My daughter found this green seed pod on the ground at the edge of the woods near our house. It's about 4 inches long. It is very lightweight and almost feels like fake fruit, but I don't think it is fake. She is dying to know what kind of plant it is from.

(we live in central NC if that helps)

The fruits remind of Calotropis procera, but I don't think it should be growing in NC
