I grew this Aechmea from seed, its leaves are all-green and the plant is about 2 feet high. It looks like an A. gamosepala (matchstick plant) but the flowers are pink or red (can't remember which colour came out first) instead of purple, and the stem is covered with flocky white hairs. The seed pods look like elongated mauve raisins and contain 50-60 tiny seeds.

Can anybody identify this particular variety? Thanks in advance.

I did run across A araneosa which is described as having " white hairs like a spider web" and has red/rose blooms.

Thank you for trying, but the flower stem on mine is white and floccy, not red, and the flowers look more like A. gamosepala, but pink and red, not purple. I have attached another photo which might be more helpful. A. araneosa has many flowers on a subsidiary stem from the main one, while mine has many flowers on the main flower stem.

BTW, Is there a limit on image size sent on this site? When I tried to reduce mine to 100 x 100 px it was almost unviewable. Or is that only the thumbnail?

    Thanks again.
