We call it flowering quince in these here parts. Seen alot around old homesteads.

Is it a wild flower? I never thought of it as wild before.

As perennialyyours said It is one of the plants that is found on old home sites along with lilac, snowball, some hardy iris and old roses. Even up here in NW Washington State. It seems the garden remains to honour the gardener long after the gardener is gone.

pgoggans may want to research and find out if it is 'native to TX" as I think a wildflower project implies that is desired.
