Just moved to the san diego area and I dont know what spiders are scary and what arent. i kinda squished this guy but hopefully you can still tell what it is. He moved fast along the floor then curled up in a ball when i swatted and missed then tried darting off again after playing dead but i got him the next time.

Unfortunately, this specimen appears too badly damaged for a positive i.d. However, it does not appear to be anything dangerous...
