This is this nondescript thing I dug out of the back woods of a gardener's yard that was long neglected because she had become elderly & moved away. So I don't know if something intentional or something just growing wild. I'm on an evergreen kick right now, that's why I took it. Any guesses? It does have the distinct wrinkly leaf edges.
I agree w/nel5387, looks like Chinese privet (Ligustrum sinense) - the leaves can get that wrinkled appearance when it grows in shady conditions. It's considered an invasive species and not something you want in your yard.
Ah, well that makes sense. I compared it with the chinese privet pix on line and none of them were wrinkly. But this was definitely growing in shade so that must be what it is. Thank you to you both!
