-10 this morning. Maybe this will be the coldest morning of February.
Good month to start some plants, get seeds ordered, make that garden plan.
Just think about the good eating this summer from a well thought out garden.

Wonderful start to February. Blustery winds and rain showers for a few hours this morning but now the sun has come out. White fluffy clouds blowing on a moderate trade wind off the blue Pacific. Climbing to mid 70's this afternoon. Weekend should be perfect Hawaiian weather, balmy trade winds and lots of blue sky after nightime showers. Hope this picture warms you up a bit.

We started out in the mid 40s and are now down to the low 30s. Temps peaked at noon today and started dropping after that.

We have only had 4.3 inches or so of snow this season. This is gonna be one dry year!!

Last four days were 40 in the morning, and a bit of frost on the roof tops, had to keep the tomatoes and peppers and orchids in my makeshift green house. But warmed back up this morning 54 and they say up to 78. A slight chance of rain, and we sure could use it, fire danger warnings for all of Central FL.

The live oaks are dropping their leaves, and new ones are coming in, this is much earlier than normal. Time to start the raking. Ugh!

Keep warm you all!

My azaleas are just wonderful this year. Some spring for you all...not too much longer...hang in there.

-20C (-4F) and tons of snow here (we have 3x the normal amount)! We've got the snow pack to give the United States tons of cold but the moisture off the Pacific keeps heading up here (this week though it is forecasted to head below the border). :D

It also looks like we will be sending our cold South today and again in a couple of days.

The States below us desperately need some form of moisture...either an absurd amount of snow or a tropical rainstorm! The United States drought monitoring map is terrifying to look at.

Sorry Sunkissed if it makes it all the way down there...I know you tropical folks really don't want it!

I was however hoping it would make it down to some of the Great Plains states and run into some moisture along the way. Cool temps means any moisture would soak into the ground instead of evaporating right away. I know some fellows in Texas, at a weather site I belong to, are praying for rain and below normal temps (really any moisture at all to break the drought there). I personally would love the States ie South Dakota and those below to get one heck of a good rain and then snowfall so they climb out of extreme drought. If they don't they will fry this summer and my province will either have really dangerous tornadoes again or else eventually join them in drought.

Back in 1987 or 1989 We had a few days of below zero weather in fact one of the coldest ever, a actual temperature of -32 F with a 30 to 50 mph wind and that was really cold ,we don't get like that often but it does happen..

and with the above cold air a negative trough is now out there...someones are in for a storm (ranchers in Texas will be pleased).

A negatively tilted trough is one which is the most recognized and has the most importance. This is because the way it is positioned will allow a storm to grow and strengthen. Colder air will have the ability to lay on top of the warmer, more humid air that the storm is feeding from. With cold air aloft and warmer air closer to the ground, instability is created, allowing for convection and strengthening to occur.

Praying you and South Dakota get a whole lot more Bernie...that drought is just way too close for comfort. I had some of the weather expert Texans tell me that it will be very hot just below the international border (and here) if a WHOLE lot of snow didn't fall down there. I've been turning on every fan I have to add Saskatchewan Screamers to every Alberta Clipper that is flying though here. We've had blizzards about every 2nd day for I don't know how long now. Happy to see the cold is hitting the moisture that is finally going across the American Great Plains.

We ended up with about 14 inches last night. I was shoveling the deck and a couple other paths today and sank up to my knees in it. Warmed up to about 27 today. Quite toasty!! lol. We have more rain and snow coming in on Monday.

The first pic is some birds loving the snow. The second one gives you an idea of how hard it was coming down. We were getting 2-3 inches an hour.

Oh boy if those forecast models in La La Land verify you folks aren't going to be happy!

I would seriously start looking at snowmobiles, snowshoes and heavy parkas.

(keep an eye on your long term forecasts for next week and for the next 3 after...esp those in Kansas and the American mid west).

Some of you might remember me. I thought I'd come back. I still do Cubits, but I want to get back with my DG peeps, too.

Chilly morning, but not atypical. As usual, we could use some rain but there is nothing in the forecast.

Hi Kelli!! Welcome back!!

I feel like I'm gonna need that snowmobile. They are now calling for 6-10 inches of SNOW!!!!!! Rain Monday then late Monday afternoon-night changes to snow and we will have blizzard like conditions again if not an actual blizzard. I had to call in work (along with alot of others) for Thurs. Looks like I may be doing it again Tues. *sigh*

Other weather news: Today was sunny and once it got out of the single digits of around 4* this morning it warmed up nicely. My dad and I went out and worked on the driveway some more to make it easier to get in and out. We used our electric shovel and hand shoveled.

This is our shovel we used. It does pretty good in light snow but this is a little much for it. Have to shave layers off. http://www.hsn.com/products/greenworks-7-amp-12-electric-snow-shovel/6294047?query=6294047&isSuggested=True

Winter storm warnings go into effect tomorrow afternoon. Expecting whiteout conditions starting tomorrow night lasting all thru Tuesday. We will get anywhere from 10-20 inches possibly. This is on top of the 11-14 inches this area already has. They are saying this storm will be alot worse than the last one.

Today though was sunny, blindly so with all the snow, and temps reached low 40s. Didn't even touch the snow on the ground but roads and roofs are clear for this next round.

There was a little bit of frost this morning. No rain in the forecast. We've had 5 or 6 inches of rain since October. It looks like it is going to be another drought-ish year.

We are just seeing the end of a week of gales, heavy rain and snow on Mauna kea. Sunday they were skiing and snowboarding at 11,000 ft level after 12 inches of snow. Down at see level we have had almost 10 inches of rain over three days and for a week we never saw the sun. Sunny today with the low pressure system moving off to the southeast and things should return to normal.

We recieved another 10-14 inches of snow on top of what we got last week. We will get another few inches overnight into tomorrow. Luckily our driveway has just been plowed by a friend of ours so we will be able to get out tomorrow.

Lots and Lots of birds today!! That's not even all of them.

Another day of snow. Woke up to another few inches then mid morning it started snowing again and kept snowing til late afternoon so we got another inch or two on top of that.

Pic 1 is a shed in my yard. Looks like a black and white pic doesn't it? It's not. None of these are. lol

Pic 2 is a holler on my road. That is the only bridge on our road and farmers always bend the rails back so they can get thru with their equiment.

Pic 3 is another holler on a nearby road. About 2-3 miles from my house. This spot always melts last. On either side of the road thru there is a big hill that blocks alot of light.

Roads were so so today as you can see. Open areas drifted real bad and I had a few moments where I didn't think I would make it thru but I did.

Oh my Pepper! Y'all have really had alot of snow!

It was chilly this AM. It warmed up a little this afternoon. May actually reach 32 on Sunday.

Generally when they forecast a freeze it is for our more Northern counties. We generally stay 3 deg. warmer...but not always! I'll wait and watch the weather, Friday Night before I decide to go out and cover everything up. Oh, I guess that is tomorrow night!

Most of the plants look pretty good. A couple have died...oh well. One airplane plant needed water. I should have left it in the garage and just watered it myself. Took it outside. It rained. It got water. It got cold. It died. You win some, you lose some. Oh well. It was one that was a starter from one my granddaughter had started in elementary school years ago...Such is life. I'll go see if any of the others lived and put them in the garage!
