It's a Berberis but which one, I can't tell. The best way to verify if it is a Berberis is to rip off a leaf/stem, without getting those spines in your hand, and if the stem shows an orange colour inside, it's a Berberidaceae.

Could be Berberis pruinosa.

Thank you for your great help in ID-ing my 'Darwin Barberry' - We just call it a Barberry Bush here...
When I get a chance I'll 'look for the orange colour inside'!!
