What is the best shape, size and kind of trellis for a climbing rose? I've heard/read that you get more roses if you encourage lateral rather than vertical growth. What is the best way to do this?

My climbing roses are mostly trained along fences which works very well for me as I have lots of fences. Some people get plenty of horizontal growth using pillars and spiraling the rose around them. Your choice might depend more on the space available and the size rose you want to grow. I think with a little diligence almost any shape could work.
