    Yes, they are both orchids. Haven't found exact ID though.

    Could they both be Orchis Collina?

    That is a possibility...from the pictures, they both appear to have the large fan lip. Lynne, I think the "accepted" name for them is Anacamptis collina. This link lists a number of species/varieties/synonyms

    I can generally tell what is an orchid and what is probably not, but afraid I am not a lot of help beyond that.

    I know the feeling! There are so many similar ones. I've seen quite a few different ones in Spain in Jan/Feb but never this one and never seen any so close to the coast as these were.

    Lynne, these links ID the February blooming orchids as Orchis colina (fan lipped) and Ophrys speculum (mirror ophrys)

    We also saw the Mirror Orhrys, but higher in the mountains.

    I think it is probably safe to say that the orchids in question are Orchis species and more than likely Orchis colina. What say you?
