The first is Agave americana (I believe) and the second photo is Agave parryi v. truncata. For safety and lawsuit sakes I cut off the spines. Some may think that it destroys the beauty, which is does to varying degrees, but when they are along or near the sidewalk (poor planning on my part) they are dangerous, and I work all over the yard and they are dangerous for me. So off with their heads!! Xuling
