We've had several large trees die on the property and want to make sure the next time this tree is pruned it is a safe time of the year to do it.

    1) What kind of tree is this?
    2) Are there good and/or bad times of the year to prune it?

    Thank you in advance,
    parkerea

Thank you -- that is it!

BTW, now that I know what it is, I found some references that say it is "very amenable to pruning" and can be pruned just about any time:
"if you cut an old pittsporum back in mid
summer, regrowth will be very slow. If you
cut it back in fall or spring, regrowth will
    be more rapid and successful"
    (from http://patwelsh.com/wpmu/blog/trees/pruning-victorian-box/)

    Thanks again,
    parkerea
