yes!!.. it's time kids!!... lets see your indoor & outdoor decorations
and if you don't mind .. please vote for us at tacky light tour.. create an account if you don't have one.. and click the my ballot link at the top.. our house is listed as Denville Holiday Lights.. thanks in advance!!!!
any of them.. or all of them.. I know we won the last one because we had the most votes overall... that was the tacky award.. even though we didn't win a category that year.. we had the most votes spread out .. so it's all good.. thank you!!!
You go to the statee (NJ) and click on it.. The a list of the entrants pops up and it is about the 9th down.
But this site will not let me register! It wants first, last name, email address and I can click in any ONE of those boxes to fill in -- but that is it --- just one area is allowed and when I try to click register it says I need all areas completed! Is it an IPAD issue?
Randy had to ask help from the neighbors.. to get his 25 foot (yes he cut it down from his original idea of 30 foot).. Christmas tree pole up.. when he saw how big 30 foot really was.. he realized it was too big for a test year.. after the video he tethered it with anchor cables on each side.. we have tons of lights for this thing.. can't wait to see it done... there is a pulley that brings the lights to the top so you don't have to go up and down on a ladder.. going to be interesting for sure
the ABC lady called me today.. nice long chat.. we have to do an audition tape .. like extreme home makeover does.. "Hi I'm Allison.. blah blah blah blah" and send it to them.. this will be taped next year not this year.. but they want outgoing people.. 1st thing she asked me if Randy was outgoing as my babble mouth on the phone (of course she didn't say that) but was happy to hear Randy was.. I told her he is a bit more subdued but loves to talk about his lights
several years.. and yes.. but the new light keeper we bought allows you to cut out the bad bulb & have a dead spot where the bad one is.. once one bulb goes bad it pulls the rest of the string down.. something with the current being interrupted.. some sets have it that you can change the bulbs out.. but they are more expensive of course.. the flex change are nice because you don't need to put the same color bulb in it's place.. has it's own resistor in each casing.. worth the extra money for
there are a lot like that too... Holdman puts up 6 of the big mega trees we are doing 1 of.. but his are 3 times bigger.. he has a piece of property like Celeste.. and just does the whole field ... but these are the guys I am learning from.. we all chat on forums like DG.. wish I knew how that guy does the singing snowman.. so I could do it smaller.. LOL
there is an angry birds too.. but I do learn a lot from those guys.. and Holdman also lists a ton of sequences you can download off his website.. so they do share there how to advice.. and always willing to answer questions
the first few commercial strings we bought were garbage.. can't change the bulbs.. but that new light keeper will fix it.. you cut the bulb out and put in a connection pod.. works great.. we are done with incandescent lights .. the new LED lights are so much better.. and brighter.. the wide angle are my favorite .. blinding bright
OMG .. someone just knocked on my door and asked me to put the lights on.. lucky I didn't call the cops.. sheesh.. just told him that we wouldn't be ready until the weekend.. and said sorry.. guess since he saw me though the window he felt like he should ask.. (wrapping lights around wire running down the dinning room) feel kind of bad.. but wow lucky I am not in Garfield.. different frame of mind there.. some stranger knocks on your door and get a gun in your face.. can't say I was comfortable opening the door.. told Randy to put the radio sign on tomorrow and I will put a message on there to check the facebook page for when the show starts
I wouldn't either.. we drove 45 mins to see a house and it wasn't lit up.. we went home again.. some people won't run the lights when it rains.. that house was the case.. and the reason we tape every cord.. no need to worry about rain
I actually found the lights at Acme grocery store and as soon as I saw them thought "let me just get them here so I don't have to look around for them", Home Depot also has some but at the time had only multi color and red ones
They are strands are 6' long
The lighted branches I got at Bed Bath and Beyond and are 39" tall
Made a dozen of those ice balloons today in various sizes. The colors are orange, yellow, red, green, purple and 2 shades of blue.
I then made large ice luminaries as Karen had suggested to me. I took 3 large plastic containers, 2 preen and one kitty litter. Filled them with colored water, and at the top I added a string to hold a plastic large cup in place. I have a blue, green and purple done so far. http://www.theheartofnewengland.com/LifeinNewEngland-Ice-Luminaries.html
I can't wait to see them .. and very very happy it's not cold enough for it here.. have to share my silly photo.. coming home from work and the firehouse Santa looks like he wants to take a swan dive... I felt like yelling out the window .. don't do it... don't do it
we started keeping track a couple of years ago.. 1st year was hard.. counted as Randy and I put them out.. after that it was easy... buy something.. and write it in.. even if I buy it in summer or whatever.. breaks take it off .. not bad now
Okay, I see now. That's way more work than I would want to do, not just the keeping track of the number of lights, but setting it all out and taking it all down every year. It's a labor of love, for sure.
any hobby I have had.. went in full blown.. just my nature... and this is one we both enjoy.. usually in decorating there is one sane person to say enough is enough.. but that is not the case with us.. LOL
oh the drip lights are not cheap... be forewarned.. sticker shock involved with them.. but they are neat
Mouse got into a box of man tree ornaments that were in the attic, chewed on some of the hand made ornaments my son made in school :( must have been attracted to the glue??? found a piece of mouse poison in the fake tree we use for the man tree...good thing we didn't find the dead mouse in the tree
Ugh so grossed out!! sprayed everything down the lysol, hope it killed all those mouse germs!
jen - where there is one mouse...get some traps up just in case.
i had them last year in the basement for the first time - got a bunch of them - caught two more this fall and have traps set up and so far so good as no new bodies - even set up traps in the garage as that was the entry point.
Wall-e has gotten couple outside :)
Other than the attic had them coming in by the dishwasher so we stuffed the cracks with steel wool and have a trap along the wall under the cabinet but haven't seen any evidence of any there in awhile
Mouse alarms, Marilyn? We get mice in the attic off and on throughout the year. Hard to keep them under control.
I will up in the attic tonight looking for some software CDs that I need to install in my computer, but now luck. In my search I found some Christmas stuff that I had purchased, probably during an after Christmas sale. There was an oven glove and pot holders with poinsettia designs on them, a tablecloth, also with poinsettias, some hunter green cloth napkins and a small area rug with more poinsettias. Now I just need to find some nice napkin holders and place mats.
Hubby never got around to putting our huge wreath up or the garland and lights around the door...good thing I did my part, color changing snowflakes in the windows, wreath on the door and lawn decorations
we should have our collection box out for the orphanage in town.. this weekend.. we are late doing that.. slackers!!!.. the one neighbor loves that we are doing this and getting traffic now.. he said if any of the neighbors give us a hard time with the U turns.. he will put a sign out.. U turn here .. in his driveway.. how cool is he???
DW decided that a 9 foot golden arborvitae was in the wrong place, so I cut it down for our Christmas tree. Most of our mini light strings were kaput and I decided that instead of spending hours trying to find the dead bulbs I would just buy some new LED strings. Colors are nice, they come in several sizes and shapes, and are energy savers.
I decorated my tree as well...I keep it in the living room, so the kids were out of everyone's way for awhile, reading all the tags on the presents...They are getting ski passes from me, so nothing they could shake!
well Randy wiped out down the stairs.. messed up his ankle.. needless to say we are done decorating :(
any leftover stuff will be saved for next year.. I feel so bad.. he did all this work and got hurt now.. but it's time to sit back and enjoy the people visiting.. I am uploading a video today.. will post later.. hopefully youtube doesn't block the audio
the swelling is starting to do down.. I forced him to sit his butt down yesterday and I went out and finished any big stuff that I can do.. realized I missed one thing while taking photos last night.. will fix that today.. but he is doing better.. doing the smart thing now and just relaxing and icing it
Anyone ever have the tree fall on them? I did - twice! Was really funny. Was by myself so must have looked hilarious. One of the times, when we were still in our small apt in Queens, it fell over on me, and I fell backwards to the floor. Carpet, luckily. But I landed with my legs out wide and the tree right on top of me. Looked like we were being intimate!
I could use some prayers...Christmas tree is in the stand but still not decorated. I really have been trying my hardest to overcome the sadness that hangs over my head, but I can't seem to shake it. I still cry every day, I can't begin to describe how lost I feel with out my brother. He was the male twin of me, we are so much alike it freaks people out, even myself. I have tried everything I can think of to get on with Christmas...I even made it so on Christmas Eve when everyone comes over we will ALL be in jammies. This would of made my brother laugh and will make us all alittle more silly. I even chopped my 7ft tree down to a 5foot-nothing ... it wouldn't fit in the stand so we had to. Now it's 5 foot-nothing tree just like he & I. Joshua calls it "U.B.'s Tree", U. B. is short for Uncle Brian.
I have bought the gifts, about half are wrapped so I have alot to do in the next few days...and I will get it done for the Grandchildren if nothing else. I just could use some prayers for comfort, stamina and strength please. Thank you.
This is new to me...the multiple picture sharing...not sure if they upload as they are before you click send or not.
Tom and I decided to go with a purple, green and silver color scheme for Christmas this year. I started making deco mesh wreaths. The one wreath with all of the different sized ornaments is a 48" wreath, although it doesn't look it; it weighs about 10lbs, give or take. The smaller wreath with the green deco mesh is a 24" wreath, the table is our side table in our entry way. And the baby mama is our concolor fir...favorite fresh cut tree of all time. We have pictures of the outside, but I can't seem to find them on the lap top for some reason. Enjoy!
Pixie, prayers for you...maybe some grief counseling would help...there's usually a group in our town run by the social worker, or one of the churches...it's free, & a big help, especially at this time of year. Thom, the decorations are very creative...Allison, that's still a nice amount for charity...
cheer up celeste hope you feel better in the new year.
wife came home last night with the winning tree from a raffle they had at work. every year several people decorate small xmass trees that they then raffe off - he prized tree is made by a co-worker who makes hand blown glass ball ornaments, must be about 10 of them on the little tree, it also has lights and bows with amaryllis bulbs in them. she recieved one of the ornaments several years ago as a gift that we have treasured. she was so excited as was I.
Thank you everyone for the prayers and well wishes, they are working. I've got the gifts all wrapped and the lights on the tree, will finish it up today along with washing the floors and start my baking. Christmas with the family is tomorrow @ 3 so I need to get moving. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
Love the ornaments!
I did my tree in all ornaments that my kids and grandchildren made or bought for me. We also did a PJ Christmas Eve. Everyone had to wear jammies and to be honest it was a hit!! One SIL said it should be made into a tradition. ^_^
Tarsha had "HELLO KITTY" jammie as the girls all love her. Tiffany had "Minnie & Mickey Mouse" jammies, Justin's were "Scooby-Doo", SIL Mitchell had "Wreck It Ralph" and I had "Chilly Willy" from my childhood days.
Tarsha on the left rocking her Hello Kitty jammies.
It was all good until Tarsha & Mitch were on I - 95 and the toll booth guy cheated her out of $5 on a toll. She pulled over and she & Mitch flipped a coin for who was getting out of the car. "Hello Kitty" or "Wreck it Ralph"? As Darby later told me on the phone..." Wreck it Ralph LOST!"
As a former toll collector I find that sad and maddening. If I was 10 cents off my tally I was upset with myself. Sometimes, if I was shorted because they handed me a pile of change and took off, I would add from my own pocket to make up the difference. And my cash drawer had to have the bills all facing the same way with the heads right side up. and my lane had to move the fastest. Anal, huh? I prided myself on being the fastest and most accurate. AND I spoke to every vehicle and smiled. What a tangent!! Heehee
Your Christmas display received enough nominations for a Tacky Award that you have won one of our coveted trophies. We would like to send your trophy to you at our expense, plus you will receive a gift card for a purchase at ChristmasLightsEtc.com.
I have the same feeling about taking the decorations down. I probably should be ashamed to admit that for the last 3 years we have not had a real tree. The decorated tree is on a balcony. There's an attic door a few feet away. We just wrap the decorated tree in plastic and push it into the attic. The next year we just pull it out and plug it in. Lots of things change as the years go by.
Have to say - this Frasier Fir has dropped fewer needles than any tree I have ever had. Frasiers are generally good with that, but this one is amazing.Thinking maybe the old traditional lights, with their heat, sped up the drying out. These LEDs are absolutely cool.
I took down my tree today, the decorations were packed away yesterday...not many needles to vac from mine either...usually I have a concolor which doesn't shed at all, but the farm didn't have any this year...have no idea what kind of tree, but the needles were long & soft...
decorations are off the tree and the house - will tackle getting the tree out tomorrow - usually clip off the branches and put them in a heavy trash bag to burn outside - makes to big of a mess and this years tree is a half larger than the sliding door.
