Hi Adina, I've enjoyed your article yet again...
I also wanted to let you know I recently learned that in certain parts of the country, such as Bucovina and Moldova, girls give Martisoare to boys too...
I also wanted to add that some other stories say the red and white cord is relating to the seasons...the white symbolizes the coldness of the soon-to-be-over winter and the red symbolizes the heat of the summer coming up... Kinda like a celebration of the growing season coming up...
Anyway...I absolutely love all the pictures you show in the article...
And I wore the Martisor you sent me last year when I went to work on March 1st...needless to say I had to explain the custom several times throughout the day...not much work got done at my office that day...lol

Monica, thanks for the additional info, very interesting. Another DGer just posted about the Martenitza tradition in Bulgaria...so cool! I didn't know about that although Bulgaria is here, around the corner.Take a look :

This is the martisor I received this year from my DH : a bracelet! Seems more like Bulgarian style, but I like it!
