I'm not complaining...perfect here. I have lots of birds visiting the back yard, even saw a group of Carolina Chickadees yesterday (only see them in the winter months). Mid to upper 70's during the day and mid to upper 50's at night...Hard to bring myself into the house lately.
But we all know this could change with the blink of an eye...
The Doldrums. I believe thats the word. For the last two or three days no wind, no rain, very little cloud. Well I should say we get a southerly breeze blow up from about 1 -3 pm and then it dies down again. Next four or five days are suppose to be the same. Other than that little breeze in the afternoon nothing moves, clear blue sky, dry, humid and HOT. 80f+ outside the window. Had to water some pots yesterday. In addition most of the islands also have VOG. That volcanic haze the blows off the active part of Kilauea. With a light southerly flow the VOG is blown over Honolulu. Lava started flowing into the ocean again last week after almost a years break. Tourists love it so do the tour guides and helicopter tours.
50 's off and on rain today and last night ,after 70 and sunny yesterday. Yes it difficult to tell if it is spring of winter towards solstice.
Well I would make a tourist as I would love seeing the lava flowing into the ocean and 80 degree temps. Good heavens !!! keep at it a minute or two and I will have Tahiti syndrome!!! or maybe it should be re-named Hawaii syndrome?Oh I guess why the older people of days past said paradise syndrome? something to look up I guess...
We had a bit of rain this morning coming in off the ocean, would tell you how much, but the Darling Husband dropped my rain gauge and broke it. Looks like it is done though...so no excuse to not go for my walk now. Was 62° this morning, warmest morn we've had for awhile now.
Full moon the other night from my backyard. Fall color crape myrtle, my Christmas cactus about to bloom.
A bit warmer here, but foggy this morning. They said up to 80 yesterday, but never passed 76 here. Today they say again up to 80...we'll see. Prediction for the next four days. 80ish/60ish, part clouds/maybe rain and fog, maybe sun...they're covering all aspects. ☺
Wasn't Indiana a state that was very dry during the summer.
I would never complain about rain.
We had 5½" of rain in early May & 4½" in late May. Both times our crops were under water. Those rains saved the crops around here when it didn't rain the rest of the summer.
Yes with extreme drought , some of the cornfields, the corn never got taller than hip high or tall. Other fields looked okay ,only still the drought was bad here,
One of these earlier threads I was talking about a couple of rain storms? in May? 27 or 28 days in June with no rain at all ,then one one little sprinkle or so.
I know it was worse still farther south ., a lot of food that never was and a lot of work "shot to H!!" this season past was for many
I am not a farmer or market gardener only that is still much of my food going by there..
Maybe someone will post here and say how the Mississippi river is doing now.
Blizzard conditions in MN. Highest snow on 5:30 news was Granite Falls, MN with 15".
River is very low. Yesterday they said it may have to cut barge traffic between Minneapolis & St. Louis.
We need lots of snow up here this winter to help it out.
It is 53 and rainy here now fog, wind S at 6 humidity 94% barometer at 29.74 If it stays saturated here and snowy up north maybe river traffic will have a better year, hope that it all doesn't flood recovering.!!
DRY down south and west ,snowy farther north and a warm, wet season here , weather,, goodness are the elements having fun!!!!
Amazing isn't it. Early summer 2011, the Missouri river flooded a lot of the countryside. Now not enough water to float barges. Heavy snow & rain up here & flooding will be on the Mississippi in the spring.
Crashes all over the state today. 61 injuries, 1 death. 597 cars in the ditch.
Stay home! people.
We are at about 6" of snow, but it was warm all day so most melted. 10º now with 25MPH wind from NW.
I am going to crawl in my warm bed!
The cold front must have went thru your area ahead, because we had 21 this morning when I got up. Our temp sounds much better, but we will be joining you tonight and tomorrow for cold temps.
Plowing is all done THANKS to our son and I got all of the shoveling done.
Boy, I sure can tell I am getting old!!! LOL
Highs in the high 20s and now we are at 19 or so. Might have gone down a couple since we last looked. lol. Very bitter outside but also very dry. I was rushing around this morning thinking I was gonna need to start my truck early and scrape my windows. Nope! Not a lick of moisture anywhere.
Currently 40 that's the high. 32 tonight. There is a full moon tonight,, Be careful of Werewolves !!! and people wolves!!
Only it is cold enough that I am staying in "any old way" So those will have to find another place to get their bones to chew on.(weird humor)
GRANDMA read it to me, OH well .. Does this mean I get to be a youngster giggling because my elder told me wrong!!^_^
I think a large print calender would solve that better, but as you all might remember from those days ,,,everything you hear and are told is real and correct , and these days everything you read on the internet is absolute!! uh huh ,yeah right lol...
Some of that snow is coming here. Wheeeeeeee!!!!!! LOL!!! Rain tomorrow afternoon, then turns into snow and we will have strong winds with it. Only expecting 1-3 inches here where I'm at so far but if it shifts we will either get less or alot more. I'm hoping for more!! LOL
Today was sunny, breezy and temps reached mid 50s. Not too bad but I want my snow. lol
Raining, then will turn into snow overnight. Under winter weather advisory but just 2 counties north it's winter storm warning and right above them all the way into Iowa and beyond is Blizzard warning. Winds have been stiff today and bitter but temps have been in the 40s.
IT IS RAINING HERE LIGHTLY NOW' with the sun shining , 51 now with 57 expected for a high. Suppose to drop to 20 in a few hours tonight with 1 or 2 inches of snow ,30 for a high tomorrow.
Lot of difference there!!!
I have been watching the news and looking at the long range weather forecasts ,Weather is doing as well it can trying to give everyone a white Christmas.
Says your expecting drier than normal conditions CG only colder? You talked about about that earlier. Suppose to be about normal here .
What fascinated me was the extreme wet conditions forecast for the upper plains states area . That place has been dry bone gulch since the red river floods ?
Says normal for the states south of here also, wondering though ,do any of you here remember when" weather "was normal?
That or record breaking temps have become the new normal...
We had a high of around 28 today but this morning we were in the teens. Whiteout conditions everywhere, ice under the snow and wrecks everywhere. I managed to get to work no problem this morning but alot of my coworkers couldn't get out. Winds have now died down some so we can see but roads are still in bad shape in spots so school will probably be cancelled again tomorrow. We got 1-2 inches here.
Well some snow about 20 degrees today 12 TO 14 For tonight winter solstice; Happy first day of winter
Did i get it right?
Or should would make moon jokes?
I see the Jello pudding sacrifice must of worked, were all still here,, lol Thought for sure it would end yesterday !! moon crashing in to the earth , sky falling down. sun exploding ... you know ... darn it would of been fun lol?!!!
Freezing rain on Mauna Kea yesterday. At 2200ft we had heavy showers and gusty trade winds. Streams are flowing after being dry for a few months. The flow stops if we don't get rain for 12 hours. Has not gone above 68f for a couple of days. Better today with some sun. Should be nice over the weekend but showers and wind could return next week. Maybe some snow on Mauna Kea. Ground does not dry out so yard work is difficult.
Roads are better today, highs close to 40 with sunshine. My road and driveway are still covered in ice but I live on gravel so it's expected. lol. I think I will end up with my white Christmas since the snow hasn't melted yet. I just want more snow!! LOL
Grey skies, light misty rain with occasional moderate showers, very little wind, cool 68f max. Might get a light snow shower on the summit of Mauna Kea. Forecast for the same tomorrow. Return to damp trade wind weather later in the week.
I am home now from the family Christmas dinner , nice to see everyone! Storm warning has changed! to a Blizzard warning , had a feeling it was going to do that. 31 now with a mild cold wind.. After 1 am or so it is suppose start . 12 or more inches of snow predicted with 40 mph + winds.. This is when winter weather gets interesting?
More colder weather to follow...
You all stay warm, was up to low 70's yesterday...tornado watch today as the cold front goes through us. Pretty breezy this morning, down to 40's tonight...so must go drop the sides to my makeshift green house for my orchids/and vegetables.
Juhur thanks for the snow pics! You all need to put on those snowsuits and post some snow pics. ;-)
sunkissed You do the same with the tornado situation ,we get those too!!!
30 degrees and still coming down.. 8 or 9 here ,10, 12, a little more some places..
It might warm up enough to rain before it freezes ,, Fun!!!????
It was 14 to about 18 here last night for a while , what do ya think CG river and bugs going to have enough?Cold enough to do some of the bugs and cold ,wet, enough to fill the rivers?
How is the greenhouse? ,I lost the other thread some how, Got it up with the goodies going yet?
Those are the kind of pic's I'm talking about. The #4 with the tire...that's great...I'd go out to take that shot, then go in and call in sick. Actually #5 would make me call in sick, 4 might make me walk a bit more around, love fresh snow...been a very very long time...let's put it this way I was not driving yet. ☺
Real sunshine for the first time in almost a week. Rain has backed off and now we just need things to dry out. Got into the 70s today.
I love those pics Juhur. Reminds me of my childhood in England and walking to school in shoulder high snow drifts (Age 10). Roads would run between hedgerows and wind would blow snow off the fields and fill in the roadway to the top of the hedges. English double decker buses did not handle icy roads well.
54. windy, and chilly with rain off and on. I went out while it was sprinkling to uncover the plants, so they could get a drink of water, then washed and dried the sheets. It's supposed to get down to 34 tomorrow night. Not sure what the high is for tomorrow. We need to get the plastic up in the hut for our Makeshift Greenhouse. If Jan. is like Dec. we may not have that many cold days! But there is three more months until Spring! What to do, what to do?????
Chilly night, but absolutely gorgeous day! Supposed to warm up and no more freezes until Friday!
The constant changes are hard on the body...warm cold, warm cold. It does a job on the sinuses and headaches!
The pictures of the snow are absolutely beautiful, but I am very glad that it is you and not us! Several years ago we had snow in December...It actually stuck. It was pretty, but does a job on my tropical plants!
A beautiful 24 degree, sunny day here. Storms have moved on, and is the snow ever bright with all that sun reflecting on it.
8 to 14 night time temps. makes me think of Sleigh rides , hayrides and the like...
Light rain over night and early morning, sun just coming out at 11.00am and about 70f. Ground just won't dry out for gardening. Fair weather and light winds forecast until Monday nite then more frequent showers forecast but nothing heavy.
New years eve is fireworks, usually from 9pm to 1am. Local asian traditions with large strings of firecrackers, lots of noise and smoke in town neighborhoods. Streets covered in red paper by new year morning. Smoke and fire risk were concerns until Honolulu banned most fireworks on Oahu last year. They still allow the strings of firecrackers with a permit.
We still have them on the Big Island but very few in our neighborhood, not many homes. So pray for some showers to keep the fire risk down and wind to blow the smoke away.
Snow coming in overnight. Highs today in low 40s. Ground will still be warm at first so they are saying we will be dealing with icy roads too. Nice...NOT!!! Winter advisory starts at 6am and lasts til 6am Tues morning. Expecting up to 5 inches south of I-70.
I TO 3 INCHES of snow, more snow? It snowed once here last year.. It is trying make up for that.. WE have a 9 degree temperature for tomorrow morning in the forecast.. REALLY i AM STUMPED ,, Sorry I couldn't resist?
Weather liars lied again. Said snow would go south, it went north. Everyone would have snow by 6am. They were off by 2 hours and I was in a big bubble of no snow this morning for some time. It finally started snowing and been snowing off and on since. Not much accumulation til close to dark then it started sticking since the ground was getting cold enough finally. They are saying everyone will have close to 4 inches. I think those who were already getting snow this morning before me will get more. If I see 4 inches in the morning I will be suprised.
Birds loving the snow. Some pics taken thru dirty window. lol
Can anyone say bbbbrrr!!! hahaha. We are having an unusual cold spell, with temps below normal! However, we do get cold temps just not this cold..which is in the 30-40 range now, but should be warmer!! I am not really complaining as I prefer cold to the heat but this cold?? NOT! hahahahaha
Hope everyone is well... I am undergoing health issues that have stumped a few doctors & 2 hospitals!!! Next step...a specialist!!! Otherwise I am hangin in there!!!
Well at this hour it is 47 degrees and I am admiring all the southern gardeners and all that warm weather .
It about to turn very, very, cold here.
Well winter decided to arrive in January.. Has something usual finally happened about the weather? I do not know if to be in shock or awe or not !!!/...
Meaning tomorrow and the day after (cold)
