    Syagrus romanzoffiana is the one that came to mind- Pinnate fronds, messy trunk with old sheets of left-over petioles.
    Maybe not, but it is a place to start.

    No pun. Palmbob http://davesgarden.com/members/palmbob/ is the expert when it comes to palms, cycads and the like. I'd gladly defer an id to his eye.

    it is a Queen Palm, Syagrus romanzoffiana, as you all suggested.
