This striking plant was one of many on clearanc e last winter at the big box store. Should be common but i did not find it in plantfiles under ginger which i sure thought it was. Can someone please help?

Thanks much for the ID. I had no idea there were so many gingers. I looked at the Costus, but the Alpinia appears to be a much more commonly used plant in US so that also reinforces the ID, to me.
There are two pots in my picture. In the foreground(right ground??) is about the size I picked up for $2. A little cold damage. I felt sure it was basically OK and would be shareable in a year. Now that I think about that, it grew nicely. I hope it blooms next year.

I had one of these growing like weed. Local nursery identified it as variegated ginger, I have no idea what the botanical name would be.
