rolls this morning, and exactly 3 were eaten. Me, DH and DS! Well, I will let them wait a long bit before I take something else in. I guess we will be having warmed up sweet rolls for breakfast tomorrow morning.
Dianne, had to laugh about the collar for DIesel. Mr. B has gained so much weight that I had to replace the collar he has worn for about 5 years. Tell Quill that he said he was glad that the extra weight didn't bother her, as it certainly is him! Sounds like you had a good walk through the woods. Beginning tomorrow, we can once again go for walks in the woods. Gun season for deer was over at sunset today. It was too dangerous to be out there for the last 3 weeks. About 4:00 Mr. B and I were laying on the bed watching tv, and his ears went up. I heard it too, it was gun shots. I didn't say anything to him, and then we heard another shot, and off the bed and into the closet he went. Stayed there till almost dark before he came out. I hope he understood me when I told him that it would be over soon.
Elsie, Oh, I would call the insurance company and see if they pay anything on the shed. I don't envy you of the job of putting plastic up, I don't care if it had adhesive on it, and the only thing you had to do was press it in place, I would manage to mess it up somehow. Oh, I am due an update to my phone in December, and I am afraid that they won't still have the very simple ones. I don't do music or photos or anything but just dial a number and talk. I guess I will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into a new age!
Bonnie, so glad to hear from you. I am hoping that things are going well and you are just busy. I am anxious to know too if your DM is enthusiastic about moving, and does she really know she is going to assisted living? How are the boys doing?
Debbie, glad that your dinner was good and that is behind you. I hope that you are feeling better. Maybe it is time to see a Dr about the upset stomach, since it has been a few days.
Terese, it is cold here. I went out this afternoon to check on water bowls for the outside dogs, and they had ice around the edges. I guess it is time for me to investigate the heated bowls, or just be more vigilent about checking them very early every morning. Mr. Casper is sleeping in the laundry room every night. He has caught on very fast. Abby, DH's dog (rat terrier) sleeps there every night, and when Casper started sleeping in there, I just made him a bed of throw rugs. Abby sleeps in a laundry basket, and now Casper has started barking and drawing her out of the basket, and he hops in. It is too cute to watch.
Sandy, Mr. B kills all his toys, but if they are stuffed toys, he will take the eyes off first, and then shred the rest of the toy. I told him that he had a conscience, because he didn't want the toys to watch while he killed them.
Melva, how is it in Texas? Weather wise? How are the itchies?
Tammy, poor Scirocco. I do think that it is time for a vet visit to see what is going on. Well, seems you have the instinct to kill things too. Gosh didn't realize that the chargers cost that much. Look on ebay, for a replacement, because that repair won't last too long. The cranberry lime sounds really good. I love the craisins and use them in salads as well as baking. I think cranberry and any citris fruit would be a good combination.
We had roast beef carrots and potatoes, lima beans and a broccoli casserole for lunch. I chopped up the left over roast, etc and we will be having hash and corn bread tomorrow. It was good and then I took a nap, in the middle of watching tv. That is what happens when I watch tv from my bed. My project for the new year is to find a very comfortable chair for the bedroom, plus a bigger tv. I don't want the bed to be the only comfortable place to watch tv. I just have too much furniture in there.
Bonnie, beautiful pieces and I can't wait to see pictures of that silk on the wall behind the bed. It will be striking I am sure.
Debbie,I am not taking it personally. They are just always so anxious to eat whatever someone decides to bring in. I didn't think about that, but yep, guilt could have played a part in it.
We are having a soup and sandwich supper on Friday night, and after we eat, the ladies are going to decorate the church for Christmas. The guys job is to go upstairs and bring everything down for us. I am looking forward to it. I am taking some Christmas CD's so that we will have some "mood music" to help us make the job more appealing, and to get everybody in the mood.
BonnieB I think DM is in for a rude awakening as in , "Be careful what you wish for...". She is accustomed to being waited on hand and foot as they say. There will be no one to deliver the bowl of fresh fruit at precisely 9:00 PM every night, for instance. She has insisted that she did not want people in her house overnight from 7P - 7A. We shall see. Certainly I can see that she has cut up fresh fruit in her fridge at all times, but she will have to serve herself. I have already contracted with someone to come in every evening to scoop the litter box and feed her cats. I was able to negotiate a monthly rate. I can wash the box once a week. I do not want her leaning over head first to do this chore. It is -very easy for the elderly to lose their balance in that position. Of course, knowing that hard head - she is very likely to do it herself anyway. All I can do is try. I fully expect several desperate phone calls from her within the first few days of moving in as things cannot possibly be set up according to the Queen's standards. I am in a bad sleep period, as in not sleeping. Then have to go go go all day to furnish the apartment. I am so run down. Boys are adjusting.
She is okay with making the move, but I suspect leaving the house will be hard. Packing and loading day is this Thursday. Then 6-8 days for her things to reach the ALF. Then she and Monique leave.
Tammy sending good thoughts for Sirocco.
The only reason I am still up at this hour is because I fell asleep composing this post and didn't know it.
Good morning! It's a brand new day, although foggy and cloudy. I've been too tired to post and even to open the laptop, but I'm getting there...still 1/3 of the garden to dig. I also vacuumed the whole house and dusted. Nicholas has a new friend who's name is Dank aka Spiderman!LOL He has a carpet with "Dank"on it and he's talking to him like he was real...telling him when he is going out , to eat or going to bed. He says "Dank' is ugly, but he likes it.
Melva, I think you need to go to the doctor's. Hugs!
Bonnie, the furniture looks great. I hope DM will like it and will adjust to her new home. You rest as much as you can and relax, take a good night sleep. Sending big hugs to you!
Debbie, what funny pics of the kitties!
Dianne, poor Quill , she can't walk so far as Diesel. You'll have to get her out alone, for a very short walk.
BonnieB, the sweet rolls will be just as good if warmed up! We like them also cold. What did they have inside?
Tam, praying for Scirocco to be well, poor kitty! Please, keep us posted.
Vicki, I was happy to hear you didn't have to work too hard on TG. We were expecting flurries, but nope, not yet. Warming up instead.
Elsie, I agree, that is a very beautiful house. What a mess with those trees!
Good morning, it is sunny outside, but since I haven't been out don't know how cold it is. Nothing planned for today, just straightening the house and some laundry. I am sure something else will fall in my lap, as it usually does.
Bonnie - your mother will feel wonderful surrounded in the beautiful environment you are creating.
Melva - sorry you are still itching. Perhaps its time to get some steroids to suppress the itching? It can feed upon itself. (Though of course they have the awful side effect of increased appetite!)
BonnieB - wish we could share in those rolls. I bet they were delicious!
Debbie - sorry to hear your nerves are getting to you. But how nice to have 2 successfull Thanksgiving dinners! We have snow in the forecast for tonight. Yuck.
Adina - nice to hear from you. We missed you! It would be too cold here to dig the garden. I normally grind up the leaves and grass in my lawn mower's bagger and put that on the garden as a mulch & as an amendment for the spring. I have not had time this year.
Loretta - I hope Teddy joins the crew at work to help perk things up there for you.
Sandy - your DM is a lucky mom to have you!
My mom said her friend found somewhere that Frontline had to eliminate a key ingredient due to an EPA finding. I have not found that on the internet. Definitely some thing going on with it though as there are reports all over this year that it has lost its effectiveness.
Good evening. Today I did laundry and paper work and sort of straightening the house. I enjoyed the weather as it was sunny and not too chilly. I just went out and sat on the front porch, wearing a sweat shirt, and was very comfortable. Our weather liars are saying we will get rain overnight with some areas getting some snow. Not anything measureable, but a dusting. DH is hoping for rain so that maybe he can get the tobacco out of the barn so that it can be stripped and taken to market. He said that with the crew he has that they could finish it in 3 days. It is good if it can be done before the really cold weather gets here. You work in a "stripping room" which is a very primitive room in the tobacco barn, he has heat in there, but with no insulation, it is just enough to keep you from really getting freezing cold.
Tammy, I am so glad that your DH is taking Siroccio to the vet. It is very worrisome, but it could be just that she is slowing down and nothing out of the ordinary. I will be thinking of them tomorrow.
I invited the neighbors to coffee tomorrow morning. We used to do this once a month, but seems everybody got busy and we sort of slacked off. I made a pumpkin roll to have with our coffee, and made DH a pumpkin pie this afternoon. Both turned out well.
Good news, my DBIL who had the bulldozer accident was moved from the hospital today and taken to a rehab hospital. Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since the accident. He has 3 broken vertibrae in his back, and they will be working with him for that. My DS (older one, and the wife of DBIL) has been taking meds for Afib for about a month, and on Friday she has to go to the hospital and have her heart shocked back into rhythm. My DTS and I are going with her, so keep us in your prayers that everything goes as it should.
~~~~ to everybody, may have time to check in before the neighbors come in the morning, but if not it will be around noon before I can manage that!
BonnieB, I will be keeping DTS and DBIL in my prayers. What an awful lot of stuff to be going through. I would have liked a sweet roll with my coffee this morning.
Tammy, I hope there is some good news about Scirocco.
Bonnie, I think DM's pad is going to be beautiful!! I hope you can catch up on your sleep.
One of the guys at work was hammering something at home and hit himself in the nose with the claw part of the hammer. He broke his nose, split it open and cut through his artery. I saw his nose this morning and what a great job his plastic surgeon did. He got the EOB over the weekend. For 45 minutes of work in the ER - over $21,000. that is not including the ER.
Work was a little better than I had imagined it would be today. I feel like I am walking on egg shells. Teddy was at work today and he was just too cute for words.
Did you all see the pigs flying? I got a check from my homeowner's insurance. They overcharged me. Almost $12.00.
Elsie, I thought I saw a pig in the sky. It is seldom that they refund any money, so use it wisely. What a horrible accident your co worker had. It is amazing what a good plastic surgeon can do with a horrible looking wound. My DH fell out of the tobacco barn about 3 years ago and hit his ear on a nail that was sticking out, and almost cut his ear off. He went to the local ER and they sent him to louisville, and now you cannot tell which ear it was. Very traumatic, as I was getting off a plane in Austin, Tx, and my DGD called me to tell me about it, sobbing hysterically, I may add.
If you had gotten here early you could have had a sweet roll. My DS came in and finished them off. They were good, but I only had that one at church on Sunday. I had to taste my pumpkin roll, to make sure that I wouldn't be serving something horrible to my guests tomorrow morning. My story and I am sticking to it.
BonnieB, definite prayers for entire family, so much going on the last 6 months for all of you.
Tam, keep us posted on Scirroco tomorrow, we will be with you also!!
And me...I finally gave in and made a doctors appt. 2:00 tomorrow. I think I found out what is the problem. I am afraid to go to Florida because
I won't want to come back. With what The Child & DS have put us through lately...especially The Child...I don't want to deal with it anymore. Listening to her tonight I noticed I started having palpitations. I might need something for anxiety...or a crew to drag me back here kicking and screaming.
Quite a few errands to do tomorrow also, so not sure what time I will get on here.
Sweet dreams all, Melva...if you are still itching...get to the doctor. You can pick up a scabies type itch and need cream to get rid of it.
I don't want to say it out loud...shsssh! itching has not been a problem the last couple of days...Bonnie B. I got some bath oil and have been using that after baths and it seems to have helped...Keri is the type of oil...still have some impulses to scratch but so far have been able to ignore them. I am starting to wonder if I am reacting to Corky...he is snuggled beside me and I am wanting to scratch...I love a snuggly cat, and hate to discourage him...but...
Yesterday I attempted to move more of the plants to the patio and into the greenhouse..after moving 3 cart loads I quit...they are mostly roses and the cold doesn't faze them unless it is in the 20's...aand it is 40 something..I will get the rest tomorrow when it will be warmer..todays high is supposed to be 50 with a North wind..no plans to go outside to do more than feed the birds.
I plan to do some housework today (maybe) and I may try the waterrower again.a friend put the raiser on it, so it is hig enough for me to use it. I tried it one day last week and did it wrong and hurt my back. Apparently if you don't keep your back straight, that happens. I was riding it like a bike...
Quill had a vdry difficult night. Went down and couldnt get up for starterd. I spent the night on the floor cradling her. Have mo idea what I will come home to but I couldnt cancel thr dentist. My heart is breaking.
Well, guest have just departed, and I tried to send some of the pumpkin roll home with them, but they said it would be safer here!
Had a lovely time, and just about got caught up on the news from each of them. So much has happened this past year. Seems that we have all had bad years, but we are vowing and claiming an illness free year for 2013.
Melva, yeah, I think when the temperatures drop, it is mostly dry skin that causes the itchies. I think putting the bath oil on the wash cloth while it is damp and running it all over your body, lets you control how much oil you are putting on, and then if it tends to be something you are allergic to, stopping it immediately helps rather than having to wait 3-4 days to actually see if stopping it helps. I don't know how many oils I have bought and given away because my skin didn't like it.
Oh Dianne my heart is breaking for you! I keep thinking about how she has stayed with you these last months because you needed her. I am hoping she will be better when you get home but maybe it is time because Diesel can step in and fill her shoes (paws) now. Sending hugs and strength and love to you all.! Gotta go. Can't see due to tears.
Hone from the dentist and Quill is still with us. She seems more alert than when I left and actually ate somethng out of my hand. She hasn't eaten in 2 days. Steve was here so he helped me get her outside. She had trouble moving her back legs but is able to get better traction outside. I won't make a decision today or tonight, I just can't when she looks at me with that sweet face of hers.
Yes I know I will Terese and Quill will tell me. As long as I can manoveur her in and out the door and keep Diesel from jumping on her I will keep her comfortable. Tonight I will help her get onto her blanket in the bedroom so she can sleep beside me like she last these last 12 years.
Dianne. Just like vicki said, I would be touching her all night. She is a sweet girl, and yes, you will know when it is time. I would see if Steve could help prepare a site, and have your kind vet involved. Tell her Mr. B will be right there saying goodbye, when it is time.
I will have her cremated Bonnie like the rest of my guys. Warren always said he had this vision of me in my 80's rocking away in my rocker in front of the wood stove looking at all the urns of my loved ones sitting on the French Buffett. That image alarmed me enough that I moved all of the urns into my den - hadn't really thought about what company would look at when they came.
Quill is basking in all your love and kind thoughts. She is such a happy girl even now and is trying to hard to engage with Diesel and I. She did get up all by herself and go to the door asking to go out. Going in and out must have exhausted her though as she was only about 5 steps inside the door before she collapsed. I had put a rug down where she is now thinking that was probably about where she would end up.She was rewarded with cheese so is a very happy camper right now.
Melva, how are you and the itchies today?
Not really interested in food but my stomache says otherwise. Maybe a baked potato will fit the bill.Oh and I still have some ham in the fridge that I found in the freezer. There, dinner is taken care of ... that was easy. Wish I had some turkey and stuffing though.
