I'm not up to hostessing right now but I might be interested when another one comes up.
I love seeing all the fun borders and some creative additions. Some GREAT ideas! I had a Fons & Porter "Quick Quilts" in my hands today and talked myself out of it. I have PLENTY of started projects and don't need more ideas. I just need to buckle down and get some sewing done, get some quilts DONE!!!
Let's see... we started this one last summer, right? Let's see if we're finished this one by late Spring, and if so, I'll host another one - this is a Great way to bring out the creative genius in all of us!
Barb posted (in response to my comment about seeing the finished quilts):
I need to save up to have mine quilted. I can't do big pieces like this anymore... Maybe when income tax refund comes in..
Take your time Barb - after all, we'd given a timeline of May to have the tops back, and they're starting to come in now! Hate to jinx it, BUT - we're ahead of the game
I'm here playing with your Susan..not an easy feat with the border of black and peacock colored strops..can't just sew them on sides and top edging of the piece, means muttered corners and the piece doesn't quite measure so I can match corner miter..what to do what to do, will have to be the best I can do right?
Could you perhaps put a block of some kind in the corners? Then the stripe would not need to be quite as long? I'm pleased to see the tissue paper still covering the center. DO NOT IRON over it. The paint will run!!!!
If I were to take off the 1 1/2 border of peacock feathers, nthen take border of 3 thin lines off the main border it would likely work..the strips were so much longer than the piece I just didn't think once sewn and inverted that the one strip wouldn't be long enough...Susan you don't have extra do you?
I agree with Barb, a corner block will solve a lot of problems. A simple pinwheel would be nice. I LOVE that peacock quilt top and you ladies have done an incredible job of finding the right fabrics to go with it.
I just spoke to Betty, and she's going to remove some of the blue pinstripe from the outer material I sent (with the black and flowers) on the inside edge. This will make it just small enough that she can miter it with the same material.
did remove the pinstripe, still not enough to miter, barely enough to go around the piece..the 4 pieces were already cut to length when I got them but they so match the piece and is striking that one can't use them..so not truly happy with how they match up in the corners, so what to do, what to do, thought if I followed Barb's piping idea it might take the eyes from it, also included in the package was another fabric which I imagine all were bought at same time as to compliment the piece..added some peacock piping that I bought to what was sent (which was limited in length..tried to match design) and now the piece is quite dark in color..almost tempted to take the last row apart, wait until tomorrow, find some white and piece blocks or something..not quite sure, perhaps the next home I send it to can add the white...
Sorry Susan, I'm whinning today..just a tad harder to match when fabric isn't to size..know you are understanding and will say 'it's fine' when it's not
Honesty please..shall I take them off this evening???
off to make lunch..let me know if you want me to take last border off (still have one strip left to sew so would only mean 3 sides to rip off
Susan, just wanted to clarify, I sent to top to Cher????
Betty - I'm not just saying this... BUT the original instructions were that the person who gets the piece is to make the decision, based on their sense of style/colour, etc, and I know you have a wonderful sense of style/colour!! Please do what you think looks best. I only sent that material because I had it, and it wouldn't "go" with anything else. I've had it for a long time, and never did find something that matched it. If you take the black border off and send it back, or keep it, I really am NOT bothered one way or another. The point is to have a bit of everyone's decorating on the center.
Please take this pressure OFF your plate, and treat it as if it were yours - what would YOU add?
I'm being perfectly honest when I say this!
1. Susan (sends to Linda Kay)
2. Linda Kay (sends to Barb)
3. Barb (sends to Audrey)
4. Audrey (sends to Betty)
5 Betty (sends to Cher)
6. Cher (sends to Susan)
When I added the narrow strip of burgundy to Susan's top, it was to bring out the tiny amount of it from the center. I love how you repeated the narrow border too Betty - it brings cohesiveness to the quilt. Great job...
Thank you but still not happy with it..thought it might have been due to sewing while still not up to par but this morning I've had time to think it out..if you see where the floral strips meet it doesn't look like a continuation of design..cut straight..well, there is only a couple of inches left of that particular fabric, tonight I will play cut out, put a leaf which overlaps the seam and applique thus hidding the straight cuts..then, I think I shall be pleased!
Will ship it out in the next couple of days along with one more that I'm trying to find the note on..brought it to work this morning, at lunch I shall go to the fabric shop and purchase a light fabric..who knows maybe tonight I can finish it.
Oh, I think I remember - Thunder, didn't you contact Anita's daughter, and she said she was ill, and would be working on the top(s) in March when she felt sure she'd be better? Oh am I remembering it incorrectly... ?!?!?!
Evening all, couch looked mighty inviting but I gave myself a push and finished the two pieces I had..will mail to Cher first thing in the morning.
If you look at the last photo of Susan's piece you will see where I was not happy with the end result..you could see clearly where I had sewn the corners of the floral pieces..with a little bit of cutting and applique the corners now blend in..I'm much happier..now if someone looked closely and inspected the piece you would notice, just say it was meant to have layers..lol. Can you dine it in this corner?
Susan, just for you I took the tissue paper off the center and took a photo.
Then LindaKay's..although I was to add Audrey's and mine I did add 3 but they total the same as though I'd followed the directions..ooops that is me, not following directions...oh well..they are both behind me now..I am sending fabric that was sent with the piece..was going to use it but it had a lot of silver and the insert had a lot of gold so I went with gold..including it in the package.
trying to figure out, is there another coming my way???
Betty - how rude of me... wanted to tell you - FANTASTIC job on my quilt!!!
I called Bob over to look and we can't believe how wonderfully you "fussy cut" the corners! wow, wow, wow and wow again!
And now one more border by Cher and it's DONE! yikers!
and the Angel - how delightful it looks!
btw - I think I said "end of May" for them being done, but I was wrong. Looked at original post and I guess I said "end of April". whenever they are done, they're looking great!
Left home a bit earlier, dropped into post office here in Barrie and got Susan and LindaKay's piece mailed to Cher..will d-mail them to advise of tracking number. Charge $4 extra but well worth it to confirm it's been sent.
Was ambitious this morning, got 3 placemats quilted and binding on so I can hand sew at work so that I'm kept out of mischief.
I also am waiting for Cher's piece, now to find out where it is..with you Susan??? remember you saying you had a few to do??
oh, I've mailed them out months ago - before I started this job (that was end of November).
I've sent off all I received.
I had Cher's and added a little bit of a kerchief - thought it was appropriate lol
I put the wrong one of Cher's here - This is it, after my addition lol
Sure is fun to meet up with friends. Norm and I rode to Derry this morning to meet up with Cheryl (cheriffic) and pass on Audrey's quilt top to her. I gave her batting and she is getting backing and is going to quilt and bind it for Audrey. We are hoping it will bring a smile to get a finished quilt and let her know we care and that we hope she is better soon.
We had breakfast together and just chatted away - bless Norm - he is so great about meeting and greeting with all my quilting friends. Several years ago a bunch of us went on a shop hop together and Norm drove for me and four other ladies. We went to seven shops and he was so good with everyone. I think he did that for the free meal at the Chinese restaurant we stopped at for lunch!!!! Seems if food is involved, he's all for it!!!!!
And yes, I know Betty tried to shanghai my Norm, but when I hold on tight nobody has a chance of getting him. And now that he goes to Maine for his job occasionally, I have a source for some Tim Horton's as well. I just can't get the English Toffee one that I love so much. It is only sold in Canada. A reason to return there I'm thinking!!!!
LK - I can't find the old receipt from sending Cher's to you, but I know I did - I don't have it, and I sent 2 batches out that day - to Mittsy and LK - Cher's was to go to you, and I know I don't have it anymore.
I also remember that I waited until Mittsy was back home before sending the 2 packages out.
Unfortunately, I didn't list whose centers were being sent, on the receipt anyway - just "fabric" or something like that.
so, either it's gotten lost in the mail, or Mittsy has it... I'll contact her...
Yes, Cher is in group ONE!
And I know I asked Mittsy (who's in Group TWO), but just because I was sending to both groups at the same time, and may have mixed Cher's (1) in with what I sent to Mittsy (2)... but then she sent everything on to Pat...
I hope you do have it LK...
"I contacted anjl , Pat's daughter , and Pat said she would be working on what she had after the holidays? but I am not sure what she had??? and I do not know what Anita has???" (end post)
I d-mailed Anita and she is sending on 2 or 3 centers to me (she has to check on how many), so maybe Pat's and Thunder's centers are included?
1 Susan (sends to Mitsy)
2 Mittsy (sends to Pat)
3. Pat sends to Thunder
4 Thunder (sends to Anita)
5. Anita (sends to Susan)
Cher, tracking info says LindaKay and Susan's quilts are now with you..

Ok Betty I did not realize you sent it to be hand delivered and I work 10 1/2 hours a day so if it is at the post office I am afraid it will have to wait until Monday when I have the day off. I will check for the post office slip asap when I get home tonight I promise.
Cher - I know that yours and Anita's groups are different (you're in Group 1, and she's in Group 2), BUT when I sent a pkg to Linda Kay & Mittsy, it's possible I put yours in the wrong destination cuz it Should have gone to LK after Mittsy and she doesn't have it.
Anita has 2 or 3 centers she said, and she was going to check to see if I'd sent your doggy to her... She has to get some fabric, and she's working mega hours as well.
As soon as I / We hear from her, I'm hoping that she has it.
I know, Thunder, but as I'M in 2 groups I send to both of them. I sent to LK & Mittsy
Remember, I have two centers "on the go" so we would have the same amount of people in each group (just in case "life happens" and some are "filling in" for others, as has already happened 2x).
Thunder - your "sent from" and "sent to" people on either side of you (Pat & Anita) are where yours may be, and Anita is sending me some centers. Heck, Mine (butterfly) is "missing" too, for that matter, but I know they have to be with one of the two ladies.
As soon as we get some feedback from Pat & Anita, we'll know where they are...
Betty - I'm the lucky one. I'm in two groups, so I will get at least one completed top back.
I feel really badly for those who don't know what's happening.
Heck, we all know life happens to us all, and just knowing what's going on is wonderful. If the dog ate a piece, the world won't come to an end - at least we'd KNOW.
I remember I didn't send the 5 I had (3 for one group & 2 for the other) right away (from June to end of October) and I apologize profusely for the delay, but they Were sent.
I sent off 5 - Anita's, Audrey's, Barb's, Betty's, & Cher's - to their respective groups.
Anita is sending me 3 more (not sure whose centers however - could be Mitsy, Thunder, mine, Dorothy, Anita, Pat).
That makes 8 centers we know where they are. There should be 12 for both groups. Not sure which two are really MIA because I'm not sure which one's Anita has. Would be nice if she had 5... then we'd Know, right?
I understand it's the not knowing... but I am confident we will have them, as Betty said, "come out of the wooodwork" :-)
I am soooooo happy to see you finally got it. I was really getting worried, especially when you said something was sent back to sender and I hadn't received anything back!!! It was a pleasure doing your quilt Betty and I'm so glad you are happy with it.
I've been following this and watching all the beautiful work being completed. I'm hoping the MIA centers turn up quickly and everyone can breathe easier. I know how heartbreaking it can be to have a wonderful piece of art go missing.
I sent a c-mail to Dorothy's sister, Marti, just in case centers sent to her were not sent to Anita (who is sending centers to me...)
I've asked about Pat's deer, Thunder's sun, Cher's puppy, and my butterfly.
I also d-mailed to Pat (Anjlsmom) to see what centers she may have, and if she can't do them, to send them on.
Pat just c-mailed me:
"I am working on the centers now. Should have them out by next week sometime. I have your center, one that is red/black/white with a dog center and on that is purple/green/yellow/orange. Don't remember who they belong to. Sorry it has taken so long. Have had a hard time getting motivated this winter. Hopefully I will do better now.
Thanks for all the hugs. Pat"
so Cher - your puppy is with Pat, and Anita - so is your center, and my butterfly center!!
I was wrong - it's Thunder's center that Pat has, not Anita's.
From the description, that's whose it would be.
And I sent her a c-mail saying to send the puppy to LK, and gave her LK's address.
Now she only has mine & Thunder's to work on...
Susan, I think it's Anita's Batik pinwheel that Pat has along with Cher's doggie as they were sent together. I sent them to Pat on the 4th of December. Thunder's hasn't been to me yet so I couldn't have sent it on.
Well, here's hoping Anita sends them quickly, so we can get back on track. Yes, you're right, Mittsy - Cher's doggy & Anita's batik pinwheel were sent together...
I'm going to do them, instead of Anita, because she just can't get to them. She said she'd send some fabric too. If it gets the fabric soon, all the better!!
YES, it's wonderful that your puppy has been Found!
as for the other center Pat has - it's not Thunder's center - it's Anita's. Pat confirmed it this morning, when she said it's a square.
I expect Anita has Thunder's center, but I haven't heard any confirmation of whose she has. She did say 2 or 3.
I'm waiting to get them from Anita, so I can work on them and send them to Thunder. (who will then pub her borders on, and send to me again lol).
Thunder - as I'm adding to Anita's for Pat (4"), and Dorothy (5"), then you would be afterwards, and send Anita's center to her - is that ok? Normally you would be between Pat's and Dorothy, but there's no point in having me add for Pat, sending to you for your border, then back to me to add for Dorothy... It means your border will be the last, ok? It will be a 4" border for you, rather than a 5", so saving you a bit of fabric :-)
yes, I agree, Pat
I thought of it myself about a month ago when this kerfuffle started...
I'm really happy with the Round Robin, over-all though, and would do it again.
I know that "life happens" however... if a commitment couldn't be kept, it would have to be clearly stated that they "own up" and send the pieces to the next person, right away.
There is no "wrong" or "blame" attached. It just is what it is...
From the outside looking in, I think it IS a very successful swap and I wish I had the time to have joined in. I hope no one thinks I was trying to critize or blame in any way. LIFE does happen!! All we ever can do is the best we can and try to make things work out. DG quilters are ALWAYS a supportive kind group that are WONDERFUL understanding people full of grace and love.
no, it doesn't... maybe it's too large (pixels...)?
You're welcome, Betty - it's really a joy to work on so many diverse ideas/patterns/colours!
Maybe, once this is finished as a project, we may look at doing this again?!
I would hold it to one group I think though... 6 people.
Mable, a round robin is where you send out a center for your own quilt, send it to the next person in the list, and they add a border, then send it to the next person, by the time it gets back to you, you have a completed quilt top, for you to add the batting and backing.
Another month has gone by. I would like to request that my quilt top be returned to me as it is, if I don't get it soon, we'll be in closing up the house mode and I won't stand a chance of getting it finished before we leave. Peggy lives here so it would save me having to ship it back. Thank you.
Mittsy I think you should send a dmail to Susan and let her know you want the quilt back now. I'm not sure if she checks here on a daily basis or not. I have her email address. Would you like me to send her a message?
I have 3 borders I needed to have put on it... because of those that had dropped out (for multiple reasons) - Anita, Dorothy (who has passed away..) and mine.
I hope you like it. I'm finishing it today, then it's yours...
Mittsy - have added 2 of the borders, and will have the 3rd one on tonight. I'll then send it to you.
The other ones that are to also go to you I will work on after I've sent your, then will send them to you as well.
Mittsy - I've gotten 2 rounds put on ur top, and 50% of the 3rd - now I'm doing a wee bit of embroidery in the 4 corners, so it matches the fact that you have embroidery in the center. Mind u, mines smaller and hand-embroidered, not the professional look of yours, however, I just thought it "cried out" for a continuation of types...
Darlin', I sure hope you like it! Once I have all 4 corners done, and attached, I'll post a pic.
Then I'll send it right away, before I send the rest, so you can get yours done for the Christmas present I know it's to be.
ok - I have Thunder's, Betty's (with the angel panel? and a 4" border to go on), Mittsy's (finished, just waiting to go out with other's), Dorothy's (going to Mittsy's when I'm done, to then go to Mittsy for completion to go to Dorothy's sister - Mary),
Does anyone have Mary's address or ph#? Send me a d-mail if you do.
Susan, I would like to add to Dorothy's. She was in my group. I have Mary's address some where I think. Would have to dig.
Not Betty's . Hers is done. An Angel I would guess is Linda k's
I have yours with butterflies. And another I think is Anita's. Someone should have a deer, that is Pats. (Angelmom) not the doc... the deer was sent to Dorothy.
It would be fine with me if you just add one round, and send mine back to me...
Yes, once I took a breath, I opened up my computer folder which shows which center belongs to whom.
I just called Betty - to hear a friendly voice. Thank you, Betty :-)
No, Thunder - I will get yours done the way it's to be finished, and get it to you.
I am "back on track". I tried to deny it, but I know I was going through depression. Now, I'm feeling - things will be what things will be. There's lots of fabric sent with yours, Thunder.
I have the deer, so will look on my set of "instructions" to see where I am "in the mix" to make sure I have the correct # of borders to put on.
As Anita & Dorothy's borders were not put on, I am doing theirs as well.
Within 2 weeks, they will all be done - there are, after all, only 3 centers, regardless of how many borders for each.
I'm just pleased that Mittsy's was done. It took awhile to get the embroidery done, but it is now...
Susan, just now company left, wouldn't you know you'd call when life here was a bit hectic..could hear in your voice more of the old Susan.. Felt so badly that I had to cut you short..didn't like doing that.
Thank you, Betty - It was great to hear your voice - perked me right up.
I am doing fairly well with this depression. Still finding it difficult to go out of the house. There are some things I force myself to go to. Things I started a year ago, or more, I go to - meetings, etc. Church board, Community Garden board, Bible Study every Thurs am, and Choir practice every Thurs eve... most times it's overwhelming and it's all I can do to go, but I do.
Oh Susan, yjank you for persevering. Sending you a big hug (((( )))), it's just lovely and I know Peggy will love it whenever she gets it. Depression, ah yes, it's a constant battle to keep it at bay. Was prepping vegetables at church for our big festival which starts tomorrow and I just lost it. Just got news that another of our small christian community members has throat cancer. He's had trouble speaking for three years , was misdiagnosed. He went to Shands and they found the tumor. Operated on him and now it's chemo or radiation. Won't know about his voice for awhile yet. So all you prayer warriors out there, please say one for Ken.
It looks like my box (thoughts of you swap) is in Atlanta. It's appalling to know how broken the postal system is. Mailed on Sept 20th from TX. As of this am it is in Atlanta sort facility.
I've borrowed a machine from Judy so I hope I can get some sewing done. Part is on order so I should be able to get some embroidery done soon.
We'll be leaving soon to go back to church to do steak on a stick, chicken marinated in garlic and teriyaki sauce , sausage. peeling jumbo onions for bloomin onions and whatever other prep work needs to be done today. The NE clam chowder is a winner, we look forward to it each year.
(((((hugs back atcha, Mittsy)))))
I was feeling I was letting you down, so I thank you for your kind words.- makes me feel better (teary eyed here).
Will add Ken to my prayers... so sorry about the misdiagnosis. That happens way too often. Drs who "need" the $$ rush patients through, and don't "listen" to what's being told them...
LK - I just noticed something about the fabric I'm putting on for your border...
It's a "music" fabric... and there are the musical bars, with small pics of musical instruments. Only problem is - if I go by the musical bars, the instruments are upside down and vice versa...
Which would you prefer?
I suppose the fabric was on sale because of the two "passes" to make the pattern, one was put upside down...
hmmmm well, my feeling is to have the musical bars correct, but the piano is very prominent... so the "mistake" shows more hmmm
Correct and prominent, or incorrect and looking alright...
I'll have it mulled over in my mind before I go to sleep tonight... will also ask Bob's opinion.
yeah, what they said...
Pat - even inexpensive is too expensive with both of us our of work. As I said earlier - only when I'm "required" to go out, do I do so... Home is much more peaceful, and less demanding... Even my computer is something I can "step away from" when I'm overwhelmed...
I'm not "senior" status yet - will be 60 in March, but that's not "senior" to a lot of companies that are supposed to "help"...
I'm sorry Susan, that sucks. I know many of times I have been envious of those with "coverage" that actually "covers" for the things we have needed and had to go without or been paying on for MONTHS and sometimes years.
These days it's scary even if you have coverage. Finding what we thought we had isn't there any more or they have found new ways to charge for what used to be included. Our hospital is charging a "usage fee" for any thing done at the hospital. Also the hospital owns several of the medical buildings. So if we see a Dr. who has an office there, once again we are charged the "usage fee". This is over and above what is charged as our co-pay.
One drug I take is very expensive, by covered by insurance and grants. Early last year a mistake was made somewhere between the drug company and the insurance company. I didn't do it but I was charged for it. Been making payments for months on that.
Between yesterday and this morning did 3 Joann's for me and a zillion shops for the other 3 girls..we always take my little sonic, omg had to go out and purchase space bags and a pump to take air out of them so I could fit my portion of fabric/notions in the car..of course I just had to buy a roll of 90" x 20 yards of batting. Lol.
Little more Christmas fabric, wondering WHY? (as I grin)
Thread/thread/thread and also as Barb said, adhesive spray was so cheap..ended up with 3 bottled just over $5 each compared to $29.
Needed no sew fleece blanket kits, bought 2 more, think I'm around 9 or ten now..they make such nice /easy/reasonable gifts..stocking up in that department as well
My house is very French/country, little french cafe set up, didnt Cracker Barrel have the nicest ohhh/ahhh pieces so a few came came home with me...even managed to find a few outfits
All and all great shopping and now I have supplies for another few months.
I am very VERY BAD I have a few here to work on. hit a dead end with motivation and ideas. ordered a fabric for one of them and it came and I did not like it...I am going to pull them out tomorrow and see if I can figure something out.
Susan has mine, as I have hers... and I am sure she hit a similar dead end on motivation with mine...dead end, thats what I call it!! ?? like writers block, is there a quilting term for that??
I pull it out and look at it, and look through some of the stash, draw a blank...look for fabrics to go with on line...dead end...driving me crazy!!! tomorrow or next day a plan WILL be made. and sewing WILL START!!!
Thunder this is the link that tells what size to add next...
Here are the directions.
1st round-start with a 15 1/2"x24 1/2" inch unfinished center-everyone sends theirs to the next person on the list
2nd round -everyone adds a 2"border to the quilt they are sent. Send to next person on list.
3rd round - everyone adds a 3" border and sends to the next person
4th round - everyone adds a 4" border
5th round - everyone adds a 5" border
6th round - everyone adds a 4" border and then sends back to the next person on the list who will actually be the maker of the center (the owner).
No, I have not. I think only two ever came to me. One had a cute dog with bandana print and one I put embroidered butterflies on.
Lisa and I collaborated and we came up with a nice quilt for her MIL. The top is completed and now I am going to add some floral embroidery and butterflies. I have too many in the works right now, really feel the need to finish something. The French braid in greens, the Sentiments by Moda for me, and a couple of leftovers from various block swaps and trades. I have a pile of Christmas items to go to Sheila for quilting. So I am getting things completed. I have tried packing everything out of sight except the one I am working on. It just doesn't work, I tend to get bored easily and pretty soon I have a mess.
and more placemats. I want to add some applique work to this Isolette quilt. Getting tired of the gator fabric, but we want to use it up! The table runner will go into gifts drawer for when the grandkids get homes of their own.
BUSY BUSY BUSY I have never known you not to be busy. Gorgeous fabrics Misttsy. I really like the Sentiments Jelly Roll too. So soft looking and feminine. That would be enough to keep me busy for months!!!!
The Sentiments was a gift from Judy, I admired it while we were shopping at Tuesday Morning. I bought additional fabric, 4.5 yards from Joyce Degroot in Eagle River, Alaska from EBay. Really good price.
I keep starting new projects because I want to practice what I am learning in my sewing, embroidery and computer classes. I will have to add covered cording to my Swing Bag as I so want to use my new foot, (cording and Pearl foot).
