Ok…This one is throwing me completely…This was given to me by my BIL…He says it's a "Confederate Rose" Agave sp. I've had it for a year now, and it doesn't seem to grow at all! Not sure what I'm doing or not doing right. The second picture is another one he gave me, saying that it is the same plant. Really? Love to hear what you all think. Thanks!

it does look like two Agaves.
I always thought "confederate rose" referred to a Hibiscus.

Could the "Confederate rose" part be a cultivar name?

Don't know these plants well enough to have an opinion, but a google of "agave confederate rose" turned up many links:

Hi! Yeah, thanks! Vestia, When I heard my BIL say Confederate Rose, I too immediately thought Hibiscus.
purpleinopp, thanks also…Yes, many links…In fact the one I found here at DG is Agave 'Baja'…Which I will be looking at a little more closely.

But the two, in my opinion, don't look alike…Maybe growing in different 'conditions'?

That may mean your BIL just thinks it is the same plant because he sees Agave... not the differences in the agaves...SO MANY Agaves!!!! I think that is normal growth for the first pic- I see those small, not large...

I might have agreed with that, kittriana, except that he said it was a 'pup' from the original plant. That's why I was kind of leaning towards the possibility of growing conditions. Hmmm….

Shame your bil didnt take a pic of the mama plant! No, I don't think growing conditions. Too much difference as a pup. Dunno where our succulent experts are...
