Is this a Caladium? It is low growing and leaves are variegated.

I remember receiving some of these at a previous employer but the grower was so hasty to get them to market at a high price, they were poorly rooted. I guess all the tissue culturing doesn't help either.

they are now getting to be common here - as a group, the "Thai hybrids" need more light than the typical "Chinese Evergreens" and dislike cool temperatures more noticeably.
