Costus speciosus?

Maybe a variegated cultivar of Alpinia zerumbet? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55244/

I agree with ecrane3. This photo looks identical. Nice catch Sallyg.

Thanks much for the ID. I had no idea there were so many gingers. I looked at the Costus, but the Alpinia appears to be a much more commonly used plant in US so that also reinforces the ID, to me.
There are two pots in my picture. In the foreground(right ground??) is about the size I picked up for $2. A little cold damage. I felt sure it was basically OK and would be shareable in a year. Now that I think about that, it grew nicely. I hope it blooms next year.

I had one of these growing like weed. Local nursery identified it as variegated ginger, I have no idea what the botanical name would be.

backtobasixmom- I'd say use the link above given by ecrane, and call this a Variegated Shell Ginger, Alpinia zerumbet

Forgot to add the link I mentioned above: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/297408/
