Lol susie...did Mr Green Man eat any of them? If you would like: google Greenman to see the historic significance of him for your garden. Wickepedia has great info on the subject>>>>. I'm so glad he made that trip without too many booboos. Ya rather heavy for sure...was going to send another book but jusy not enough room in that box..lol. Sorry about that torn book jacket but thought it was still important to include (almost took it off). Truely..Amazon used books are a bargain for a few $$. And the inside looked great. You should find great info from both authors, and Heavenly pictures of fabulous gardens and how to s. Hope you find a few goodies to start also!!!! Merry Christmas!!!! Kathy

Love the green man and all he symbolizes. Great boxes coming in.
Robyn, I understand about brain farts too. Put a crockpot of stew on, you know, peeling carrots and potatoes, cutting up onions, tomatoes, etc. walk away for the day and when Dave came in after work, I told him to grab a couple bowls and we would eat. He opened the lid and asked, "are we eating vegetarian?" I had totally forgotten the stew.meat!

Kim, still a week til Christmas, so don't fret gal...
roux...wow love that greenman, where's that located.
Susie, ya, hoped you like what was on the inside more. And Martha's got great info and soooo many pix to boot, wish she would talk more about gardening on her shows but has changed her theme to kitchen and inside the house. She used to offer some great advise on tv til they began including a studio audience. And Pam Harper is a Perennial GURU...lol. Should be lots and lots of useful info in both.

Snow 'spose to come in over night tonight...even saying it might Blizzard. I'm ready!!!!!! Pix are what it looks like at the top of the world in summer, tho this area has seen between 2-3ft of snow this last week.

That tree guy is kind of spooky to me...looks like concrete but if he was walking around he must of been foam, amazing what they can do with that stuff.

Kim don't bum too much about the po still lots of time left, but I know you can't help but worry. I mailed on Friday at 9am early, main po, and they kept saying it would be there Monday, well Priority Mail® Out for Delivery December 18, 2012, 8:37 am! I know you shouldn't count the weekend end but that is 5 days... but glad it is showing up hopefully today hopefully in one piece, I am sure they are moving lots and lots of mail...

Love that leaf face Kathy, did you make him? Too cool. Dang wish I would of thought of gardening books or magazines, love to read and reread those when it is cold.
They are promising us snow... ;( I would really rather have rain, hate driving to work and home in snow...yuck. Mostly home at night, I can beat the folks in the morning but in the evening all the non-drivers leave work early, clog up all the roads, and then no one can get home. Suppose to be 55 today then drop down to 16 and have snow...crazy crazy weather.

Happ...go to Amazon used garden books. I'm telling you just the absolute best!!!!!! They start from .01 to $3-4.00 ish. Just depends on what it is you're looking for. But really great ones for .01 EACH...shipping is $3.99, tho, but $4 for books new that could be $40. Ya great... Also my library has a clearance room, and there they are $1 papercover or $2 hardbacks, and have also gotten some great buys there. Remember goodwill usually has a section for a few dollars. I have sooooooooo much reading to do for things aquirred this way..yikes!

Gosh roux thought it was a carvinwith a little boy in front , duh! ..lol.

Did you all hear the big thud when Kim’s box landed on our porch? Oh my gosh, I am thrilled beyond words!
Everything was wrapped so pretty and neat, thought about waiting til Christmas to open…..yeah right, for about two seconds.

The small boxes held a beautiful pair of handmade sterling silver earrings and a matching bracelet with natural garnet semi-precious stones and glass lampwork Rose beads, just beautiful! These are simply amazing, Kim, I know you made them. The paper bag with the tree held a pair of purple gardening gloves, always much appreciated.
Next was a little box like you’d put a gift credit card in. Outside says Joy and inside were four lovely packs of seeds.

Stay tuned…..

The scented 'Frosty Peppermint Snow' jarred candle smells divine and is burning as we speak.

My ornament collection has just grown by two more. One is a Hallmark Keepsake with a Coca-Cola Santa ornament relaxing in his easy chair after the big night while a deer lays at his feet, and the other one is an adorable cuddly knitted Reindeer.

There’s more!

All that would have been a gracious plenty but the gifts just kept coming with two boxes of Yellow and Pink Daffodil bulbs, a box of Folger’s Vanilla Biscotti K-cups to use with our coffee machine along with an instruction booklet about how to reuse the cups for brewing. Last but not least was my card with a Dove, a book entitled ‘Garden Themes’ by Barbara Damrosch and a Garden Gate magazine.

Kim, what can I say except you went way out of the norm including so many thoughtful gifts I’ll use and treasure! What a fabulous job and was totally surprised to learn you were my Secret Santa :)

Wooohoooo!

Today I received a package from Joyce (happgarden) filled with Joy, Love, and Thoughtfulness!! There are no words to express my appreciation but I will say a Simple Thank You. I laughed, cried, and ate up the chocolate and nuts are gone. I probably shouldn't have done that... But at least I took a picture first! The cookie cutter and note attached made me laugh, the Santa night light made me cry...because I love nightlights and I have them all around the house. But none like this and it was as if you knew that? I will try to list everything because there is so much...

Santa Clause Night Light (glass/beautiful)
Christmas Movie Night decorated paint can (LOVE THIS!) it's filled with goodies
2 DVD Movies - Fly away Home & Deck the Halls (with Danny DeVito..who I love) Never seen either movie
Lots of Candies, Popcorn, chocolate
3 tins filled with Candy (MaryJanes and others that reminded me of childhood)
Cookie cutter with funny Poem - she made me cookies but ate them all...LOL Cookie cutter to make my own.
Pecan Chew and chocolate wreath (just a picture of wrapper because I ate that while I was still opening my gifts)
Aloe Socks (Made my day!) I was just saying I need to get me some of those socks...
Christmas Brooch - Love it! and Happy New Year Hat
Popcorn buckets - like the movies...The babies (4 and 5 yrs old) loved them and I popped corn and put it in the buckets for them :-)

Gonna post all the pictures...I think there is more then 5 so I'll post right after too :-)

Doesn't my package look like a bundle of Joy??!!

Yup...Kim great books there...lol, just to let you know I have that same book. But I PAID FULL price for mine...was when it first came out. I got myself some specialty garden books this summer and was thrilled, I'm still eyeing 1...

And Kim what a wonderful package of goodies. DeVito is always great...Now ya just need a snowy nite...Blizzard warnings just came out for here, starting after midnight with up to 50 mile an hour winds and 4-6" of snow. Hey bring that movies on over...lol.

And Fruity, wow what a haul...just to let you know Barbara's husband is Elliot Coleman (veggie gardens are his thing< and actually they are both famous authors). And Pam did such a great job on all the gifts.

Fabulous job girls!!!!!!!

Would any of you be interested in older Martha Stewart LIVING magazines? The ones I have begin January 2000 and end May 2004. Most years are complete and several issues here and there were never opened and are still in the plastic wrap. Anybody want a year's worth or more for postage? Thought offering them by year would give more of you a chance. They will be sent Media Mail to help keep cost to a minimum. If you're interested, feel free to post here or Dmail me with LIVING in the subject line. First come, first served beginning with the year 2000 til they're all spoken for. Since this is the busiest time of the year for mail, I'll hold off mailing until after the Christmas rush. I'd rather offer them to you all before donating the lot to Goodwill.

Oh Kim glad you liked your box. Figured you could put on your infused socks. Plug in your night lite pop your pop corn and curl up Christmas night with your feet up and watch a funny movie then new years night or eve put on your hat and repeat the process.. but it sounds like I should of sent more goodies...rofl.

The little green cans make great seed savers once the candy is gone.

I must confess I wondered why I got the DeVito movie so reasonable at dollar general so while I was packing the box at work I saw where it said previously viewed! So I hope it works and just want to tell everyone cause I sure didn't know they sold used movies..

Have a great holiday.

O.K.--- not liking the looks of the tracking info on my buddy's box :( Took 3 boxes to the post office on the 17th and mailed them-- one of them being my buddy's box! Got tracking #'s on all 3 of them-- one says "delivered" today(right on schedule)-- one says in state it's going to with delivery expected tomorrow(as scheduled)-- and then there is my buddy's box------ says "acceptance" Sept. 17th at 2.23 p.m. & then "dispatched to sort facility" Sept. 17th at 5:28 p.m. and then NOTHING!!!! Says expected delivery date is tomorrow!!!! Called post office to see what they had to say and all they said was that is the only info they have on it and sometimes it takes a while for the system to update !! I am not a happy camper !!! Don't have any idea where the box is and how long it will be before it gets where it is supposed to be!!!! Thought that was what the extra cost for tracking was supposed to be about---knowing where your package is and seeing it get there on time as told!!! FRUSTRATION!!!!! Sorry buddy!!! Hopefully it will show up "SOMEWHERE" and get to you soon!!!

Shilrey,
I know how you feel . I mailed out my box on Dec 6 th. On Dec 12th,it said it was dispatched from Kansas City. My expected delivery date was also the 12th. They told me the same line. It takes the system time to catch up with it. I was told to call the post office after 14 days the box went missing, and they traced the box which is now the 20th. I told him if you can't locate the box now, what makes you think you can local it later. He didn't have answer. I been watching this box every day and nothing. I feel sick over this. I will have to contact the post office again today. I will contact my secret buddy today also. I will have to resend something else out . I am so sorry my secret buddy.

Kathy your blizzard is alive and well in Missouri. Thought I was back in Colorado. Left home at 4am and got here at 6am. The first 30 minutes weren't bad at all and then we went total white out... people in Missouri don't have a clue and were stopping in the middle of the road, and one guy I came up on was driving on the wrong side of the road! We didn't have much snow on the ground but with 50 mile an hour winds the blowing was horrible. All the guy had to do was look at the road down and he could of seen the weeds that were on the side of the road. When I passed him he figured it out. Suppose to have sunshine this afternoon, yes! We got lots of rain last night which was great along with lightening.

My package said it was being sorted up to the day it was delivered...think sometimes the computers get overwhelmed and the auto scanners don't read well...

Patti and Shirley, my box took eight days to get from here to MO. Totally fell off the radar for six of them. But it did get there, I am sure that y'all's will also. Your buddy will understand, don't fret. (I did)
Man the front blew in during the night and I mean BLEW in. We have 38mph winds right now with gusts higher. My French doors in our bedroom blew open in the night, causing me to leap to my feet on the bed, wishing I hadn't moved my gun (TX thing). Dogs were going crazy, and all I could hear was the frantic banging of my wind chimes and the roar of the wind. Dave was still snoring next to me! LOL
Got everything sorted out and locked up the doors, let the dogs out for a bit, then as I am crawling back into bed Dave mumbles if it I am getting up. He was almost a casualty of the storm!
Will be light In a bit and i will have to see if we lost any trees.

Hi everyone,

I received two lovely books from Kathy J. yesterday -- such a nice surprise getting two separate packages! One was wrapped, so I'm saving it for Christmas. The other is a vegetarian cookbook I've never seen before that has lots of new and interesting things I'm excited to try. I've been a vegetarian for more than 30 years and collect cookbooks, so that's saying something!

I'm looking forward to the arrival of y'all's storm later tonight -- right now it's still in the 80s here but our high tomorrow is supposed to be the mid-60s and then 40s tomorrow night! That's Christmas weather around here :) We have a lovely yard-weed, Richardia grandiflora, that makes it looks a little like snow this time of year, but still it just doesn't feel right when you're sweating while decorating the Christmas tree! And certain types of cookies are IMPOSSIBLE to make. I'm off to plant some plants in the hopes that we get some rain tonight :)

Have a very Merry Christmas, everyone!

We were all newbies once and I, along with so many others, have you, Susie, to thank for taking a chance on us! All you awaiting packages you've mailed to be delivered, hold tight and trust that they will be delivered to your recipient soon. They always are even if we do stress over those that were either redirected or don't appear to have moved for days. They're still in the postal system. The concern you've shown is a credit of how much you care :)

Emily, my hat's off to you being a vegetarian. I tried that route years ago but still had a craving every couple of months for a hamburger, of all things. Must not have been eating well enough to stop craving protein. What's the secret to your success for so many years? Enjoy those cookbooks!

Ya'll in the Midwest be safe in the path of snow storms. Are any of you traveling for Christmas?

Participating is an affectionate obsession, or maybe it's an addictive affliction. We are all such good enablers and I do enjoy the camaraderie of exchanging, many times not knowing who's sending to me. That's half the excitement and couldn't imagine a much better pastime.

No secret, I'm afraid -- I just never liked meat at all! It took me until I was six or seven to convince my parents, but once they let me try it I never went back. That's part of why I still collect cookbooks -- people have gotten much more creative in recent decades!

All of you in the midwest, stay safe! Here in south Florida, it is a sunny but WINDY day. Our temps should drop into the 40s tonight -- exciting for us! Should make my brassica patch happier too -- they don't enjoy sustained 80 degree days :)

In addition to cookbooks, do you enjoy using online sources or the Recipe Forum here on Dave's? A friend of mine uses Key Ingredient a lot.

Haven't checked the last few Delivery Confirmation numbers that were provided from you folks who were on my list but do know one of you received your goodies last Monday. I realize this is a super busy time for a lot of you, but please remember to check in when you can -- some of you we haven't heard from in a quite a while -- and please remember to give a proper Thank You to your Secret Santa as soon as you can after receiving your gifts.

How I wish we all lived closed and could exchange gifts in person. That would just be an awesome experience!

Shirley! The lost box has arrived!! And it is wonderful! I am so pleased!
here's the list:
5 chocolate bars, dark, milk, milk w/caramel, dark w/raspberry milk w/almonds
stocking filled w/peppermint

lavender scented :
handsoap
body wash
air freshener crystal beads
reed diffuser
epsom salts bath
bath salts
bath soap

purple bath sponge
5 birds and blooms mags (I love the colorful pics and they are great for decoupage)
and a red bird card!

Shirley took careful note of my likes page and I do LOVE lavender scents. Also chocolates of all persuasions. This was a great box and I am so happy with it. Husband was inquiring about the chocolate so I opened the dark and gave him (small) piece of it. Daughter is here and she said she would like to get a box like this one! I know it was so worrisome what was going on with my box , but it made it safe and sound. You would not know he had been anywhere but straight here. It was NOT beat up at all.

You done good, Shirley!!!

It works wonders !!! Thought you might enjoy the mags to check out and then pass along to someone else you know when you are done-- never even thought about using the beautiful pics for decoupage---great idea!!!! Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! It's out the door and off to work for me--need a little extra time-- roads kind of icy and have to go through open field areas where blowing is awful!! Indeed... such great gifts and so many original ideas too!

Fruit..Chachacha, no worries here. Mail is atrociously unpredictable during the holidays.
I'm not inclined to follow my own advice, for once I had mailed out a box (for another swap) without delivery confirmation, on the 7th of Dec.. and the intended party still hasn't got it. As that person is very honest and it's my fault, I'll just send her another, with purchase of DC next time.

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

So glad my post delivery person has 4 wheel drive because she drove thru the fields to deliver my package to me today...
Oh yeah did I tell you I have snow drifts that are 4 and 5 feet tall...rofl, you have to drive thru the field to get to my house...rofl

I got a very nice card from Alicia, ahoogstra, did you make it? It is really really nice.
Then got a can of tastefully simple butterscotch kisses cocoa mix and a can of malted cocoa mix, I have had tastefully simply products before and they make really good stuff. I will sit down tonight snuggled and make a cup ( or two!) ...since the temps here are dropping like a rock!
Then a beautiful book mark that is really nice and will be put to good use.
Then a really nice set of note cards and envelopes in their own container, the set is in black and white which I know sounds crazy but is my favorite color. Which also looks hand crafted. They are just beautiful. Only problem with beautiful note cards is I hate to use them...rofl...
Then I got a really nice ornament which I know I keep saying beautiful but it is...rofl.
Also a handcrafted fun box with a really cute elf and inside the box are handcrafted ornaments made from polymer clay I think, there is a stoccking, house, and holly all done in green, red, and white.
Wait there is more!
I have a bottle of coconut mango fragrance mist, coconut mango body lotion, and then a bottle of berry twinkle anti-bacterial hand soap all from Bath & Body Works so you know they smell wonderful!
Also a reusable groccery tote that is shaped like a Santa hat and small enough to stick in your purse but expands enough to fit some groceries in. Which will work great for me since I always forget to take the others in the store.
The last but not least... a handcrafted
What a great box and thank you so much...

Joy..toooo cute, had to enlarge the pix...almost missed that live critter in there...lol!

Got my box of presents yesterday, opened last night at family get to gether. Oh thankyou soo much Paula. I just love the handmade ornaments, 4 crocheted angels!! Just beautiful! A wonderful Garden Gnome who I will have many conversations with in the next few months as I do my seeding this winter, lol. And two bags of candy, Bailey's and Kahlua filled chocolates. Yummmm!!! Kahlua just happens to be one of my favorites! I may just have to get the bottle out of the cupboard and have some with my chocolates...lol.

Just have to share this with all of you, got out of one of the books I had sent to dj for Christmas.
"No gift is as beautiful as a flower. In their colors, scents, and shapes, flowers are as various as the moods of the human heart. These are the reasons why flowers are so often the messengers through which emotions, wishes, and thoughts are expressed.
The flowers are all arounds, waiting to speak." From the book: 'The Language of Flowers' edited by Gregory C. Aaron.

Merry Cristmas, and wishing all a bountiful year of flowers to come.

Fruity I didn't know you were doing geneolgy I have been doing it for about 12 years now. I enjoy researching but there is a lot of bad information out on the Internet. I have taken several classes and have come to the conclusion that for me I need 3 pieces of documentation before I accept anything as fact. Besides the documentation is the fun stuff.

Wow, that's a long time. How do you keep your family tree, on Ancestry or where? This is going on my second year and agree authenticating documentation is the way to go. When in doubt, I just skip a record. To get started, I relied on my Mom's and an Aunt's handwritten notes that are mainly names, birth dates, and a few death dates. There were other clues written in our family Bible. One wrong name or spelling during a search can throw the whole thing off kilter and am learning the Census records, among others, are not always correct. Had a heart-stopping moment today though when I found a 1960's photo of my Mom and Dad that I'd never seen, along with two of my paternal Grandfather and his brothers, all posted in a public gallery. Totally made my day!

Evening All!

That's a great idea, Joy. I haven't done any after-Christmas shopping but may see what's available tomorrow before picking up provisions for our New Year's Eve dinner, if you want to call it that. Traditionally we just have a platter of finger foods like olives, deli cold cuts, roasted red peppers, pate, several kinds of cheeses and a variety of crackers, dips and veggies. Might also crack open a nice bottle of wine that was a Christmas present.

We are patiently awaiting the arrival of the last two boxes of pressies. Really do hope they'll be delivered tomorrow since it's the last day of the year to receive mail. Thanks so much for your patience, Jayebird and Shirley! I knew yours would be delayed, Jaye, because of extenuating circumstances beyond the sender's control; and am hoping your buddy isn't sick or having computer problems, Shirley. Also Lanakila, when you have a chance, please show us the gifts you received from Emily.

If you're partying tomorrow night, be safe if you're going out.

Happy New Year to everyone--hope all had a safe and fun evening last night! I was all snuggled in nice and cozy in bed at midnight!! Boys were awake with hubby but as for me , I stayed put nice and warm!! Hope all is well with everyone and glad everyone enjoyed their SS boxes--even the ones that got out late after the dec. 10th deadline(mine being one of them!)-- even with all the best intentions , sometimes things just don't go as planned!! Plan on going through the few seeds i have to see what I should be getting going soon -- didn't start any indoors last year--waited till it was warm enough to start them outside and had much better survival rate but much less bloom rate as they didn't have time enough to mature to blossom stage because of being started so late!! AHHH, what to do this year, that's the BIG question!!!! Anyway, have a great day everyone. Shirley

Nice, Shirley. That book looks really interesting.

OK, Heather, we never did see the Advent Wreath Patti made for you.

We're waiting on one more box to Jaye.

Good evening everyone, Susie hope you feel better real soon--not fun when you're "under the weather". And my SS partner that I received from was Hartzell81(Heather). Was looking through the book a little bit today and it has some interesting things in it. Was a lot of fun participating in the SS swap and interesting to see all the different things everyone got! Have a great evening everyone. Shirley

I meant to ask about what size is it, Patti?

Just undecorated the outside today and hung a wreath up my SIL gave us for Christmas. Sure looks bare out there with the lights and other decorations packed away.
Will tackled the tree this week-end.

I would say it was approx. 20 inches. I shipped it in a big Macy's box I got my dishes in. I also sent 5 purple tapered candles to match with a glass centerpiece. I sent a snowman too.
I wish now I took pictures with the candles in it. She said purple was her favorite color.

While starting to undecorate our tree today, I fondly thought about so many of you who have given me ornaments over the years and carefully packed them to enjoy next year and years to come.

Thank you for co-hosting this year, Susie. You were a great help making this a true Secret Santa.

I believe the last box was mailed to you yesterday, Jaye, and apologize again to the few of you who received after Christmas. I'm at a loss for words for those who haven't posted a proper Thank You. If it helps, know how much I appreciate all of you who did, and the thoughtful gifts you sent.

I want to thank Fruity for such a wonderful swap. I very much enjoyed getting my box and hope my buddy liked her box as much as I did.

I want to thank Susie for co-hosting for Fruity. It takes a lot of hard work to organize a swap this big.

I already started thinking of ideas for the next Christmas swap.

Thanks a million Fruity, you are always the hostess with the mostess! Love ya girl and Susie thank you for all your help you have the co-hostess with the co-mostess. It's been great like always.

Sorry I hadn't got back to say that sooner, My brain went on vacation and left this poor old body in a different state (wish it had been a warm one). I read the posts every day or so and then draw a blank as to what to say.

Joy thank you again for everything, my grand daughter loved the soap and took one bar home with her. SIL ate most of the caramel along with DH and DD and my self almost finished the jar of pickles. She gave me orders to make alot of them this summer. The ornaments (heart and snowpeople) got wrapped in tissue paper and put in my special ornament box to be used for many years to come. Dang squirrels got the acorns though. lol

Alicia if you get a chance will you post pics please.

I agree 100% with the THANK YOU for Susan & Susie for all the effort put into "doing what you do"-- creating a means of fun gift giving & sharing among us-- not only with the swaps but in the sharing/trading of seeds/plants and advice on what to do with them also!!! Yes, there are some stumbles along the way that are out of your control but all in all , I and , I am sure everyone else also, greatly appreciate what you do for giving us the great opportunities! Looking forward to many more swaps/trades and just general "Hellos" in the future!! Have a great night everyone. Shirley

Amen to the special host ladies!

I can gladly report the slacker of the swap finally came through. Jaye's box was delivered yesterday, along with a sincere apology for lateness.

I signed up for 17 credit hours this semester. The good news is only Mondays are later than 4pm...but my mornings will be crazy!

Carey! Yes the box was here, but I got it today! Confused?
As usual the carrier left most packages at DH's shop which is next door, instead of coming up to our house and ringing the doorbell. Only time he'd come up is when my signature's required. :(
DH's mind's been crammed with so many little fires, he just remembered about it.

Thank you for the charming card.. the lovely coaster and the very heavy, wonderful froggy candle!! That looks so much like an old time treasure! You read up on my likes didn't ya?
The beautiful mug didn't survive the journey, Carey.. so I shan't include it in the picture. Love the red and green Christmasy colors.

Not included in the box too is a confirmed Joann's gift card which is heading towards MY mailbox, being it's in an envelope!
This weekend, DH and I will be making that road trip and I'll certainly be shopping, guilt free @ Joann's.
You're such an enabler!
Carey has indeed been very generous with her gifts.

I celebrate Jesus everyday, so you're not late at all Carey.
Thank you again for taking your time to make this box such a special one.

Thanks Fruity for a superb swap. I may not say much, but I did oohed and aaahed over every single piece of Christmas joy you all get.

Fruity just reminded me that I had not posted a pic of the goodies that Emily sent me. I did send her a message when I got it, but couldn't take a picture at the time and a family emergency just held me up even longer. So very, very sorry for the delay Emily! What you don't see in the pic is the peppermint bark and cookies 'cause they didn't last the afternoon when I got the package. :)
